Hi Artistic Friends... I'm so happy to be able to upload this lesson of a painting I created just before Hurricane Ian hit. We have some damage, but nothing like when we went through Hurricane Irma in 2017. We are thankful and blessed to be alive! I still don't have wifi, but hopefully that will be restored soon. I hope you learn lots in this lesson, and I'd love to hear from you so please leave a comment. Blessings and Happy Painting!

that is such a beautiful still, the strawberries are so velvety. I see some opal translucent effect in the cup. Love it.

Hi Susan, I'm so glad you and your family are doing well after Ian. My daughter and sister both made out fine no damage, thankfully. What a beautiful painting. I may try curtain sections of this to learn from. Thank you for sharing your talent ❤️

I learn so MUCH from your video's...I appreciate your intimate conversations with us..how LUCKY we all are. I'm getting braver and braver to use my soft pastels...I do feel like you are in my mind when you are talking because at each step you are answering the questions that form in my mid as your painting... Thank you Thank you Thank you!!

Lost edges? I don’t know how to paint ANY edges! Thank you, Susan! You’re amazing! And so soon after Ian!

This is a beautiful painting Susan ❤. You have a great deal of patience to produce such a wonderful painting, and commitment to produce and present this video to us. Thank you 🙏

Bless you Julie for noticing that. Yes, patience is a virtue for this kind of work.... especially the video production. It actually takes longer than the painting. ;)

Susan, did you freehand the photo onto your pastel paper, or use a projector?
@monetcafe2 жыл бұрын
I didn't use a projector, but method of tracing the back of the ref image with a stick of charcoal, and then flipping it over on my painting surface and using a straight edge to burnish the charcoal to leave a ghost image. I prefer to freehand sketch, but sometimes if I'm in a crunch for time I'll use this method. To trace the back of the photo, you can put it up to a bright window. Hope that helps!

Great video. Congrats for making it through Ian. I became disabled and wanted to try art, but had no idea where to begin. I have studied sketching, drawing, colored pencils, watercolor, acrylics (I was on that awhile) - now I’m on pastels. So many different ones! Your videos help me learn this fascinating world I would never have access to otherwise. ❤

Wow Donna… You’re exactly the kind of person I’m talking about when I so often mentioned in my videos that there are people in the world who wouldn’t have any other means to learn to paint except for free lessons on KZbin. I’m so thankful that my videos are helpful for you and people like you give me the inspiration to keep pressing on and keeping them coming!

Thank you for your using Senelier’s Pastel Card! So often it’s Pastelmat or UArt. So I really appreciate this video of yours. Maybe in the future you can also demonstrate Colourfix Smooth, which is also rarely used on KZbin videos lessons.
@monetcafe2 жыл бұрын
I actually have some colorfix smooth paper and I’m considering doing a demo using PanPastels which actually work better on a smooth surface. Thanks for the reminder!

I have a question on painting bouquets. Where do you start, the greenery or the flowers? Any other tips for bouquets I would be so grateful.

I'm giggling... I mean I really liked your video, yet, I know you were finished (with this painting) like before the end of the video ... and you're so cutely in love with the materials you're using... you just keep going (it's something I sometimes do, so I'm not actually laughing AT you). It's great to be embracing to joy, Susan! May you remain blessed.
@monetcafe2 жыл бұрын
Ha ha.... you totally nailed it. I so often look back at my videos and realize the painting was done, but I just keep going. LOL. I'm hoping to get better at that, but it's just so fun to keep painting ;). Blessings !!
@treelinktree2 жыл бұрын
@@monetcafe just an idea, but MAYBE you could do a segment on that, or perhaps you've already done a video on "how do ya know when you're finished"...just a thought, Susan

how the photographically correct image transfer happned before you started painting?
@JLPrice-kc2uy2 жыл бұрын
Painting is easy..? Where was I when we had that meeting...' Sometimes a painting will take control; testing the temperament of the artist' I've heard it said, "Who set a rule that you must mount a horse on it's left side." Well, my thoughts hasn't changed; if I'm not familiar with that horse, I will approach the animal on it's left, because you never know about it's temperament. So I guess you're right, learn the rules. 💜
@monetcafe2 жыл бұрын
Ha ha… there are definitely some rules that need to be followed! I like the quote though that says “learn the rules so that you can break them“.

Why do u have to do an underpainting?
@monetcafe Жыл бұрын
You don't have to, but I find an underpainting helps to set a mood, establish values, and often it's like a roadmap for the beginnings of a painting.
