For you people who feel the need to make crude remarks, this dog is so calm because he has a caring owner. Yeah, yeah, yeah.. this practice even grosses me out but when you lose a pet due to complication (a massive blockage) and you didn't know any better.. well it makes you think twice! for anyone who makes negative crude nasty remarks about someone who has so selflessly DevotedHands self to the love and care of animals, and to the support of animal owners, that love their animals… I would just say go find a better past time, go get a life, because what this doctor is doing, is trying to enrich the quality of life for pets, and their owners, and I for one am so deeply appreciative to know that he’s out there doing this. That said we have an English cream golden retriever, who has suffered horribly, absolutely horribly for almost a year with an ear infection that our vet doesn’t seem to be able to clear up, even though he has put us through so many expensive testing‘s and medication‘s, and still our Grady suffers with this to this day, and we try desperately to find some thing that will work… I am hoping that one of the videos I listen to today is going to help Grady, because we are at our wits end, and at our financial end… And that isn’t even to mention what Grady is going through. Thank you, Dr. Jones.

All dog owners should be thanking this guy. No, its not something any of us like to do but it saves our dogs from being seriously uncomfortable or scooting their butt on the ground to try and release the material themselves. It also saves us from paying someone else to do it for us. I am so grateful for these free tips.

Followed your advice to the letter and the results were just as promised. Dink was a little uncomfortable w my finger in his butt, but I was gentle and slow and he relaxed almost instantly. Found the glands and gently massaged them till I felt them empty, about two minutes. A little gross, but if you've ever changed a diaper this is a walk in the park. Not to mention, dink understands what happened and absolutely loves me more for the effort. Thanks for the great advice. I've subscribed and look forward learning more about caring for my pup.

Dr. Jones, thank you so much for having educated me to help my loved dog age well. I clean her ears with your suggested apple cider vinegar treatment, I give her glucosamine-chondroitin supplements, I feed her an easy digestible food, I walk her 3 times daily at her pace but always encouraging to walk a little faster and I massage her body before bedtime. I have also given her an occasional dose appropriate aspirin when she seems to have joint pain. Without ALL this information from your videos my dog Heidi would not have the best life. That dog is so chilled.It takes two of us to do my dogs glands.He hates it! Its amazing how many people think their dog has worms when they start 'Daleking' or 'scooting'.Its so easy to do & saves an often stressful visit to the vets & some money.Our local vet charges around £8.00 for a rubber glove,spot of KY & a tissue.Oh I suppose all of 2 minutes as well.! Id advise anyone whose dog gets this problem regularly, to at least try & DIY.Its so easy & if you cant manage it then its no big deal.

I'm so glad I watched this video. My kitty just went through an ordeal with her anal sacs and it made her really, really sick. She was also really constipated but she had stopped eating and drinking because her anal sacs were so impacted, and had to go in for an enema and then she stopped being able to urinate because of the inflammation from the procedures and it was just a mess. Anyway, you mentioned on your cat constipation video to give them ground flax regularly as well to treat the constipation so I was thinking of doing that already, but to know it also helps prevent anal sac problems too is just awesome. I really hope this helps her. Thanks for all your great tips!

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, here in England, only a vet may do an internal expression of anal glands. I tend to put my wee dog in a nice warm bath then express from the outside. Oh, and he gets brown rice in his home cooked food, plus vegetables, which helps keep his stools more firm. Ok, I confess…I’m a retired Staff Nurse. We older nurses are always big on bowels! Cheers, xxx

I've only been instructed on external expressing. But I really like the the first line instruction of flax seed and the hot compresses. Always remember, minimal treatment first, if that doesn't work, next step. But I think the compresses are necessary you may have to advance to external expression. My Yorkie had that problem. BTW it smells very bad. I've had many dogs that never required any of this. But, it could happen. If you are prepared, it could save you a large vet bill.

So my dog Ruger is about 10 years old now. He is still doing great. He had a leg injury a couple months ago. We still don't know what caused it, but it got bad really fast. Not broken bones but I noticed him limping one morning, called the vet scheduled an appointment, also I noticed swelling in his elbow. By that same night, the swelling has spread up to his shoulder and down to his paw. I took him to the ER at 11pm. We got it fixed with a strong antibiotic bcuz it was some type of infection but he still has a limp. With all that being said, he has a swollen anus. And my vet thinks it's bcuz I never got him neutered and his organs in that area are swelling (bcuz he is still producing testosterone) which in turn obstructs his colon. But bcuz of his recent injury and bcuz of his age my vet is worried about whether to do the neutering surgery or not. I hate feeling helpless like this. He's not in any pain bcuz of it but I worry about it getting worse. Any suggestions?

sweet dog - I have two golden retrievers who seem to have a regular problem with their glands - I have no problem expressing them - I do it very gently but it seems they may be clogged - the hot compress will unclog the glands? Then you express or does the compress express? I do it because I care about my girls - it seems they always bite their butt at night and I don't want them in their crate biting their but all night - I want them to sleep with out pain or irritation - so don't criticize.

I took dolly to the vets, he had all the test results, turns out yes it is a brain issue, she basically does not know where her legs are, he also agreed she will go down hill all the time, saying by the time she is 5yrs it will prob be time to make the decision. I have some strong cbd getting delivered soon and although their is no cure, i'm willing to try to see if it helps....we are in the process of finding a centre for a mri... hoping for a glimmer of hope they are wrong...she also never reacted with her eyes when the vet went near them, her eye sight is fine, she is like having a disabled child, i have to pick her up to take her out side because she can't/ won't try to get up or down stairs....

@chinookvalley8 жыл бұрын
+snowbird29803 My dog would scoot, or try to lick his behind, and each time it was his anal glands, not worms as many suspect. Some dogs just seem to have a harder time expressing their anal glands and then the glands fill up and can become infected and rupture. If your dog barks in a protective way oftentimes you will smell the anal fluid - a very stinky defense mechanism.

cellogirl11RW Have you expressed them yet? He will be so much happier. It is VERY uncomfortable for him. Be sure to add the ground flax seed to his diet for fiber to prevent this from reoccurring.

anal gland/sac expression is only indicated if your pet is experiencing a little "back up"/is unable to express his or her own glands naturally & normally. often, allergies can cause flare ups that cause the rectum to itch excessively, as well as the anal sac secretions to build up quicker than what would be normal for your pet. this would indicate a need to have the glands expressed. each pet is unique--some may never need it done in their entire lifetime, some may need it biweekly...I've yet to see an animal requiring more frequent expression than this, but I'll never say never! another common reason this is done is when the animal is obese, or has conformation that is non-conducive to natural expression. normal glands are expressed by the animal in small increments each time they defecate, greet another animal, or if very frightened, they tend to eject the full contents rapidly, much like a skunk. 🙄 yuck! expression is NEVER indicated as "routine", "just to empty them", etc.

Just so I understand, this should only be done if there is a problem ? Or should this be done routinely at every was? Videos seem to suggest this is a must but I wonder if they should only be emptied if infected?
