I know people who have overdone protein and keto desserts in their eating window and in turn have gained a lot of weight, even though they were doing intermittent fasting as well. Excess protein turns into sugar and their carb count quickly adds up resulting in insulin levels that remain higher for longer, that means being in a fat-storage state.

Hi from Alicante in the south of Spain.. I bought your book (Kindle version) yesterday and just made your Caesar salad dressing for my big bowl of salad. It’s SOooo GOOD! Looking forward to restarting my weight loss with a different schedule of IF as I have plateaued now for a few months whilst doing 16:8 with lunch and dinner. Been 16/8 fasting for over 6 months, normally have OMAD at weekends, hardly feel hunger, energy is good, but can overeat at dinner, which may have caused inconsistent in the results. Now I have to count calories to avoid overeat, see what happens. Thanks for your video (from a new subscriber)!

Weirdness -- Since I've slipped out of peri- into menopause, I've found my weight is less difficult to maintain (I weigh less -- although eating the same ). Normal? I've lost just a few pounds since becoming menopausal, but I was already below my goal weight.

Received your book today on my kindle Enjoying every single page so far. Thank you for making it so simple. I am 77 years old and have been doing intermittent fasting for 4 years. I fast every single day for 16 hours or more and only start eating at 11.30 am - stopping eating at 17.30 or latest 19.30 Do not go to bed until 3 hours have passed from my last meal. Thank you Dr. Becky. I have you to thank for my weight loss and change in eating behaviour. Down at least two pant sizes. I never look at carbs the same way again. The trick is, to engage my liver for 'sugars' needed, not food carbs.

One of the parts of low carb/IF that I like the most is that I don't have to worry about calories. Eat the right foods, don't eat very often, those are the only two variables. Granted, by only eating for a 1 to 1.5 hour window, that naturally limits the amount of calories I can eat, but if I haven't eaten for 23 hours I can get pretty darn close to a full days food in an hour. I never would have believed until I tried it, but I love the cycle of fasting and feasting. I like it much better than eating regularly. And considering I've lost all my bodyfat and it stays off naturally, I think my body agrees with me.

Thank you for your videos Dr. Becky! I've been following them for a while, and have finally purchased a copy of your book for more guidance. My question is this...what to do when you reach your weight loss goal? Is there a need to shift anything to maintain versus lose, or does the body naturally do this? I am female, 50, short with a small frame and my goal is to drop about 20 pounds. Thanks again.

Hi Lyla, after weight is lost, adding a few calories will help with maintenance. It is best to stick with whole, unprocessed foods.

Congratulations for your book Dr I have question plz My situation is hard to eat much Lately I was in low calories and my body stopped losing weight When I know the right calories it starts to lose weight, but I feel I have to force my self to eat , so in fasting if I eat less than my BMR what my body need to burn, Is my body still burning fat and I will lose weight?

I have been doing 16-8 IF (6 pm to 10 am) since August, I haven't paid attention to my nutrition, meaning pretty much eat anything and everything during the feeding window. I haven’t lost ONE SINGLE pound 😔😫 I need to pay more attention to my food

I can relate. 6wks IF, with lower carb and high good fat for me but eating healthy and still barely a budge. I just restarted counting macros/calories on myfitnesspal to see if it'll turn the tide. Good luck.

I do alternate fasting and eat anything and as much as I like during my eating day. I’ve lost 9 kg this way. I eat what I love, every second day. The best “diet” ever.

Please help me Dr Gillaspy. I've come off all refined sugars trying to get rid of chronic inflammation. I've noticed some good signs especially in my back, face and hands. How long can it take before it all goes or at least get very good results Thanks from the UK.

Another great video. With my experience's with IF, I found that if I ate my main meal first around 12 noon, it gave me enough energy for the rest of the day, didn't have to snack. Dinner was a lighter meal a salad. I felt better not weighted down during the evening. Does it matter when to have your main meal when it comes to IF for optimal results or is it personal preference depending on your lifestyle, like active or sedentary?

Hi Joe, the quick answer is that ending your eating for the day earlier rather than later is most advantageous.

I remember when I first tried intermittent fasting for benefits other than losing weight, I ate whatever I wanted during my 6 hour time window. What's interesting is I even snacked between my 2 meals. I ended up eventually losing 20 pounds or more after a few months, which really surprised me since I wasn't even trying to lose weight. I was actually skeptical, but didn't care since I was doing it for other benefits anyway. I didn't count a single calorie. It's definitely possible I just accidentally consumed less calories than my daily requirement, but I also did eat quite a bit during my meals, like I always do. I eventually did put the weight back on though sadly, even while I was still intermittently fasting.

I'm going to look for the answers in your book also, but there is a lack of specific information (across all the keto/if channels I watch) about: 1. hair loss - is it caused by lack of certain vitamins or too few calories? 2. how/when to take certain vitamins (with food only? during fasting? if lack of vitamins cause hair loss what to do during longer fasts? I've tried taking multi on empty stomach in the morning and am nauseous for an hour. are liquid vitamins in water better? I know collagen is good, but it breaks a fast also, so when do I get that into my diet? I love your channel and your info, I know these are very specific questions but honestly not readily found info (for me anyway).

I would suggest talking with a naturopathic DR to get your hormones checked. I am working with an ND while doing this and am currently trying to balance my progesterone and increase my iron, vitamin D and B. We are also working on my gut health because I am not producing serotonin or dopamine which leads to my cravings for sugar and junk food! I couldn’t do it all through KZbin and books alone.

It all matters for me. Calories, fat and carbs have all mattered even when also using IF. I have a lot of weight to lose.

So I am hung up at 230 lbs. I am having to take medication and have problems taking meds without food too. I am eating about 12 green olives at night before bed and 12 more in the morning. I have no problems in fasting 23 hours. Are these olives disrupting my Fast?

Can you eat too few calories? I'm getting conflicting info. I'm absolutely full with my 2 meals, and I don't get hungry until 16-18 hours later. I eat low carb (20-30 total grams per day), under 75 grams of fat, and try and eat about 90 grams of protein but oftentimes it's closer to 65. Meat, certain veggies, a few berries per week, no sugar, no bread...but I struggle to get more than 1,000 calories in per day! Is that why I'm only losing .5-1 pound a week? Or is it related to my diabetes (controlled by diet) and I just have to be thankful for the small losses? I'm 191 pounds and have 50 more to go and in my 40s. Thank you!

Low carb diets are not possible for vegetarians. Beans are quite high in carbs. The best diet for me is a balanced one where I eat only when truly hungry. I always try drinking a glass of water if my mouth says I want food and it’s not meal time. If I’m still hungry after that, I’ll have a nutritious snack such as a piece of fruit or a handful of nuts or seeds. Not only that, but, at meal time, I need to wait about 20 minutes for my stomach to tell me I’m full, so I try to eat slowly and no second helpings until after 20 min. if at all. Oh yes, and I eat very few refined or processed foods and thus avoid sugar and excess salt.

Low carb' diets are possible for vegetarians, though you may not have so much choice. Eggs, cheese, yogurt, nuts, seeds, tofu, quorn, mushrooms & yes some chickpeas & beans, though you may need to watch your portions of the last.

I have been trying the 20/4 IT for the last three weeks and I have a very difficult time eating more than 1000 calories; in fact, I am quite full before that. Is it ok if I'm not hungry enough to stuff my face?

Dr. Becky, I could be a study in contradiction. I am 59, following a 6 hour eating window religiously and also absolutely no sugars or processed foods for more than a year, have a one hour yoga routine and walk for 5km every day, but I don’t count calories. Absolutely no weight loss. My height is 5ft10 & I weigh 100kgs.

Have you had your hormones checked by your doctor? I was experiencing the same bit for me it is my thyroid, hashimotos disease is the culprit for me.

@@MarieClaireMonterey for me weight loss is stalled even with 16/8 fasting, low carb diet and calorie reduction. I am also in my 40's. My TSH is 10.8 and thyroid antibodies are through the roof. If you can have your thyroid / hormone levels checked. Good luck🙂

..aa much as I want, if not sugar, not pastries, not donuts, not like that, and no processed food. The first ones should be obvious. The last one mentioned is not so obvious, and includes all commercially processed food in the grocery store. I can have all the simple whole foods I put together, simply prepared, and intermittant fasting keeps my weight regulated naturally. This keeps my weight in the good zone for me. I have your book, highly recommended!
