Nice video thank you. However, do you think this could hold a front firing 12inch subwoofer?
@sharedinventions3 жыл бұрын
Large subwoofers generates lot of resonances, that can eventually make the wall-screws loose and the shelf can fall. It is also not a good practice to apply constant vibrations to the walls directly as it might damage the structure of the wall, in the worst scenario the house can even collapse. In other words, it will very likely work, but I cannot recommend to use shelfs like this for speakers other than bookshelf-speakers.

I whole heartedly agreed with your advice. In fact, I've been practicallly reflecting on this idea myself especially for a 12inch subwoofer that's shaking everywhere in the flat already let alone be repositioned on a floating wall shelf. I'm going to keep it on the floor where it is. I appreciate you've promptly replied me. Thank you.

@@rovd4433 What you can also try experimenting with utilizing some concrete blocks (e.g. pavement brick). Put both under and also over (!) the woofer-box. This way the woofer will not try to jump around that much, which will cause that vibration-situation around it will be better (or worse :) )

Another good idea. I'll give that a try to see how it plays out. Thanks

Why didn't you make a pair of the shelves ? Where is the right channel speaker ?
@sharedinventions5 жыл бұрын
:) Yeah, you are right in that I always show one shelf at a time, as they are identical. So, yes, a pair was made. You can spot some moments in the video, where both selves are seen. E.g. 2:20 or 2:33

Nice! Do you think these could hold 20lb speakers?
@sharedinventions5 жыл бұрын
I would say, it is about on the limit. But it certainly mostly depends on the wall and the way you can mount it. I have a brick wall, and I do not trust on it to apply more weight. Also note, that sound vibration might loosen up the joints with time.

@@sharedinventions Thanks for the reply! All of that information is extremely helpful. I've been thinking for months about the best way to get my monitors off of the desk. 😁 I somehow overlooked the vibrations. 🤦♂️

You should never screw into particle board it will breakout use a grip load of glue.

You mean screwing from the edge is prohibited. I agree in that.
