Today we're showing you how to fit a Hansshow power tailgate kit to your Tesla Mode 3, something that all pre 2021 owners will be missing, I'm sure. We often see a cheaper ram and spring kit that fail or don't work at all, but we've found the Hannshow equipment to be excellent quality, so we fitted one to our own car. They work from the app, main screen, the regular manual release and retrofit 'close' button supplied with the kit. This particular kit was supplied by evaccessories.... and it was fully paid for. This isn't a paid video.

i've fitted over 40 of these kits, i can do frunk and trunk in about 4 hrs now. You should use micro fibre towels to stop the rear bumper sides scratching the paint also the retainer for the wheelarch screw should be fitted AFTER the bumper has been clipped back in as doing it before scratches the paint off when you push the bumper back in to place which can cause rust issues further down the line. The rear seat does not need force to remove it if you release the catches properly by pushing them sideways.
@Durzel
@Durzel 3 жыл бұрын
Silly question but whereabouts do you put the microfibre towels to protect the paint? It's not immediately obvious from this video.

Thanks for the really great video, It really helped me to install the Hansshow kick sensor on my M3P. Most of the install videos on KZbin show the sensor installed on the back of the tow hitch hatch which the 2021 M3P doesn’t have. Taking the bumper off is a little scary but gives the best solution. Only suggestion I would make is to protect the panel above the bumper with some masking tape as this can get a little scuffed by the bumper flapping about.

I don't own a Model 3 ... but would have thought such a small rear tailgate would be easy to open without it being powered. But a thumbs up for a well documented installation guide.

Hi John S and EV James, I, too, don't own a Tesla Model 3 but would also have thought such a small tailgate doesn't need to be "powered". Evidently, at least 40 other owners disagree. Well done James for an interesting and entertaining installation guide. My Morris 10 had/has in-cabin jacking points to lift the rear axle to facilitate puncture repairs 😜. (And, 1x 6V battery !)

@@mikeyonwin8195 I have a Model 3 and can say, this tailgail is one of the most pain in the ass tailgates I've used. My much larger VW Golf manual tailgail is easier to operate. I'll be installing this kit on mine soon!

And i thought i was clever replacing a leaf key fob battery ! Amazing mate ! The 2021 M3 has power boot lift as standard, i know this as i can use our ReFLEX Demo M3 LR here on Orkney. About to decide on this or an E Nero ! 🤔 Take care matey, Jp

I cannot see many people wanting to tackle that job, James! Well done with it though. 🙂 👍Very neat indeed, and worth the effort. I fail to see why Tesla shouldn't have that as an option. It would make a lot of sense. Even the MG 5 has it as a standard fitting. And the car is almost half the price of a Model 3.

Would I be right in assuming you didn't unscrew any of the bumper clips/screws beneath the car? i.e. you just took off the ones needed to pull it away from the car at the top, for access? Also - is the 12v under the rear seats definitely constant power, rather than switched? All of the install guides show people running the power to the VCLeft or directly to the battery.
@Jamesandkate
@Jamesandkate 3 жыл бұрын
Correct about the bumper. The 12v connection is switched, and should be IMO, it allows the module to be shut down and mitigate parasitic drain on the 12v. It powers up as soon as the key is recognised or the app is opened.
@Durzel
@Durzel 3 жыл бұрын
@@Jamesandkate Interesting, thanks. So you have no issues or activation delay opening the boot when the car is asleep? I’m looking to install both boot and bonnet lift kits. The bonnet lift kit install instructions have it connecting to the 12v battery in the front, but maybe this is better? (especially as you can’t open the bonnet without the car being unlocked)

Nice work but a shame that this didnt used to be an option, I know they were trying to keep the price down but really would this have added that much? I would really like to see Tesla move from selling premium to affordable as soon as possible and drop the trucks and stupid wild ideas and just make an affordable family EV, no screens, no bells or whistles, a battery a motor and some seats, if they dont do it someone else will, sadly fossil car manufacturers are dragging this out as long as they can.

*What a load of Waffle - Amazed not fitted as standard - it is standard on my 2019 Mercedes B200CDi AMG line Full Pack including Virtual Reality Sat Nav at with 81 miles on clock purchased at £23.3k - best MPG 85.6 Over 106 Miles average 53 MPH. Love it - It will take a lot more to convince me to go to a battery car that takes ages to recharge against Diesel Minutes, and if you have ever driven one you will agree I am sure virtually silent with 8 speed box rarely exceed 1500 rpm - Can you 'wave' your foot to activate and have control over height it opens to ?*

That's nice for you. I'd like to compare your running costs with a comparable EV over the life of a vehicle. I also watch The Car Wizard on KZbin. He repairs broken fossils for a living and the enormous costs associated with engine and drivetrain repairs as well as the incredible complexity will inevitably contribute to the end of fossil burning for personal transport.
