When it came to the misogyny question, I wished they had talked a bit more about the role of appearance. Especially in streaming, being conventionally attractive seems to play a much larger role for women than for men in determining the size of their following. I think there was some confusion about a couple of the questions. Like 'Gaming culture is misogynistic' could've been easily misunderstood as it asking 'Are video games misogynistic'. Another example, 'Competitive gaming is just as demanding as a physical sport' seemed like it was easily read as 'Competitive gaming is just as *physically* demanding as a physical sport'. In the moment with a countdown going on it can be confused and I'm not sure how much clarification they got before moving. Being a chess grandmaster could be as demanding as being a pro footballer, but obviously not physically.
@JoelPlay3 жыл бұрын
Damn put well.
@kendobc3 жыл бұрын
Nah, they said "gaming culture" not "video games". "gaming culture" is the society/culture of gaming not the actual games themselves. I think it was pretty clear for that one. Also, these are heavily edited so I am sure that there are clarifications being done on questions when needed. And really, you can tell from some answers when the person didn't seem to understand the question itself.
@notgaphafn46142 жыл бұрын
yes I thought this too, I'm pretty sure video games were more mentally demanding and required more time to actually get somewhere with them. And especially the fact that video games can be detrimental to your mental health which snowballs into physical health, etc.

@@mia-paris5533 I'm not sure, I mean the whole gaming community like she said isn't Anti Women. It's more so younger kids who hear some of the older people. I've been starting to play games recently, basically warzone rn. I haven't encountered anyone being rude to me when I have my mic on but it could also just be I haven't encountered rude people in the game. the most I've ever heard was "oh" when they heard my voice and another time where some little kid said I was bad (I didn't have my mic on so that was just toxic in general.) Most people just care about playing the game and when it's competitive they get mad. I'm not gonna lie I've gotten mad too while playing. The girl seems like she just decides to not take it to heart and ignores it which is reasonable. Also going back to it she thought of the question as if they were asking if the "Gaming Community is anti-women"

Nah I think she's right. Both men and women get insults based on their gender. With men it's just more sophisticated because the other person telling you that insult is also a man. So instead they will call you "weak", "loser", "virgin" and other things that sort of mean you fail at traditional masculinity while with women they simply go "lol wahmen" and that's it. At the end, no matter your gender, your skill is the only thing that matters.

Gaming itself isn't misogynistic, but the *culture* is.
@Jordan648524 жыл бұрын
Alexis video games started as a thing for the whole family(targeted anyone regardless of age or sex) but after the video game crash of 1983, video games as an industry died out. Later Nintendo revived the industry by rebranding video games into toys and they put the NES in the boy section since Nintendo thought it would be the more profitable section. I like the comment about how it’s not the 90s anymore cause girl gamers were legit unheard of.
