*Update* As you can probably tell I answer these questions completely relying on my knowledge and we don’t do extra takes. In the Vaping question I mistakenly said it’s Propylene Glycol that causes popcorn lung, when it is actually diacetyl (found in some flavorings). I will constantly try to improve my knowledge and give you the most honest, evidence based medicine info. Thanks for watching, love you all!
We are back at it responding to your comments and questions via this monthly video series. I love reading and responding to your comments and as you can tell I'll jump into the comments section with a reply or a heart quite often.
A couple favorite questions/comments from this video are
1) Why do men have nipples?
2) Why do doctors smoke?
3) What are the health effects of vaping aka what are my thoughts on vaping ?
4) What medical procedure makes me nauseous?
5) Is pimping easy?
6) Do I have doctor's handwriting?
7) Can doctors prescribe themselves medications?
8) My thought on makeup
9) Will I ever make an ASMR video?
Doctors are traditionally unreachable and I want to change that. So hop into this video’s and any other of my video’s comment section and ask dr mike! I want to see your username pop up on my next responding to comments video.
If you have an idea of something you want me to cover in depth, please let me know because I take your requests seriously. We will be back with more Medical Drama Review Series in a couple of weeks so please submit more names of shows/episodes you'd like for me to watch. Love you all!

For those of you jumping into the comments section to tell me how successful vaping is at helping smokers quit please read this. Just published this week. The Wall Street Journal (7/9) reports U.S. adult smokers who did not use electronic vaping devices to aid in smoking cessation were more than twice as likely to quit smoking as those who did, a new study published in PLOS One concludes. The study also found that 90 percent of smokers who vaped at the start of the study were still smoking a year later. The researchers said they did not find evidence that vaping devices helped adult smokers quit at higher rates than those who did not use the products. The Washington Times (7/9) reports “e-cigarettes are an ineffective tool for smoking cessation,” the survey of 858 smokers suggests. The article says “more and more research has found that e-cigarette use isn’t a reliable path to quitting cigarettes.”

I used it myself to quit, I smoked for 23 years and quit in 2 weeks. The first few days I still smoked while also vaping with apple flavored vape juice. Then I stopped using cigarettes and just ate an apple jolly rancher to sate the oral fixation and continued vaping, after a week or so I stopped vaping all-together and then all I had to do was quit eating jolly ranchers(which was easy, I don't really like candy). I was really surprised with how easy it was. It worked SO well! That was 3 years ago. To say that vaping devices do not help people quit just isn't correct. Perhaps vaping devices are just not used correctly and with a plan to quit.

Doctor Mike I quit with the nicotine gum cold turkey after 10 years of smoking a pack per day. After vaping for 2-3 years i still don't have a cough, where as with smoking you have a bad one. I highly suggest the gum! Vaping just eggs the problem on and I don't believe it helps you to quit. Either way, it takes will power.

Dr Mike I believe the chemical you were looking for in some of the vaping liquids and concoctions is called diacetyl which was used in popcorn factories as a flavorant for butter flavoring it is made in a powdered form that when in a popcorn factory would be inhaled and get into the respiratory tract where it would cause a mutation of the alveoli and cause them to malform and degrade

Men have nipples because mammary crests are formed in the first week of gestation, before the embryo gets (or not) the testosterone that defines if is a boy or a girl, wich happens between 5th and 7th week if I'm not wrong. So if the embryo becomes a woman, that's a useful part, if she wants to be a mother, if the embryo becomes a man, is just a reminder that you could have been a woman. 😂 That's a joke but, you know... I hope I have explained this correctly, I'm not English speaker. 🖖

A spoonful of sugar, or something sweet like square of chocolate, overwhelms the vagus nerve. I've been told this many times. We first heard that chocolate helps hiccups from Nanny Piggins. We have used this trick so many times since, because my younger brother has a hiccup-burping tick that causes him to hiccup-burp so violently that he can't breath, and the chocolate used to make it stop for a little while.

After I finished cancer treatment I ran into my family practice doc who had changed offices while I was undergoing treatment. He had acted quickly when I found a lump in my breast even though I was only 32 and it easily could have been hormonal. I had an aggressive type of breast cancer and he saved my life by pushing for a biopsy when other docs wanted me to wait a month or two to see if it went away. This is rubbish. If you define gender as male/female/other, so biological, your gender is determined at the moment of conception, as it's genetic. Men are not females in the womb, but the early fetus does not have sexual characteristics yet. So men and females are the same in the first stages. And both have about 6-8 nipples. In further development, all but two of those dissapear, but not always. This why some people have 3 nipples, or even more.

The squatty potty position is actually a biomechanically better way to poop. The position relaxes the levator Ani in the pelvic floor, relaxes the pelvic floor and allows stool to move more easily. I treat numerous people with pelvic floor dyssynergia (I'm a pelvic floor PT) and changing your position is helpful for many many people. But I do agree with you that there is big marketing for it. You don't need to go out and buy something. Putting any sturdy household item you already have underneath your feet to raise you knees above hip level will work just fine. 👍

My stepdad made me a squatty potty. It's improved my haemorrhoids drastically, and yes, I had already made changes to my diet. Eating as much fiber and drinking water amap. But the squatty potty just helps SO MUCH.

I've used a Squatty Potty for years. Anyone who is shorter or has problems with constipation should try it. Or use a short footstool or short box to save $ on the Squatty Potty. It helped me a lot. I also think it would be good for kids who don't even touch the ground.

As I understand it, men have nipples because in the embryonic development, the sexual differentiation occurs after the breast primordium forms, so when the embryo develops male gonads, it already has mammary gland and nipples.

Basically, when you're in the womb and still developing, your body is in a 'neutral' or 'middle' state in a sense. Your body prepares certain body parts in advance, and when your organs controlling your hormones develop afterwards, those hormones determine which body parts grow fully or not at all. In this case, male testes which are called gonads (the female version is the ovaries) produce testosterone, and that hormone doesn't make breast tissue grow in men in the same way a female's does as men don't lactate/give birth/etc. and they have a higher amount of testosterone in their bodies than females. It's quite interesting to learn which body parts would change if you were born the opposite gender. I highly recommend looking it up! :)

If you’re wondering why men have nipples , it’s due to the 23rd chromosome of a male being an x and y pair. A Fetus begins it’s life as a female regardless of whether is has a Y chromosome of not. Nipples develop very early before the male characteristics kick in. Hope this helps.

I am really happy with how you approached the topic of vaping and smoking in general. Just for some history I was a drug addict (fetanyl, sorry if I spelled it wrong) and alcoholic since the age of 13 and it lasted for 9 years until I was 22. Anyways I started smoking cigarettes at like 20 and let me tell you, I have been able to get clean from fetanyal and alcohol for almost a year now but I have not been able to quit smoking. I started vaping to quit cigarettes but it didn’t help I just became addicted to vaping instead. I have smoked for 2 years now and I have a bad cough all the time and my throat hurts constantly. So even through all the OD’s I have suffered and all the mistakes I made while high or drunk, I truly wish I had never started smoking. I’ve tried gum and patches and nothing helps. I know it is shorting my life drastically and that truly saddens me. Wish I had never started.

The fetus begins as female when in the womb. When chromosomes form, those determine whether the body that is forming forms male or female parts. (This is something you learn in Psychology)
@gkeller1031
@gkeller1031 4 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly (I'm a psych student), it's not so much that it begins "female" as much as it just begins neutral. It's the SRY gene on the Y chromosome that initiates male development and halts female development. Without the presence of that gene or if the body fails to respond properly to its effects (in the case of androgen insensitivity syndrome) the fetus continues to develop as female. Before that point, no uniquely male or uniquely female development happens, so I hesitate to say that all fetuses start female. What you said is basically correct since female development is a continuation of the development that happens pre-differentiation, so it's just a technicality.

Hi, I´m a medical student, in case you are searching in the comments the answer of why men have nipples, well here it is. During pregnancy, women and men are not fenotipically differentiated until later on, men express a gen called SRY to differentiate from women until 14 (more or less) weeks. But the gens for "nipples" were already expressed, so men keep the nipples but not all the mammary tissue because of this SRY gen.

I found vaping not only didn't help me quit, it made my lungs feel worse than cigarettes did (barring a few cigarette brands I will not name here that was even worse than vaping). I quit twice but sadly back at it again. Both times for any length was "cold turkey". It was the only way, and had to be completely away from even the smell. Also yes. A spoonful of sugar maybe didn't help "the medicine go down" but it absolutely fixed stubborn hiccups! Finally in response to some of your videos about obesity. I would never trust a doctor that told me I was fine smoking, anymore than if they told me I was fine overweight. The clear evidence of health risks is there. I expect a doctor to care about that even when I make bad choices and not be afraid to tell me they are bad choices. Even more so than my friends. It's their job. I tell them "I know" because I do. But if one told me otherwise my response would be "I need a different doctor."
