The thing I like about the portrayal of the Sontarans here is because it combines elements from each version: the design and more serious threat they brought in the Classic (not to mention a time travel based thing as well) , the Sontar-Ha chant introduced in the RTD Era, and comedic aspects that Moffat had for Strax

Never mind Dan returning, I've got a lingering feeling he's not even Dan Lewis and later in the series turns out to be someone else in disguise or isn't aware of who he truly is. He could be just Dan Lewis from Liverpool who's not fazed by any of the alien stuff that's happened to him or isn't hesitant to fight an advanced species.......... But he shares or has shown a lot of qualities that the Doctor has possessed throughout the life we know at least......... Also he wants to be tour guide, Ruth Clayton was a tour guide before her reveal......... There's some kind of link, whether it means anything........... I'm not saying he might be a chaemeleon arch hidden Doctor who's subconscious explains why he shares the qualities......... @@ollyreece4208 I suspect Ruth Doctor is the line of Doctors that have fought Swarm and Azure. Dan may be a later Incarnation of the same line. This is confirming for me the multiverse, that Gallifrey that was destroyed in The Timeless Children was their Gallifrey, and The Division was from that planet hunting for them.

Guys, I think the blackout was the ships encasing the Earth. The Lupari stayed at the end to protect the Earth from the Flux.

I thought the Lupari ships was the blackout protecting from the wave of Flux and because "it was Karvanista's plan" that distracted them from their mission allowing the Sontarans through, he was punished with fixing it solo. The rest of the Lupari fleet only stayed because of the soul bond and threat to their "companions" from the Sontarans.

I think there discussion was about whether the flux passed by or was sort of an all consuming thing. Like if the ships protected them and blocked out the light for 3 minutes...then they assume the flux passed for them to stop blocking it again and it not just being like an endless black hole of destruction.

Sarah Jane Adventures reactions would be the best thing ever, the show really feels like Tennant and Eccelston's Doctor Who. Especially the later seasons tackle some more mature themes as the kids grow up - homelessness, alienation, etc.

Interesting fact for you. The character called Williamson who's building the tunnels under Liverpool was actually a real person. Williamson was a philanthropist, landowner and tobacco merchant. No one still to this day knows why he had the tunnels built, some believe it was just a desire to create work for the poor. Over the years the tunnels were filled in, but after some investigations in the mid 1990's volunteers have excavated lots of chambers and tunnel networks across several sites, with some sections open to the public with guided tours available at the Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre. I just hope they're prepared for an influx of Doctor Who fans paying them a visit.

Flux is so far just proving exactly what I thought Chibnall should have done from the start. Chibnall did Broadchurch, which was incredible, so I've always thought that, to help put a new spin onto Doctor Who, that all of Jodie's seasons should have been full season arcs instead of the monster of the week stuff that occasionally tied into a continuos plot line. Maybe if he did that, Jodie would have actual had a fair shot as the Doctor. But at least this looks like she'll finally get to take advantage of a good script (Although I do retain the opinion that both of her specials with the Daleks were actually really good and enjoyable, and I personally enjoyed the Timeless Child story).

I completely agree especially with the specials being good and that I enjoyed the timeless child I think the timeless child storyline had some issues but I feel like it was a good change like it hasn't actually taken anything away from the timelords only added more which I liked

Only thing I hate about the timeless child story is that it’s the doctor. I dont like the idea that the doctor is a some kind of chosen one. Its been done to death in other sci-fi shows.

I also am intrigued by the timeless child story. We’ve had the doctor being dang near deity at times in nuWho, and it kinda drove me nuts. But if the doctor is actually more than just a time lord” it would make sense of it. And it wouldn’t change anything about the doctors basic character.

Having re-rewatched the episode (via the reaction) I think this might be my favourite 13th Doctor episode. Fugitive of the Judoon is close, but the Sontarans + Swarm etc. push War over the top for me. I've been a pretty big critic of Chibnall over the past couple seasons, but it seems like he's actually playing to his strengths as a writer with a serialized narrative like Flux.

I'm glad they have returned to the classic designs for the Sontarons and even more classic Personalities. I've really disliked the super comedic (also it's not that Sontarons can't be comedic, for gods sake they have potatoes for heads! There just has to be a balance) version we have had in Nuwho, especially Starx (Nothing against his actor Dan Starkey who has done an amazing job with the scripts he was given especially in this episode) with the only Nywho version I've enjoyed before this episode being the one that appeared in the Sarah Jane Adventures. Fun fact, the Time Warriors (The clip from the 3rd doctor Ep you showed) wasn't just the first appearance of the Sontarons but also the first Appearance on Sarah Jane. Although I seem to be in the few that mostly enjoyed last series and even enjoyed Series 11 (to an extent) I'm adoring this series. I wish this is the direction Chris Chibnall had taken his entire run in this very serialised story as that has been two fantastic episodes (in my eyes). Also Kravanista (big adorable dog go) isn't Scottish (Unfortunately) but a Liverpool actor. Also I'm loving Swarm and Azure, easily my favourite original villians in a long time in Modern Who (definitely since before the silence) and I can't wait to see what they will do In other words come on Chapter 3!

I am another that has liked Chibnall/Jodie's era. The thing I think I enjoy about it is each series is unique. RTD and Moffat both had a formula they'd follow every series RTD: mysterious repeated phrase popping up in mostly stand alone stories with a reveal in 2 part finale. Moffat: usually more serialized (usually convoluted) main arc delving into The Doctors past While Chibnall, his 3 series are unique S11: Classic Who style stories that anyone could jump into any of them S12: RTD style story arc with a mysteries phrase S13: Serialized event story

Fun fact... at 33.21 the original Sontaran actor Kevin Lindsey found it difficult to breathe in the costume (I believe he was asthmatic) so the mask redesigned for the next Sontaran story The Sontaran Experiment with Tom Baker.

The 3 minutes eclipse was the lupari dog people shield. Dan said it must have been them. 3 minutes because the flux after 3 minutes had moved on. It's lots of clouds across the universe. There is one scene in episode 1 showing it move like a cloud. It doesn't spread outwards getting bigger

On the subject of Tolkein reacting to LOTR, I'd like to see what Walt Disney would think of Frozen, both for the story and the animation style. He had wanted to produce an adaptation of the Snow Queen during his lifetime, and CG animation, though different from hand drawn, is beautiful and unique in its own ways.

That entire conversation about why they sent the 1 dog man could've been avoided if they actually just listened to the scene. They blamed him, because he was the one that gave the order to surround the planet.

Doctor 10.5 was “part human” but still also time lord. It was like a sideways regeneration. He still has a time lord mind but he ages instead of regenerating. Donna, because she was human with bits of time lords mind, couldn’t biologically handle it, hence her memory wipe. But the second version of the tenth doctor, had bits of physical human but still a time lord mind. He and rose could come back but I kinda doubt they will do it. As far as the flux being anti time, I think we are going back to the start of the time lords and this trio could be anti timelords. In some time lord mythology, there were three founders of time lord society, rassilon, omega, and “the other”. If chibnall uses that classic who mythology, there could have been three dark versions leading anti timelords.

A'ight. The surface area of the Earth is 510 million sq km ish. 510 million is about 1/14 of 7 billion. So 14 ships to each square kilometre. A square km is 1 million sq m. 1 million divided by 14 is 71,429. So each ship has to have a surface area of 71, 429 sq m. Take the sq route of that -> If each ship was a square it would be about 267.25 m each side. That assumes the wall is at surface level. To be beyond the atmosphere they would need to be much bigger as they would be enclosing a much greater volume.
