great podcast. really important top. Dave and Anne are doing some really important work to join the dots between soil health, nutrient density of our food and human health! the book is amazing - not just an important topic but extremely well written.

The government could for example stop subsidizing sugar and corn. That alone would go pretty far to a more healthy population.

100%. changing the Farm Bill to stop the US Federal Government paying to make nutrient poor foods even cheaper would be a good start!

I wonder about hydroponics - without soil, how much nutrition do hydroponic plants have???

Regarding the book, 'What your food ate'... I recommend Sadhguru's global movement "Save Soil". He suggests because modern agriculture only puts back Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium, it is slowly becoming more desert-like, requiring more water to grow food since the soil does not hold it. He suggests that the way to bring back the soil biome is to plant trees and maintain bovine on it the land.

Cooool! Fabulous interview which I truly wish will inspire younger members of our health-seeking communities to jump in with their own studies/careers to steer and wrangle!! our food/ag systems toward the light of Whole Systems production/Regenerative and Sustainable/Ecological Agronomy.

I absolutely LOVE Dr Vandana Shiva: “Soil not Oil” ! Tilling the soil destroys the micro biome but using the plow allows the planting of seed properly as in the Bible- the book of instructions by the Creator.

(I do hope all your listeners are attending to this very ‘minor’ matter - of from whence our food comes, and what it’s worth as we bite into it. For the moment it is largely indecipherable.

Of course, healthy soil means healthy humans! The soil is already being depleted of nutrients by repeatedly planting and reaping plus, the farmers are also using too many unhealthy chemicals! Some farmers would also have NON-organic fruits and vegetables among those that are organic and would say that all are organic! To them, money are more important than our health; they don't care whether it's their own relatives who're buying and consuming those fruits and vegetables!
