About the Nosferatu story... it's pretty obvious that the Storyteller (GM, for the non-White Wolf players) was planning on making OP's life hell. For those who don't know, the Nosferatu are a cursed clan - not on the same level as Gargoyles, but still cursed. A Nosferatu is UGLY with a capital ugh, and can't shapeshift in any way (even a Mage's powers, otherwise literally able to rewrite reality, don't work on a Nosferatu's looks) and his face literally sends people screaming in panic. Seriously, they're borderline terrifying, so much that in the Vampire videogame (yes, it exists) they're forced to feed on RATS or sneak on their victims, because they can't approach anyone without causing mass hysteria. Suffice to say, their social life outside of the Vampire courts is a disaster, and even within the courts it's pretty much "court jester" level. So, when OP actually showed enthusiasm at the idea of playing a Nosferatu he pulled the plug - it's not fun to mess with someone who doesn't suffer because of it. Yes, I had to deal with this kind of GMs more than once, and I think it shows.
@byronsmothers8064 Жыл бұрын
Sounds like OP's time playing would be either staying sideline to avoid panic, or getting punished for trying to do anything. Which is to say: they'd be there for 2 sessions at best, and kicked for either being a problem or uninvolved.
@jamestown8398 Жыл бұрын
"Suffice to say, their social life outside of the Vampire courts is a disaster" If there's a Nosferatu Warren in the city, then that will usually be the main source of support and connections for the vampire. One benefit of this clan is that its members stick together with a strong cohesion.
@unluckyone1655 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I got the feeling that OP was going to be a patsy that gets picked on by ST and the rest of the group to either scare OP from gaming for good (classic gatekeeper behavior) along with being sidelined then booted. I hope OP finds a group that welcome them at some point

People really need to relearn the concept of shame. Like with that Dungeon Master voice story, if that guy just kept to himself and didn't proudly declare how he was polishing his flagpole to the DM's voice, people wouldn't think he's an absolute creep. I'm not saying we should shame everything, but just a little bit of shame wouldn't hurt, right?

Why did OP say they handled the situation immaturely? After all, when they messaged him with their concerns, and he ignored them. They could have just gotten rid of him at that moment. The first GM sounds like he was just a jerk. I wouldn't say "Nosferatu only" is really a red flag. Nos in particular have some very specific factors that I would say make it justifiable to restrict players to only Nosferatu for certain games. To be fair, I have only played VtR, not VtM (2nd edition versus 1st edition) so Nos in VtM may have been different, but in VtR Nos are almost always disfigured and take social penalties, so it's more difficult for them to interact with people especially any humans. They also sometimes have underground secret cities where usually only Nos are allowed, so I could see it being very reasonable to restrict the PCs to only playing Nosferatu if the GM wants to run a game set entirely in a necropolis, for instance.
@alarkhar Жыл бұрын
In Masquerade it was the same - a Nosferatu at his best looked like someone who survived a thirty car pileup... barely. And then ended in a tiger cage face first. @Psycopathicus Жыл бұрын
The 'talk to the bag' concept COULD have worked, I think, if the guy had played it like Gollum - in other words, like he was talking, apparently to himself by a different name, about what was going on, not just about something irrelevant. Like, the players approach and he's like 'why look, Mr. Pixie-Face! It's a party of adventurers, yes it is! Do they know the way to town, I wonder? Shall I tell them, Mr. Pixie-Face; what do you think?' That would have given them an opening to say something like 'yes we do know the way', or 'no we don't', or whatever, and it could have gone from there. But, 20-20 hindsight, I guess.

And if they try to insult me by talking sloth slow, I will give them the perfect way to understand what speed they should speak at by flipping them off so long as they are talking too slow or too fast. Definitely not a good solution, since walking out will save you any further pain, assuming the D.M. is simply being petty.

They did pick up on someone was helping them, but being really sneaky about it. Eventually i got caught. All part of my plan though. Barbarian wants to interrogate me, but Cleric notices the pretty gnarly throat scar, and points out its pointless, I can't speak. React Quickly Story. I understand that some players do take far too long in combat to make up their minds on what to do. But this was just a blatant attempt to Nerf characters by the DM. If you are a DM and want or need to make combat move a little faster there are other ways. A simple way is to get a few of those 1 or 2 minute hourglasses or timers. At the start of a player's turn they turn over or start their timer (hourglass) and they have that long to say what they are doing or loose their turn. This method helps encourage players that they are on the clock and to have some kind of a plan already whenever possible.

The first story is confusing. What's a red flag? The DM setting up some rules and asking one thing of the player? A bigger red flag to me is a player wanting to play the edgelord or a furry and ignoring the one request the DM has (don't tell the party until I talk it over with them).

And then op doesn't talk to a friend who didn't even do anything for a MONTH because they didn't get to play a game? Yeah no, op is giving so many red flags there's probably a reason the DM didn't want him in.

edgelord you mine like the rest of the game it's vampire they are all some form of edgelord "furry" ok he was talking about wod werewolves aka the tough bruiser type character that op wanted to play

Why is it a problem for the player to tell his friend group that he is gonna be joining or not? Sounds like a sad excuse to gaslight and manipulate OP

@@MajorMasonGaming I think the problem is he told the group he was playing a nosferatu (aka the most reclosable clan for their striking aperients) which is kind of really stupid

Vampire the Masquerade is basically the underworld movies as ttrpg and the gangrel clan are werewolf vampires.
