I've said this 100 times. This sport went from a working class "good ole boy" throwing his bikes in the back of the truck and go racing, to a spoon fed homeschooled privileged upper class sport. Every year you are literally pricing 1000s of people out of new bikes. Stop building these "factory stock" bikes and just give us a stock bike, I'll throw mods on as I can afford them.

As someone who just got into moto at 23 solely because of money preventing me previously, this is not the way to go. We need 3500 msrp two strokes again and cheaper bikes all around. Do you guys not realize how hard it is to get new people into a sport that requires you to spend 10k+ for a brand new bike? The sports dying cause theres no new riders and anytime i try to talk to my buddies about getting bikes the number one factor that stops them is simply the PRICE. The sport will only continue to die the more expensive and niche it becomes.
@jeffgayzose8129

I agree, but that will never happen. 2 strokes are a headache to produce because for government regulations. Also to manufacture a 4k bike it would be so neutered compared to the 8k+ bikes most people would just choose to spend the extra money. Look at Apple, they cut their smaller cheaper phone because it didn't sell well compared to the more expensive bigger phone.

Real wages have either fallen for most people or remained relatively flat since 2001. Moreover, people have more claims against their incomes now that they did in 2001 as well - so for many finding the money for these types of sports / pastimes is a lot more difficult now than it was in the past. Wages are not keeping pace with the price of products - and were it not for credit / payment plans demand for motorcycles would be far worse. it has never been cheap to get into - but it's really starting to get out of reach for too many now. Using an inflation calculator is useless as well simply because technology and people's tastes, and preferences are not stable / fixed over time.

In 2017 I bought a Husky fe 501 dual sport for around $10,700. I was immediately unhappy with the power output on the bike. Once I started doing mods to the engine, I decided to go all out. Yeah, it's now a one of a kind bike putting out 67 hp at the rear wheel, but it cost A LOT!!! I feel like for the cost of bikes today, they should already be tricked out!

New factory turbo snowmobiles start at 20K and you only get maybe 6 months of riding a year, the side by side market is way way beond that even before people spend tons on add ons, people will buy a 25K bike, maybe not in huge numbers but they will sell

To put into perspective, a yz250f is like 8500-9k. A mt09 .... 650 more cc, only costs 9400. Mt07, 450 more cc, only 7400. Why spend more for something most people can only use on the weekends when you can have something you can commute and still have fun every day... 11k, that's almost a brand new 600cc Supersport. The difference in tech and quality, research and development between these comparisons, insane

I bought a 21.5 Husqvarna fc450 rockstar edition for $11.500, never even rode the bike before I dropped it at my suspension guy shop. Swapped out the WP crap for a KYB SSS spring conversion and revalved everything for a (155 lbs rider) including the shock. Tossed in a Rekluse radius cx auto clutch and put on a titanium header. Honestly it's the best bike I've ever ridden by a long shot. Was it worth the money, I'd have too say yes... No sense dying the richest fucker in the graveyard ! 🤘🏼

For 25k... that thing better be hand built, delivered in the race team semi, and come with so many spare parts i have to build a closet to keep it all in. I get the idea, and it's great for those who could afford it, but the MSRP of stock bikes even are why we're seeing fewer and fewer riders at the track. I'm fortunate enough that what I like doing in this sport I can afford and not worry about it, but a lot of these 9-5er's are selling everything because of how much it costs. In the Midwest, you're lucky to have 1 or 2 tracks relatively close, if not you're driving 2-3 hours just to go ride. A prepped practice day is up to $40, you burn a minimum of 1/2 tank of gas in your vehicle just driving, plus bike gas, and everything else. Its just becoming such a white collar/ high class sport that drives people away. Its so hard to justify buying a used bike too because you don't know whose hands have been in it, how it was really treated, you risk your few thousand bucks and might only ride it once and have to rebuild it. Idk, thats just my two cents, everybody has to make their money and with "inflation" everything is up twice as much as it used to be. I see this sport/ hobby decreasing in size before increasing and with it decreasing, these tracks have to keep upping the price to ride to make ends meet, 20 riders at 20 bucks used to be 400 and now that there's only 10 riders, the track owner has to make up for the 10 riders he lost keeping the gates open, now he's charging $40 to the 10 riders that showed up to make his 400 and he's still getting his ass handed to him because the cost of everything else is doubled. Rant over lol, needed to get that out

Of course the prices of bike are going to kill the sport. Used to be anyone could go and get a bike. When a bike is the price of a new car . I bought my first bike for $1500 and it was a little over a year old. I could buy 10 of those bikes now for the price of a new bike these days. My Ktm I have now was probably close to $12,000 new. Getting absolutely ridiculous

$10K motocross bikes killed modern motocross. No one that I know can afford to race anymore. For $5000 you can buy a vintage bike from whatever era that you want, race it with cheaper entry fees, cheaper maintenance, better tracks, safer tracks and ton's more fun racing. You have to be rich or crazy to race a modern bike.

I'm glad I bought my 2015 kxf250 in mid 2016 with low hours for 4k. It already had a local built custom suspension and other trick parts. Soon after the prices of new bikes started rocketing up. If we are going to have $25k bikes, we might need to rethink amateur racing and think in terms of amateur stock car racing where you race a class based on the equipment you are running than the skill you have. And I'm not talking about adding more classes. That works for MX-Sports but makes for long days and tiny classes at your average local race.
@ohiomoto
@ohiomoto Жыл бұрын
That said, the sport is still 90-99% rider so maybe the above comment is way off. It might be a fun discussion to have though. Running an event with 25-30 classes makes for long days. (For the record, I owned and operated a track that ran a few AMA Amature National Events.)

A lot of complaints about increasing prices, as if its the bike industry alone is gouging people. EVERYTHING is going up in price. Buy-in to any motor sport is nuts. Heck, any hobby will cost ya $10k to get really established. Want a new truck? Thats a small mortgage. Im not defending it, but its more of a global economic issue.
