"Tutors can correct mistakes" is the best benefit to study with tutors I think!👍 I recommand you to study tutors if you have any spare time and money! Definitely studying yourself is good enough though! 😊 Because there are tones of studying ways in the world.

That's not quite what I mean. I mean when Koreans who don't know how to teach ignore any explanation and just say "It sounds more natural like this." TTMIK explains concepts well. But when I was first learning Korean, Koreans would tell me to ask them anytime I had questions. But if I actually asked those Koreans any questions, they'd just tell me "That's natural" or "That's not natural" without explaining anything. It really made things confusing for me.

@@GoBillyKorean I know, Billy, I am sorry if I carried away what you wanted to say. However, 선현우 does say that a lot. It is because he doesn't want to confuse us with useless information, but he says that. I had to figure out myself the reason for the difference between 맛있다 and 맛없다

My best tutors were Korean teachers while I was in class. One has a time after class for open questions and discussions. She invited me to coffee to practice Korean with her and never took her up on it. A year later, hope I can still reach her! A private tutor for questions and practice would be ideal now.

I had been scattering through videos to find the best one to learn my korean with, and as soon as I found your videos there was a click. yours are so helpful and easier to understand and I just want to say thank you so so much! I have been doing this for about a month now and I’m on my way to learning how to read hangul faster and write! 👍🏼❤️

Well, I've used a Korean tutor, at my college for free that was in-person. He's very nice and helped me with my Beginning Korean 1 class, and even helped me review the entire textbook again for Beginning Korean 1 before my Beginning Korean 2 class, I'm currently taking Beginning Korean 2, and have as-of-yet not been able to go back to tutoring, as summer hours at the tutoring center on campus are short, but I do meet up with my actual teacher for my current Korean class every week for an online web conference to go over each new chapter. I think you forgot to mention, that, depending on your area, both free and in-person tutoring might be available.

Thank you for making video lessons about Korean language. It really helps me a lot. Though I am not yet fluent, I hope I can make it step by step. To be honest, I learned Hangeul through your lesson, Learn Hangul in 90 Minutes - Start to Finish [Complete Series]. As for now, I can read Korean words and sentences. And I am looking forward to speak like a native Korean. 감사합니다 선생님 Billy. More power to you.

I feel very privileged after watching this. I have taken Korean in a classroom environment that was taught by a native and met a Korean who I've become close with on Tandem before she started tutoring with Italki! Definitely feel lucky in that regard.

I've been learning with a tutor for 3 and a half years now, seeing her for 90 minutes each week. I cannot recommend it enough. Having started studying with her from very early on she had a chance to correct my pronunciation before I got used to doing it wrong. She also holds me accountable for not doing enough and makes me feel guilty when I haven't done my homework and gives praise when I've done something particularly well. It's hard to do for yourself. Another advantage of using a tutor over course is that you can skip topics you're not interested in. Just because it's in the book doesn't mean you need it (yet). Having to learn something you're not interested in or isn't fun for you can be really demotivating. For example, I skipped the whole "how to ask for/explain the way/public transportation"-thing which was in the first course book. The course was put together with people that are learning Korea in mind so I can see it being useful while being there, but _here_ I knew I'd never user it (and I am still not proven wrong, 3 years later). By the way, I found my tutor through an ad in the local classifieds so it might be worth checking if you want "in person" tutoring instead of "online". She's a "real" teacher teaching Korean kids of diplomats and expats that grow up here and offers coursed in the local universities and I very thankful to have her available via KaTalk any time.

3.5 years... Are you fluent at this point?
@m00hk00h
@m00hk00h 5 жыл бұрын
@@knittingarch Not even close. In terms of "hours spend actively learning" I'm around the 500 hour mark and consider myself intermediate. Learning Korean for me is just a hobby so it competes with my other hobbies for what little free time I even have, since I work full time. And when I'm on holiday or too busy I just don't do it at all. So on average I put in about 4 to 5 hours a week which is not even close to enough if you wanna get fluent fast (which is not my goal).

After 2 years of self studying, I decided to look for a good tutor to help me with things I still need work on. Tutors are really helpful with things that are unclear. I strongly suggest you learn as much as you can before you get a tutor, because it is expensive. I paid $440 (with a discount lol) for 10 weeks of intermediate tutoring. However, it's really worth it for me. In my opinion, the smaller the class, the better. My class is small, which makes it more personal for questions you have about certain things. Plus, my tutor and classmates are really nice, understanding, and we even have casual conversations with each other. Hope this helped out. 화이팅! 👍

I don't do internet tutoring but I get private tutoring one on one. It's once a week and very useful. Even though it's expensive I really encourage people to get a tutor!

I'm gathering another friend to do a learning on Monday . I really wanted to learn Korean , Japanese, and Mandarin , so I can speak with a bit of fluency when visiting the country. It's good to know someone out there has the same interest as you. I will push to learn them , thank you for the motive.

Most of my tutoring experience is with Japanese because I've studied that language so much more but I'm obviously watching your videos because I'm interested in Korean. I guess I didn't really try tutors much until I was intermediate and well able to hold a conversation with someone. If they were paid to talk to me but still I could hold a conversation. I tried many tutors and generally I liked the ones who were good listeners the best so I could just get lots of speaking practice. But I always went for the cheapest tutors. Sometimes even less than $10 but $10 was pretty typical. Is there really a benefit to the more expensive tutors (say $20/hour and over) on iTalki or whatever? As a beginner I pretty much have to resort to English to communicate but I would really only want my tutor to speak all Korean all the time but I've found that the tutors all use English. I didn't look too too hard so maybe I gave up too easily? Are there tutors that teach beginners using all Korean?

Thanks for the video! I've tried tutoring before and I think it did help me get through that period of time when I needed someone to keep me focused... but like you said, $18/hour is not a long term solution. I'm at the point where I know a lot and I can understand a lot, but I can't make fluent sentences quickly while speaking.... not sure what to do...
