Tbh you could take any of the construct races and just theme them as a Scarecrow type race. Like a group of Gnomes made you for the purposes of a scarecrow that actually walks around and tends to the fields to keep birds and pests out. You can wear armor as they designed this construct as a more endo-skeleton, so your alchemical/magic/ steampunk bits are the skeleton. You've been given a basic set of commoner clothes and stuff with hay or cotton maybe sacks of leaves or pebbles? Because it wasn't built for war or battle your endo-skeleton is weaker so you need padding/stuffing to protect yourself. Which if you were a weird forgotten agricultural service project and using the baseline construct races with armor, you can say you start out with maybe an old hand-me-down armor or junk you found on a battlefield/somewhere. You can and should totally tweak races around to make them fit an idea when the rest of it is basically perfect for said idea. As it could be cool to HAVE to have this weakness to work around because youre just a robotic skeleton who needs to wear clothes and armor with stuffing to give you more hp or ac even. It may take a bit of DM assistance but a good one would probably let you do it especially if it works the same as the given race and flavor swapped. Or as a tweaked race that kinda has a detriment because you're like a unique Construct "variant" race of Auto-Gnome, Warforged, or Glitchling. I had never heard of Glitchling before though and they seem amazing, I love quirky, weird races even more so if they're short...
@brittnyvancamp7853 ай бұрын
Good news! In "The Crooked Moon" campaign setting that's being built on kickstart they show a race of pumpkin headed scarecrow-ish race called "Harvest born" Should be something right up the alley you're looking for. :)
@raptorsuedemondrake41432 ай бұрын
the reborn race from ravenloft mentioned that one option for the race is that you're stuffed with straw. you might be able to use that idea for some sort of "awakened scarecrow" concept where you're the monstrous version of a scarecrow but gained independence from your creator.

Fun thing about Grugach elfs is also the fact they are the only race ever in 5e to not start with language proficiency in common. A language barrier like that could be fun to roleplay, maybe communicate using sign language with the party and such.
@Eaglefellow13 ай бұрын
I believe Grung also do not start with Common. My group played the One Grung Above module and on our next next campaign I joined as a Grung Mercy Monk with the archeologist background to pick up Common. When I was spoken to by the others I would tilt my head and act like I didn’t understand them. When we were fourth level and interrogating a hobgoblin they were getting nowhere. Suddenly I asked the prisoner a question in erudite Common like a prissy butler.

I had an Orc Scribe Wizard originally planned as a joke character who got killed by a Kenku and a flock of giant ravens. He came back with his vengeance being against all birds, which is broken for death purposes but hilarious in that he violently attacks all birds and bird-like creatures on sight with seething hatred. He was eventually revived when we saved Ythryn and joined the archmages there to study, his dream come true as a scribe wizard.

Elves are a product of their time. Races that were made to me minimal. If they were made in todays meta, I bet they would naturally get certain spells as a race feature and/or the race-locked feats like elven accuracy and fey teleportation. Without having to take special classes or feats.
@remyb94957 күн бұрын
There are multiple priest (druid) spells all the way back in 2nd edition that turn leafs/sticks/shafts of wheat into different weapons. As a wood elf, being able to use all the parts of a tree to hunt with (Although not overly magical seeming) could have been a nice little flair that's not overpowered. Throwing leafs like throwing daggers could be useful to any class for Rp/story flow but their damage is low enough that in a fight it's a last resort/basically useless. 1d4 flat if I'm not mistaken.

How do you explain them getting a new piece of gear that was… conspicuously designed for… a crab person? I can’t wrap my head around how to comprehend a player being an Isetsu. By the way, I loved the satirical ad for Americans. We do, in fact, love machine-gunning “Freedom” into the sides of burger joints. I have never had the chance to play a DnD campaign, but now I would love to play a Glitchling that's a little .. broken. He likes to collect things.. but because he's broken, he likes to collect whatever is at hand. So he's a kleptomaniac, as was said in the video. He also has a own bag of holding. This, like him, is also broken; so whatever goes into it, can never be removed. He constantly struggles against his desire to steal things in reach (a check against a dice roll, similar to VLDL's Baradun's wild surge check). If he fails against the struggle, he tries to steal the object. If he succeeds he puts said object into his broken bag of holding. This happens even if the object belongs to a friend, or ally, or is needed to save the world. The struggle is real.

My very first player character was a viashino assassin, our DM allowed me to add the "Finesse" tag to the tail attack and I used the character like a xenomorph, sneaking into buildings and assassinating people one at a time.

I would like to see you talk about races from older editions that should be brought back. Like who even remembers the Bariaur?

I would love to see some cover for all the Plane shift material, There are playable Nagas and (basically harpys) and like... actual straight up vampires.
