It's possible that the group didn't actually know what "incel" means. From OPs description, the group sounds VERY junior high- "Rent A Girlfriend" is an anime that only appeals to people with a slim knowledge of both relationships and harem anime, and saying something is "for little kids" because you don't like it (or are too "cool" and "mature" to like it) is also a very 13-year-old thing to do- nobody else is so overtly obsessed with looking like an adult. Probably they just heard somebody using the term "incel", and assumed it was some generic insult for people who were losers.

I'd like to throat punch the DM who claimed wind doesn't affect bullets. There's an account of a sniper having to adjust his crosshairs to the extreme in order to land an accurate shot as he was operating in a sand storm. I'm going to try and find the article. I keep finding links about Insurgency Sandstorm but found a relevant article about a Canadian sniper shooting a terrorist two miles out. Precision fire like that requires calculations for windage, elevation, and other factors that my monke brain can't comprehend. Tl;Dr, bullets don't shoot straight.

Even professional real world snipers try to avoid taking their shots during inclement weather due to the unpredictability of the environment. Hell, when i was still in the service, if it was too windy, we didn't go to the range because the high winds made it too hazardous to predict how the bullets would ricochet even on an open range (now if it was rainy, cold and muddy we had to stay out there until 2300 lol). No bullet, no matter the caliber or speed is unaffected by wind. So coward has no idea how firearms work first of all. And I don't think he would have been any better as a player if his DM skills were any predictor of the type of ttrpg gamer he was. If I had to guess, he is likely a power gamer, rules bender lawyer, dice fudger, and will likely be they type of player to bog down a session arguing a ruling or on obscure lore for hours on end. But that's my prediction

Mine was this; I asked what we should roll to make our characters, and the DM replies "you haven't even written your backstory yet", so I said "oh I know, but my backstories are typically different depending on the stats I roll", the DM says "wow, I'm immediately getting all kinds of serious red flags from you, clearly you only care about power-gaming and combat, and not the story or campaign setting at all", I was really confused so I tried to explain further, saying "no I do, but typically a character's backstory would be different depending on ability scores, so like if I rolled super super well, in my backstory my character would have had to work for his stats, so every day he'd wake up to a workout, then training, then revision, before off to spend time with a great many friends at the tavern when the sun starts to set, but if I roll really really low, that might reflect a younger more naive character who hasn't yet had to face any real hardship, maybe a spoiled noble or lazy merchant, or perhaps even afflicted with some kind of disease or curse that made him so weak, you know?" the DM then ghosted me for four days, then showed up saying she doesn't allow power gamers in her games, and booted me from the server.

First Story: I think OP did the right thing all around. First time a warning. We all do games and other stuff on our phones and computers ( i was once in a group of 20 players, yes that was insane never again, and it took so long to get anything done that I ended up playing Skyrim between attacks or when I could pipe up to interact with NPC's or traps). If I was in the group, I would have told him that that was not good what he was watching and could he not do that here. The OP trying to be his friend and opening up to him was also a good move. The "Lying DM story" may not have been so black and white tbh lmao. OP outs himself as a rules lawyer that hard challenges DM rulings, and actually admits to cutting off his friend while she talks. Ngl its not entirely impossible that they did complain to the DM and then told OP they didn't, in order to play both sides. Side note: I know we may hate it, but sometimes the railroad must rear its ugly head, because a DM can never be fully prepared for the unhinged maniacs that make up DnD's vast playerbase :D

I love that rather than taking at face value (when there's no reason to think otherwise) that OP's friend didn't break down crying and that Coward is simply a liar, you decide to pull out of thin air a scenario where she's also a scheming liar.

Rent a girlfriend is trash! I'm glad I dropped that show after 3 episodes. It's not worth watching, especially how pathetic the main character is. The fact that they recommend that show is in of itself a red flag!

"Rent a girlfriend" is an interesting romantic anime, that takes a somewhat realistic romantic with a somewhat absurd premise. Its about a heartbroken college student meets another college age girl, from an app of the same name. High jenkins ensure, and find out both their grandmothers find out they are "dating," and would be so heartbroken if the split up. But it keeps going as a slow building romance, and is very entertaining to watch. Side Note: My wife also thinks its a weird gringe title. There are other animes out there was some crazy titles that people might think is cringe from the title alone, the ones that come to mind are "Is it wrong to up girls in a dungeon?", "I Don't Want to Get Hurt, So I'll Max Out My Defense", "WorldEnd: What Do You Do At The End Of The World? Are You Busy? Will You Save Us?", and "Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo"

3rd one: I am getting hyper aggressive vibes from op in that one. I do not really blame the gm if he did not want to get into a screaming match with someone they booted for being argumentative and steam rolling another player. If they felt they could talk it out, they would not have booted them in the first place so why waste your time as it does not seem like they are friends otherwise? OP badgering the gm till they got on the voice call then immediately jumping to accusations I see as more harassment on op's part. Regardless of the nature of the dispute, that seems like it was just an attempt to "make the coward pay." I hate horror stories that are just people slandering people for a past dispute.

@@TigerW0lf kind of a catch 22 is that you can be right and still be overly antagonistic here. For example, burning someone's house down because they cut you off in traffic still makes you the bad guy in the situation, even if you got a legit complaint to start with. My point is op harassed the gm in this story with several attempts to make contact and then immediately started accusing them when they finally agree to talk things out. Given how aggressive op comes off in their own telling and the fact they are badgering them to get on a voice call, I am getting the impression the "arguements" were shouting matches and why would anyone stick around for that abuse? Also, I have some doubt OP is supported because everyone thinks they are right as much as no one wants them to bother them. The gm said the one player was in tears with the way op treated her and op did not contact the player who he thought at the time that he had offended. He "found out later" that it was a lie when she contacted op to check on him, according to op, so op thought he made his friends cry with the way they had treated them and did not care enough to reach out to them. That gives me the impression that happens a lot if your response to your friend crying is, "meh, so how do i lure the dm that kicked me out of a game for bullying my friend till she cried onto a phone call to argue about kicking me out." I am getting a contradiction here too in the story. Why get upset at getting kicked from a game you hated? Why are the others still hanging out with the dm if they all sided with op absolutely? Why would the dm reach out to op after cutting contact with them out of the blue if they are too afraid to face them? This has a seriotypical "revenge fantasy" for a narcissistic person feel to it. The fantasy is always centered around everyone abandoning the person that wronged the narcissist and having the offender be forced to beg for forgiveness then being denied. It gives it a, "and then they all stood up and clapped," quality to the story. Might have happened just as they said, but not sure the ending is not imbelished a bit.

@@rynowatcher the possibility is there I will admit, but without evidence or a testimony stating otherwise, all of it is conjecture at best. I'm willing to give the op the benefit of the doubt as I have met people who were just as cowardly and uncompromising. Plus it's kinda unlikely that the fellow will defend himself as according to the only context we have, he would turn tail the moment he was confronted. Whether or not the op is innocent of fault is of little concern to me because it sounds like the DM knew that he would be challenged by someone whenever he was objectively wrong and even when left open to interpretation he would rather work with those who don't question him rather than take criticism

My point is less that the dm had a point in the original argument and more op is acting like a jerk in response for being booted from a game they supposedly did not like. I do not see the dm as cowardly; they did not want to get into a shouting match for someone they clearly intended to cut contact with. The dm does not owe them a debate and why would they waste their time? The dm already decided to boot them. There is nothing courageous about seeking out pointless conflict.

First off, if someone's lying to you and trying to make it seem as though you were making a mutual friend upset, when it all ended up being personal beef over a petty dispute that was ultimately done to perpetuate a railroad, you're well within your right to get into their face and demand answers, especially when the DM told OP that the reason he was getting kicked was because he apparently made someone cry, which turned out to just be an excuse to make himself look good and OP feel bad at the same time. Secondly, Coward was the one who told OP to contact him when he was ready to talk. If he left OP on read for four days, only to immediately drop the call once OP asked why he lied to him, then it only shows that the GM knew what he did was wrong and that he didn't have a good answer to OP's question "why did you lie to me?" in the first place. OP not reaching out to his friend first is not the smoking gun you think it is, it's fairly normal to give someone space after you believe that you made them upset, especially to the point of tears. Conversely, Blizzard reaching out to OP because Coward told them that OP had to drop due to family issues is, again, a normal thing for people to do if they think that their friend needs a shoulder to lean on due to going through some crap. If Coward didn't lie to both parties by telling them different stories, maybe OP would've reached out sooner and maybe the other friend wouldn't have reached out at all, that's the problem with judging someone's behavior based on a lie, different variables yield vastly different outcomes. Finally, it's not the fact that Coward dropped OP from the game that pissed him off, it's the way he was dropped . Coward went about it in the most roundabout way possible in order to avoid any direct confrontation and then lied to OP by saying he was dropped because of "scheduling issues" or "to protect the player(s)" when in actuality, it was only because OP would call him on his crap and he needed a reason to get rid of him. Nobody likes to hang out with a compulsive liar, especially one who lies about stuff the way Coward did. Even if it was embellished, I've seen people get ejected from groups for less than what Coward did.
