A video outlining the steps on how to properly measure bearing clearance would be very useful! Also, at the step of removing screws for the plate, a punch screwdriver is the tool used to remove it.

You need to go thru without bell mouthing, so you can avoid barreling the center, you want around 45 degrees This is for oil retension to help break the rings in. You can order ten over rings so you can set your own end gap instead of what they send, I normally go four thousand per inch of bore, and those oil control rings can be easily cut to fit, they tend to stay close to the same size, their job is not to seal, but provide oil and cooling, keep on , it will run great!
@oleksandrkozyr24346 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, to remove those philips screws use punch similar size to the head of the screw and punch pretty hard with small hammer. Sometimes takes few tries. They come out easy then with normal screwdriver

Great vid guys seems like your very competent but it’s time to buy some inspection tools. A dial bore gauge and some mics will go a long way!! When dealing with piston rings you must understand how critical it is!!! When dealing with rings .0001 matter and yes I mean tentohousends!! When picking rings for a application is very important to look at the rings specs you need vertical clearance with the ring and the groove to let the combustion pressure get above and behind the ring to seal the bore. .0002-.0003 can make or break you!! I’m forced induction the trend is to go to a super low radial tension ring and let the gasports seal them when there’s positive pressure over the crown of the piston and dry sump and vacuum pumps to seal them when there’s negative pressure. All manufactures with hold there product to a slight different size . This is why in the Performance piston business I have To know what rings are being used before I can engineer and plan the costumers pistons to manufacture . There’s also a ring called a .017dikes or .043dikes top and second ring . They are the go 2 ring in any super or turbo charged high power application only down side is the piston has to be machined to except the ring. Next time you are trying to clean carbon if pistons try baking soda works great for combustion chambers exhaust ports and intakes that see EGR

I can only imagine that the purpose of this video was for people who already know how to rebuild an engine to watch someone else go through a procedure they are already familiar with. No explanation as to what you're doing, what you're spraying the various parts with, what you have checked out on the engine. Many steps of the re-assembly were left out. I assume that if you're going through the trouble of installing parts to the block, you have checked the cylinders and housing for cracks, scratches, out-of-round and taper, and if you have sent the block to a machine shop for anything but we wouldn't know from watching this video.

Man, you guys are my new superheros. I needed to see a step by step as I began my rebuild. 2 machined heads sitting in my trunk and 20 month-old baby screaming at me with no empathy in site.... timing... is essential... no pun intended, but I'll take it. LOL. Wife is at breaking point as am I. I find some video of 2 guys shooting as they build to get it done. Hey, I know the rings were a bummer, but you got me to where I needed to be. I have a neighborhood that is against me, because they see me working on my car tirelessly(literal in both ways) to get this car running and expect me to give up and tow it away. Not happening. find street parking somewhere else. I'll stop now. The public gets the idea. You guys are awesome!

Ok for my Subaru motor heads . Question... I was re assembleing my connecting rods and everything went pretty smooth . My one concern is one of the connecting rod bearings seams alot more stiff (tight) . I took it apart and put it back together a few times checking everything . These is no scoreing and it seams clean . It still moves but it seams to have about 7 pounds of resistance . The other ones just flop arou d with eze .... It's not scrapeing and it moves really well just with more pressure . Is this ok ? . I don't get it . Everything was seated correct as well I looked a few times . I did use a siginificant amount of assembly lube I'm wondering if that can be a part of it ??? !!! I don't want a spun hearing right away I'll be pretty upset !! Picture below is the old spun bearing . I got a donor motor with low miles and used the crank and rods . I also got a kit all new bearings and rings and seals ect :)!
@Dirtcheapdaily7 жыл бұрын
+john murphy you shouldn't have any resistance on the rods. Keep fiddling with it, unbolting the rod and pulling the beating out, until it'll drop and flop by itself

Derrick Quintal Depends on the year. 05 and 06 legacy, and STI all shared the same shortblock. it's all forged internals and it's the same.

Derrick Quintal this is a completely different engine from his other cars, It Is from an STI
@derrickquintal7 жыл бұрын
Afraid not, all USDM Stis had a semi-closed deck engine block. Maybe he is using some sti bits here and there but the block and pistons are not sti ones.
@derrickquintal7 жыл бұрын
rite2beararms The Sti, usdm at least uses an EJ257 engine starting in 04-present with some minor changes throughout the years. the legacy you are talking about uses the EJ255 slightly different. Subaru started using this engine in 06. The only other vehicle the share mostly sti engine components was the 04 Forester xt. for that single year it used many actual ej257 parts.
