Since the earliest discovered writing. With gilgamesh who was always a woman- and probably manizing around, a king till he found his bestie and lover who stood up to him and he became tempered by him. Then they did reckless stuff angered the gods. His lover died. Soul searching and searching or eternal life by him. Discovered humility, caring about and thsat his immortality lies in his legacy, and kids, grandkids, ... he had the duty to sire to sire as king. Sounds really like a mix between tonies and steves storylines. They will have a hard time keeping that up withrunning out of epos elements

But Tobey is the worst Spider-Man. He meshes well with 60's Spider-Man when things were hokier and a lot more flat, but the other two have been probably the most accurate with jokes that make more sense than "you're the one who's out Gobby. Out of your mind" that bit. Still gives me super aids. Not to say Tobey was bad. He was a decent Parker. Cried a bit too much. But decent Parker.
@Cassandra112
@Cassandra112 7 жыл бұрын
hehe, now I feel bad, with the posts "correcting" and "Toby is bad." 2002 spiderman was very successful and popular, regardless of fans saying "spiderman wasn't right." It would be better to say, spiderman is a dichotomy. Parker is as you say, shy, introvert, just trying to help. But, when he puts on the mask, hes Spiderman, and becomes the quipmaster. so he is both. And Toby and the script did a good job with Parker.

Deadstar: The best Star Wars film that went on the most interesting character journey didn't end with anything blowing up at all. It's not necessary. It feels too much like a retread at this point It's at the point where the CHARACTERS are having to point out that it's old-hat. Han Solo: "Hey, why don't we just blow it up? There's always a way to blow it up." The great twist they could have done would have been to actually have NO way to blow it up, and they just disabled it so this thing can be a threat in the next film or two. They've even made blowing it up so boring that they don't create any drama around that fact, despite it being 20 times more massive than the Death Star. Of course, all drama was previously sapped in blowing things up by having a 9 year old accidentally blow up the big thing in a movie once, so at least they're following in Lucas' footsteps.

Looking back at this after Endgame, it is interesting to look at how differentiated the characters became. Thor thundamentally broken (this was an accident at first, but whatever), Iron Man a more straightforwardly mature father, Cap much more jaded and self-aware, Nat and Hawkeye are the heart of the film and Hulk has become a different person altogether. As cynical a reading as Jenny made here 2.5 years ago, you can look back on those similar story beats more like templates for the characters to grow from rather than stiff jackets that they all fit into.

Merida started out adventurous and never suppressed her identity to those she loved, she wasn't brooding and had a normal relationship to her younger siblings, and a positive, encouraging relationship with her father. Elsa arguably starts out fairly rule-following already, only reluctantly agreeing to mischief, she doesn't have the same wild fervor for life that Merida has except in rebellion, and even then, until the second movie, she's not really out exploring or climbing dangerous cliffs. I think Merida and Elsa are very different-feeling characters.

While I agree that the characters may have some basic archetypes in common, I do think there are major nuances as well. For example, Tony Stark has a guilt complex, Dr Strange's humor is dryer and he also just wants to learn everything, Scott Lang is less arrogant and more quirky, Vision is experiencing emotions for the first time, Thor is constantly balancing on the edge of worthiness and cockiness, etc. By the way, I love the Spider-Man dress and jacket- I have the same jacket myself.

Oh I know, and I know you know that I know. But here's something you didn't know...' Warmachine: 'Why does it always have to be me, Tony? (sigh) I guess, I did sign up for this.' Pepper: 'Alright I'd like to go over our plans for... wait nevermind I'm not in this movie.' Vision: 'Well I'm not sure, but I'd like to believe in the best for you. Do you believe you can be good?' Hulk: 'RAAAAAWR!' Banner: "Um, hi. Uh, sure I can help work on that.' Black Panther: 'I will fight you, if I must. Let us both hope it does not come to that.' Winter Soldier: '... Fine. I think they're expanding their characters now. Tony in Civil War becoming more pessimistic unhinged, Thor becoming optimistic, friendship-loving and proactive, while Dr. Strange goes more the pessimistic-arrogant aristocratic route. It's kinda similar in real life. When two people with similar personalities interact for longer period they either try to out-perform the other OR they each find their own niche. Dr. Strange is the pop-culture guy compared to the monks, but compared (and played off of) Tony he's more the mystical intellectual. Starlord they pushed towards immature loser, which fits him well, with the hope that he'll grow up. Ant Man I can't say. I haven't seen the Wasp movie yet, and I feel that's the one where his character gets expanded upon. What? No this comment isn't two years late.

Old dude here. The reason the characters in these comic book super hero movies are all the same, and the reason the dialog is generic and forgettable, is that the studios know they don't need to put into any effort into the writing because the people who go to these movies don't care about the writing. All anyone cares about are the action sequences and the CGI, so that's what they put all their money into. If the audience ever starts demanding more, they'll get more.

I think they'll address it in Infinity War. All the super heroes will be in Avengers HQ and Dr Strange will say something snarky about Thanos, then Tony Stark will be all offended and one -up him with something even snarkier. Dr Strange will then use a magical spell to increase his snarkiness, and Friday will analyse the snark in order to feed Tony some counter-snark. Then Star-Lord will chime in with some snark he picked up on Rigel-Beta-IV from a Gerglorpian prostitute. Right before they come to blows a bunch of CGI monsters bust in and all three of them try to quip simultaneously about being interrupted. This forms a rift within the newly reformed Avengers, and stage one of Thanos' master plan is complete.

I've heard this argument a few times and I don't really agree with it at all. Starting with the. If fear thing, I don't see how Scott (Ant Man) fits the description you provided *at all*, but on a wider level I think applying that basic character outline to Strange, Tony, Thor and Starlord is dismissing a lot of nuance regarding how each of them is characterized. Strange really *isn't* careless at all. Neither is Thor, really. Even in the very beginnings of their films I don't see how "not taking things seriously enough" is remotely a flaw for either of those characters. *Tony* doesn't take things seriously, but that's a defense mechanism and usually only applies when he doesn't know the full context behind a thing; I.e he doesn't take criticism against his weapons business seriously because he doesn't realize what they're being used for. Strange and Thor take their obligations VERY seriously. Thor's flaw is that he's insanely headstrong and stubborn and Strange's flaw is that he has trouble letting go of things. Starlord really *doesn't* take things seriously, and his big flaw is that he's a hedonist who just sort of drifts through life as an overgrown child with no higher cause beyond fun and money. Once these characters all meet each other I don't see it being. Remotely a problem. Scott is more selfless and humble than Starlord, who's less forward thinking and burdened by guilt than Stark, who's more flexible than Thor, who's warmer than Strange, etc etc. I'm not remotely worried about the "smart alecky-ness" of these characters overwhelming all their other far more interesting traits the second they make contact with each other. I fundamentally disagree with the thesis of this video, is what I'm saying.

What about winter soldier makes it good though? Cap is still the unrelatable prescient dope that makes every right choice at every turn; the antagonist's plot is still absolutely unmistakably evil thinly veiled as "justice" despite being comprised of doing completely random evil and emulating Adolf Hitler; Bucky is moping like every young tortured super powered hero before him and makes every stupid choice the script need him to. I mean, what's good about it besides using older clichés that are just as tired and repetitive? Sure, there has been some time since zombies replaced nazis, but Bucky is just a paradoxically communist nazi zombie that likes to sulk suspiciously near catastrophic events and then run away looking guilty when someone notices him.
@ThePonderer
@ThePonderer 7 жыл бұрын
wolfspam In what way is Steve remotely a "dope"? For that matter, in what way is he unrelatable? What's so hard about relating to a guy who just wanted to do some good in the world and is faced with the idea that maybe all his work was for nothing and that his world and ideals are falling apart around him? At the very least you can surely sympathize. In what way is Pierce's evil "random"? Bucky doesn't mope. He kinda can't when he's in assassin mode for almost the whole movie, and none of his scenes as himself constitute "moping". What stupid choices are you talking about? Winter Soldier is an incredibly well-thought out, complex, character driven narrative where every decision a character makes comes from a natural internal place, with incredibly well choreographed action, a well balanced tone, a tight pace, interesting political commentary, and most importantly characters that are all compelling relevant to the central themes. Not sure where your confusion is.
