I was at UCR in the 80's and one night this band played at the barn and Michael Landau blew me away......cementing himself as one of my favourite guitarist...Only to now discover that one of my favourite drummers Vinnie C was also a part of it......damn... that night was pure magic........

2.32; one the greatest drum breaks in music history. Vinnie went on to do many great records, and he is one of the few musicians who kept getting better as he got older (although he's gone a little strange in the last 10 years), but the 80s was my favourite period of his. He had such fire and originality; a truly extraordinary musician.

I know what you mean, but 90s Vinnie was even more savage !!! Like from 89 ("Secrets", "Buddy Rich Memorial", and so on...)

@@RogerBiwandu Yup, agreed. Secrets in particular is an incredible record!

This band killed ! Fiery Westcoast fusion ! It's really too bad these guys couldn't get the time to record a album or two but back in the 80's they were all up to their eyeballs in sessions and tours with other artists and U couldn't pass up big money for a self produced and costly recording . I think time was their biggest issue . Landau and Colaiuta have a amazing chemistry - they are on the same page and bring the best in one another on many recordings and live gigs over the years . These dog cheese songs are amazing ! The few soundboard recordings from live shows are superb too .

Rlly sad how that worked out. I know they did what they had to do, But now it’s so easy to produce a basic “passion project” recording. But the interest in fusion is very niche.Still, Wish they could do even just a couple rerecordings.

Mike rocking them Bob Bradshaw rack tones to perfection. The best guitarist on the planet.
@lorenzmuller35427 жыл бұрын
soulrful terrain What are Bradshaw tones and how does Mike achieve these? He now uses chrous pedals, right?
@TheMrFunktastic26 жыл бұрын
it's basically fridge-sized rack mounts full of effects controlled by a switcher board on the floor. 80's stuff! Bob Bradshaw was the guru when it came to building and assembling all that stuff. If you go to Mike's page you'll see all that equipment that he used

If Chuck Norris was a drummer he would call himself Vinnie Colaiuta.
