...Yeah. That's one where you simply say 'Well, if you're gonna change it it's not my character anymore. Have fun with that.' Then simply walk away. I mean, yes, you can try and reason with them first, but if they insist and persist in changing the character that you, personally, have created...then you might as well walk off.

Honestly the whole joke about the human bard being a gay Tiefling could have worked, like in game the bard was dressed so extravagant to such a degree with pink and blue and purple silk clothes, streamers, and those medieval times cones/ horns people would wear covered on colorful streamers as well. And when what happened is what happened, the result is that everyone thinks the human bard is a Tiefling and it could either be stupid townspeople or misremembering them. It could have been a good little gag... BUT this DM definitely wasn't going for that and didn't even discuss such a situation with OP beforehand either, and constantly trying to change her character to be what they wanted? All the unwanted gay jokes that I'd say is borderline harassment at best? Yeah no I'd leave immediately it's not the DMs character it's the players because guess what? She MADE it. Another great video Dodge 🙂👍 and those kitties are still as adorable as ever, they deserve all the treats!

Don't forget, it's a Redditor posting this. I'd put down money that the DM and players in that story have a *very* different version.

That story inspired me to make the wanted posters for my party purposefully incorrect as the townspeople aren't too bright and all they have to recount the party is hearsay of their ridiculousness

There was one dude I interviewed for a Cthulhu game, and he was walking in downtown LA through the entire interview. He put me on mute for several minutes to "talk to a guy in a building." He turned out to be a flaky problem player, you can find his story on Doge's subreddit that I posted. That same guy would randomly cold-call me on Discord without asking too. I now require a headset for all game sessions, and are very wary of people who are "out and about" when called.

Yea, it's a shame how rare it is to see well written gay characters in TV. Off the top of my head, Gus and Wally from Mission Hill were two of the best in animation. Their gayness wasn't used to virtue signal, it was just one part of their greater wholes, which was how caring they were to each other and their friends in the cast

I started playing D&D in high school in 1981 back in east Tennessee. Yeah, we had in game problems but man o man...not like today it seems. Also, l am gay and was out back then in high school and openly had a boyfriend (also a gamer). My first DM was a youth pastor and was very cool with us and ran an awesome game. I never had people mess with me for being gay or a geek gamer. I guess l was lucky. The DM in the second story sounds like a tool so yeah, find a new group. I am 57 now and still game every week with my partner. Perhaps age has made me see the 80s with rose-colored glasses...who knows. Happy gaming everyone and l LOVE the cats.

First story: What a lazy group of players. Here’s hoping what happened with OP was a wakeup call for them, and they engaged more with their next DM. Second story: This group doesn’t suck on EVERY conceivable level, but it certainly sucks on a lot of them. I will never understand why OP stuck around as long as she did. I sort of understand staying in a shitty game if your friends are there and you want to keep hanging out with them-though I would still recommend leaving if the game isn’t fun; your friends will understand that if they’re really your friends-but this game was just a bunch of randos OP met on Discord! She had no connection with them! It would have been so easy to just leave and write them off as a bunch of strangers she didn’t click with. At least it was a learning experience, I guess. Third story: I get that this wasn’t meant to be a serious game, but come on! A good counterargument for: “But the website lets me do it!” would be something along the lines of: “The website is made to accommodate all styles of play. The character you made might be okay in a very high-powered campaign, but it doesn’t fit the one we’re playing.” On that note, I am a little jealous of OP. I wish my little sister would let me run a game for her. I think she’d really like it, but she’s gotten it into her head that playing D&D would somehow turn her into a clone of me.

The amount of times I and my friends have taken the Micky out of eachother is beyond count. It takes time to learn the tells that it's just a playful joke or shenanigan, especially online. Granted most of our insults are playground level in nature, calling eachother smelly and such due to the nature of the online games we play (survival Sims ironically). You dare not make a typo in our company for we shall point it out and laugh (especially if you're a server admin).

I agree, bards are so much fun! We had a running gag in my old group that every now and then an NPC would try to shoot their shot with the bard (my character), who was either completely oblivious to the flirting or would get so flustered he'd run away from the task at hand. One time he accidentally flirted with a merchant, falling back on his old habits as an ex con artist, and he was so mortified when the party pointed it out that it took every ounce of his willpower not to set something on fire and run away.

That second story is an example of the importance of gatekeeping. Looking at her complaints, she seems like a chore, and I'm honestly surprised they didn't give her the boot with the whiny cleric's player. The problem is, they were treating her like one of the guys when they should've been treating her like an invader. The third story, the dad understood the assignment much quicker than his daughter did.
