Thanks for your explanation! I was wondering exactly same thing about implementing sine waves and kick when I started learning from master Donato and had the same conclusion that was impossible to complete the sine wave even though you slightly lift the pivot's ankle to turn the hip faster. In addition, in my opinion, the instructor is executes the rising block after the stomp of sine wave, which is incorrect as it has to be at same time. Therefore, the sine wave only strengths by moving yourself forward in a fluid motion.

We've used the raising and dropping motion for donkeys years, back in the 80's even! You raise up slightly and drop down into the target. But I've seen some TKD include a slight backwards motion at the completion of the technique - utter madness!

The physics involved in the rising block reaction force example should be done on a moment to moment basis. At the point that the practitioner finishes dropping into their stance and performing the block, there certainly is a reaction force up from the ground as they have essentially "landed from a fall"

Sir, while I completely agree that you cannot perform a sine wave while kicking, might the exception be a front snap kick? Taekwon!
@Tkdtube
@Tkdtube 4 жыл бұрын
Front Snap kick is no exception because your body is still raised at the point of impact. You might have a slight bend in your supporting leg but your body cannot complete the full range of motion.

Front kick won't be exception either. Your body needs to be stabled in the center of gravity to kick, while you are kicking forward. While you kick forward your body good down, so no.

Was it useful to Applying on WT style???? My core TKD is WT and All of Dojang in Thailand are WT for sport not Real Fight. Moreover, there's only one ITF Dojang that's 200KM away from my home in BKK).

It's ridiculous personally I wouldn't. Power starts from the ground as you turn your hip it's projected through your target. Sine wave is bullshit kind like propaganda

A lot of people criticize the concept of sine wave out of utter ignorance and lack of understanding.

Liquidcadmus part of the issue is that sine wave was, and even sometimes today often poorly taught and explained. Typically what happened in the early days of when it was being introduced people were taught 'up down' and then rushed back to their students resulting in 'saw tooth wave' Later it was taught as 'down up down' which resulted in people trying to squat whilst executing movements and then stretch up before dropping. I've seen so many examples where the practitioners are over exaggerating the movements to the point that they are not gaining anything. Often what happens is that the movements are dramatically slowed down to incorporate or accomodate sine wave. You see this a lot in gradings and competitions because the judges want to see sine wave Right there one of the key components of power (speed) is lost. Sine wave cannot produce power in that way. We definitely need to relax for a split second between movements and whilst turning so there should be a very subtle and natural drop. However this shouldn't really be drawn out for too long. At the end of the day you don't want a situation where a fighter can demonstrate that they can hit you 3 times before you can execute your technique.

@@MichaelWilliams-mo1vv I was at the first seminar from park jung tae that introduced the sine wave to Ireland, 35 yrs later it's still a disaster,,taught in a completely unusable way .I'm convinced it was brought in solely to make it look different to karate which choi hated by all accounts.

Its bullshit. power is generated by turning your hip starting from the ground. Not up and down

This video states an opinion. How about putting facts on the table? Do that in MMA and tell me the result... A throw! Do that in front of a ju-jitsu practitionner and tell me the result... A throw! By the way, there is no block in any form of known karate... It is a counter attack. The expression "block", has well as closed fists for that matter, has been created for children karate which is the form generally tought. Ask Okinawa masters... They have never allowed their full techniques to leave the island! The shortest path between two points, is it not a line?

I shouldn't but I will. Explains why I beat all karate practitioners in mixed tournaments. They were not blocking attacks. I also trained in Shotkan Karate fro a couple years and I am positive my Sensi taught us blocks. Then there is this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ2xhJesbctjnMU

Well the point of patterns is not to execute techniques as fast as possible, it's a demonstration. On the other hand no one uses sine wave in sparring because you want to be quick.

Why is a hook so powerful of it does not travel in the shortest distance? If you travel a longer distance, doesn't it give you more time to increase the speed? Patterns are not combat, they have function in training...coordination, control, conditioning the body and as an expression of the art. You have many flaws in your logic and your tone is one of disrespect and lack of willingness to embrace or meet half way.... maybe you study an art that does not teach respect or humility...
