Guess what I just found out yesterday? Our country of Canada has started having court cases won by single moms to have guys they never even slept with but had a male mentor for their child(ren) be successfully sued for child support. And even more for those they did sleep with but even with DNA tests proving the dude isn't the biological father, still required to pay child support. *...with this crap transforming our legal system I'm now swearing off dating single moms and refusing to be any type of mentor for their children even if I don't date the moms...*

I think you just described my life---my first marriage at the age of 32 to a woman who was available at the time and although not being the perfect match, I convinced myself that she may be my only chance. Within 2 years it was crumbling around me but I kept it together for 8 years until it finally crashed. For the next 25 years I had relationships but being gun shy, nothing seemed right to me. Just by chance and for something fresh in my life, I joined an Asian dating site and I became the Unicorn Hunter. taking time on line with a long distance relationship before comming to the Philippines to meet my girl. She had been separated for 7 years so if we had a future she needed an annullment so I decided to help her with that and in the three years that process took I knew I wanted a future with my unicorn. Four years after meeting on line, my unicorn became my wife. Two years later and I have never been happier in my life and there are no signs of a sinking ship

Magandang Gabi Pea 🙂... When my wife and I were dating she noticed how I did my own laundry and cooked for myself and became sad... I asked her what was wrong and she said "You don't need me"... and frowned. I held her close and said, "No, I don't 'need' you, but even more to the point, I "want' you, 'choose' you and 'love' you". I feel it is good to be independent and capable, and 'needing' someone should not be the reason for a relationship. After close to 30 years of marriage I still do my own laundry, feeling that I should not put extra load on my dear wife to be cleaning my dirty clothes... .... and we share a lot of cooking time, although the kids prefer my meals more than my wife... (she has some unique Asian dishes that she cooks up which I've not mastered. Need vs Choice and Love... I'd prefer to be with someone out of Love and Choice vs Need. Just my humble opinion. Another great topic Pea. As always, Ingat sa Palagi, and my best to you and your family. 🙂

Its more than all of those reasons you gave. I was alone for 20 years mainly because I got married at 19 and my wife cheated on me 3 weeks after we got married while I was away in a all male military school. Because of that I felt "whats the point of marriage if there is no loyalty"? But after finally finding a truly good woman I wish. I had found her when I was very young. I don't know if one good women exist in America, but I would assume maybe the good ones are already taken. Anyway when you do find the one good woman then she will provide the wind beneath yours wings letting you fly to New heights and accomplish all the dreams you gave up on in life. Honestly, when guys ask me how they can find a Filipina wife, I caution them about looking for a partner solely based on nationality. I found a woman I loved, and she happened to be Filipina. There are plenty of stereotypes about Pinays, and while some maybe true about some girls, not all will be true about the one you meet. Marriage has to be worked at, and marrying outside of your culture brings additional items into the relationship that can cause unique problems. With that said, I couldn't be happier with my Pinay!

Love the video! Very interesting take on the different types of relationships available here. Do I need a woman? I would have said no but after two failed relationships in the USA, I have to admit I was not fully prepared for what I found in the Philippines. My two ex-wives prepared me to take care of myself and have low expectations because God knows it would have killed them to take care of me! I was initially shocked at the high quality and quantity of women here. I slept with too many to count and have dated four long term. The one that I am with now is probably the last one I'll ever want or need as far as I can tell. She is unbelievable by western standards. She wants to take care of me all the time (a novel idea that is really easy to get used to), she can cook, she can sew and she cleans the house all the time. She won't let me do anything myself unless I insist. I don't think that I can list all the things right with her and all the things wrong with western women. It was just plain shocking to my system to find a culture of women like this. You can never go back to the horrible, entitled women of the west once you have been spoiled like I have been.

I just need one intelligent woman. LOL. Anyway, congratulations on your one year anniversary ( a little early).Once again ,thanks for all your hard work. Your first year has been a wild ride, from caribous to coconut trees, and I've enjoyed every minute of it. Can't wait to see what you have in store for year 2.

You are wise beyond your years. I've been watching some of your videos over the last few weeks. Since I listen, and reflect on what you are saying, I've learned a great deal about the culture of your country, the way you value all people, and about myself. What you are doing is important for those of us willing to put in the time to understand. Thank you.

I share some of Michael's feelings and, although I am not adverse to developing a relationship, my looking toward a move to PI is supporting my own happiness. I respect and appreciate Filipinas' general beliefs in family and mutual support, but if I never find "the one", I will maintain my contentment. If I do, I will maintain my contentment, and hopefully add some additional happiness into the mix. Either way, it's a win.

@@michaelcollins8328 Very sensible. Most relationships fail, and even the ones that succeed rarely satisfy fully both parties. Most people are unhappy or unfulfilled in their relationships, and those without are mostly lonely. Tulpas and tech are the best solutions I've found, and while not perfect are certainly better than either humans or loneliness.

I believe that I've discovered a cultural misunderstanding that might be worth exploring. We in the west are a dating culture while the Philippines is a courting culture. We take things casually and don't think dropping a girlfriend after a few dates to be a big deal. Filipinos, particularly provincial girls, generally take "courtship" very seriously and commit themselves to the relationship whole-heartedly very quickly. They seem to take any romantic interest on the man's part to be a serious commitment. They can become very jealous and incensed if you are dating more than one girl at a time and consider this to be a very serious breach of trust, apparently, on par with adultery. This explains why they often treat him as if they're engaged after a few dates or even a few phone calls and they may call their boyfriend "Asawa ko" (my spouse), long before he's willing to take the plunge. I see evidence that the ancient concept of betrothal still exists in the traditional culture. She may actually think of herself as betrothed, that is, she believes that a second (or third?) date initiates a betrothal and that she has a binding marriage agreement which is only waiting to be formally officiated. In ancient times a betrothal constituted a formal marriage even though it hadn't been consummated, and could only be terminated by a divorce. Apparently, the traditional Filipina often believes that she is in some form of this arrangement while her western boyfriend doesn't. No wonder she feels free to call him "Asawa ko," because in her mind, he is just that. I'd say that's quite a big cultural misunderstanding.

Yeah, I have some things I want to do for myself before worrying about a relationship. I have issues with my appearance and health that I need to address. Part of "making myself happy" before approaching a relationship. I was willing to get something started online before going there but that ended up not being an option. So I have a new friend instead and a renewed purpose to focus on getting myself fixed first. After that, I will be ready to get my life in the Philippines going, and maybe find someone to be with. 😀

I was married to a Thai woman for 32 year before she passed away. She was constantly sick for 30 of those years but I loved her to the end. It was mostly sadness and illness with love overriding it all. I kind of lost my mind for a while after she died and fairly quickly I met a pinay on line. I was trying not to face my pain, I was running away. I flew to the Phils, met her in person, flew back home and sold everything. I flew back to Phils thinking I found it, I finally get to be happy. A beautiful pinay to live out my years with. Well... you probably know the rest of this story. It didn't work out, of course but not because of cheating and all that. We just weren't really compatible. Too many disagreements and harsh words. I've been alone now for 5 years and I'm ok with it, but I would much rather be with someone that I am reasonably compatible with.
