We had a wiper on our Prius and liked it. Now with the EV6, we miss it. Unlike the video, our rear window does get stuff deposited on it. We live in a rural area with some dirt and gravel roads. Dust accumulates on the rear window. Add the misty rain that is frequent in the Pacific NW and the rear window becomes translucent, not transparent. Not everyone can keep their cars looking like they just came out of the factory. There are no car washes in our area, so our car waits until spring to get washed. If a rear wiper was an option for the EV6 I would opt for it.

I understand your situration, but that same situation would affect every sedan in existence, yet nobody complains about it because they are sedans, and that is the point of this video. Yes, it would be nice if the EV6 had a rear wiper, especially in your situation, but it is not needed in most cases because of the sedan-like design of the rear.
@gubsak55
@gubsak55 Ай бұрын
So would I. We live in Southern Germany with rain and snow for months each year. It is not a problem on the motorway but passing through towns with a maximum speed of 50 km/h (32 miles) in snowy conditions, and you can see nothing. The heated windows can't keep up with the downpour. In all European towns, the maximum speed is 50 km/h or less for 95% of the roads. No windscreen wiper is bonkers. Yes, I grew up and started driving cars without them, but that was 50 to 30 years ago! Since then all our cars has had window wipers.
@EV-olution
@EV-olution Ай бұрын
@@gubsak55 I understand your situation. I live in the province of Québec and we get a lot of snow and very cold temeratures, our city streets are also 50km/h maximum and towns are mostly 40 or 30km/h, yet the design of the rear and the rear defroster of my EV6 have worked perfectly to keep the rear window free of snow in most conditions. FYI, the image in my video, of the rear of the EV6 covered in snow but with a clear rear window, is my car after driving in a snow storm. The point of this video is that the EV6 rear design is like that of a sedan, meaning it generally does not have a problem, but if it does get dirty so does every sedan, yet nobody complains of a sedan not having a rear wiper.
@Begreen9

@@EV-olution I repectfully disagree with this assessment. Cars are used in diverse environments. While some may not need a wiper in his situation, we do. Owning cars both with and without, the difference is apparent. Not every car lives a clean and shiny existence. And not every rear window stays clean, including on the EV6. In dusty environments combined with the misty dirt thrown up by truck off of wet roads, the rear window gets dirty. Our cars don't live anywhere near a car wash and they are not getting cleaned when it's 35º or below outside. They will stay dirty until March most likely. That's just life in the country. A rear wiper is appreciated and used.
@EV-olution
@EV-olution Ай бұрын
@@Begreen9 The point of this video is that the rear of the EV6 is like that of a sedan, which generally does not have a problem with dirt, rain, snow, etc. Sedans don't have a rear wiper and nobody complains about it. I live in the province of Québec in Canada, we get temperatures below -30C and tons of snow. Yesterday we got about 15cm of snow. The rear defroster of the EV6 does an excellent job of keeping snow fall from accumulating, even at slower driving speeds; in my video, the image of the back of the EV6 in the winter, with the rear of the car completely covered in snow but not the rear window, is my EV6 after driving in a snow storm. I have had my car for 2.75 years and over 92,000km of driving, and have never had an issue with the rear window becoming useless. If the snow is not cleared from the car before driving, then of course the rear window will get covered with snow, like with any vehicle. As for water, as mentioned in the video, a ceramic coat or a hydrophobic coating of your choice will improve the visibility in most conditions; I highly recommend treating the windows for any vehicle. Like I mentioned above, the point is not that the rear window is always perfect, it is that the EV6 rear window is like that of a sedan, is better than acceptable in most situations, and that nobody complains about sedans not having a rear wiper because it is better than acceptable in most situations. I think Kia went with a compromise for aerodynamics and better range. A rear wiper would screw up the air flow and reduce range due to being horizontal in the off position, plus it cuts on cost, and since it acts like a sedan they probably figured that is was the best way forward. I agree that a rear wiper would be nice in certain situations, like a heavy snow fall and backing into my driveway.

We love our 2022 Ioniq 5! While the dirty rear window is annoying during the winter we would not trade her in for one with a wiper. We live in Niagara Falls, NY and don't get as much snow and crappy driving conditions as the people that live south of Buffalo. I like to refer to Niagara Falls as the Miami of Western NY :). So while the gecko wiper is pretty cool, for us it is not a must. I hope it does well and hope it can be used for other cars that may suffer from the same I5 design flaw. I vote yes for the Plaid video! Thanks for a fun and informative video.

I am glad to hear that the missing rear wiper is not a problem for you. Funny thing, when I read your comment about Niagara Falls I was confused when you mentioned Buffalo because for me Niagara Falls are in in Ontario and are Canadian 😉. I also hope the Geck wiper works well and succeeds if it does. I think it would be a nice solution for a lot of people and even some who own the EV6. The Plaid video is going to have to wait until the spring because there is a lot of snow on the ground now, but it is noted. Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it.

Hello! I have had an EV6 since March 2024, I have 30,000 km on it and I do not agree with the fact that it does not need a rear wiper, the glass gets VERY dirty, it bothers me to see the dirty glass and when it rains a little the glass is full of drops, in January I would pass the wiper and it was solved, also when it snows and you are not going fast the snow accumulates. For me it is a big mistake not to have a rear wiper. There are solutions such as liquids so that it does not retain water or using the glass heater are temporary solutions and do not always work. I miss the rear wiper on the EV6.

My experience is not the same and I have not had visibility issues, nor does snow accumulate when I have the rear defroster turned on, unless it is snowing very hard, in which case all car rear windows get covered. The EV6 rear window acts essentially the same as a sedan, yet nobody complains about sedan rear windows, but I understand what you mean.

I have to say, I understand the desire for a wiper back there, but to my surprise, I haven’t missed it either. Although if snow builds up, it makes sense that at first one would like to have it cleared. Especially since in my experience, the sensors go wacky and the cameras can get iced over.

@@EV-olution I don't have much of a problem either. It is true that it can accumulate snow when you are not moving, but the wind flow helps alot. Also, when you do turn on the heating for the rear window, i find that the heat is actually quite strong as it melts pretty fast. Sure, it will get dirty when its dry, but i dont think enough to obstruct the view.

Different topic. Preconditioning the battery. I turned it on in the settings. I understand that #1 you must program a fast charge station in the KIA SATNAV for this to work? Even though it’s at on in the settings it won’t warm the batteries unless fast charge location is programmed. #2 my fast charge station is 15 minutes away, I guess that won’t be sufficient time to warm the batteries before charging at minus 10°C?? Any other options available to force preconditioning.
@EV-olution
@EV-olution 16 күн бұрын
Your understanding of the Kia/Hyundai preconditioning is correct. The option must be activated in the menu, as you have done. I suggest leaving it on all the time since it only activates when set and needed. The feature will not activate unless you set a DCFC station in the car's satnav system; The location must be far enough away for the preconditioning to activate, so 15 minutes away is not enough and you should not see the battery icon change if you try with that station. My very quick test showed that about 30 minutes away is the number that gets it to turn on. However, once you set it it may take 1 minute for it to activate and for the battery icon on your dash to change and show the weird symbol in it, indicating it is on. FYI, for any questions that are unrelated to videos, you can ask me directly on Facebook, either via personal (André Laurence), or via my EV-olution page.

@@michaeldolan7509 you can always simply set a DCFC that is further away as your destination, but go to the one that is closer to you. That way it will preheat the battery.

Hi, thanks for the videos. Got a question. I tried to plug my 2024 EV 6 in a 180Kwh station with both the SAE Combo and CHAdeMO connectors available and I couldn’t get either plug in. It says CSS on one and that is supposed to work. What am I doing wrong?
@EV-olution
@EV-olution 28 күн бұрын
The CHAdeMO will definitely not fit, so you can ignore those. The CCS Combo pistol will fit, just make sure to pull the plastic cover from the lower part of the port in the EV6 charge port. It is there to protect the lower portion when charging on a Level 2 (home) charging station. If you are unsure about what I mean, send me an e-mail and I will send you a picture. I know there are drivers that really get worked up about the “missing” wiper. I can see fine with the side mirrors when the rear window is dirty. My only peeve is that Hyundai implied that the fancy rear deflector on my Ioniq 5 would keep the glass clear. it doesn’t. But knowing that the trailing edge of a moving vehicle is where the most drag is created, maybe, just maybe, if it means I get a few more km of range then it’s a decent tradeoff.

I agree that it was silly of Hyundai to state that the rear spoiler would keep the window clean. The Ioniq 5 is impressive for efficiency considering its size, but I still wonder if a large-ish lip spoiler, below the rear window, would solve the issue, still look good, and not reduce the efficiency.

@@EV-olution ok, fair points, but it would make the resale value of the car a bit higher and it would also make it impossible to steal or damage the wiper (by vandals). With a removable wiper you'd basically always have to take it off if you park in the city... If the wiring is missing the functionality could still be solved in a similar way as this add-on wiper... if the car has bluetooth they could even let it communicate via the car system so you don't notice it functionality wise... But I suppose nobody would find this too big of an issue to create this... too expensive to solve... on the other hand, if it weren't an issue they wouldn't have released a new version with a wiper...
