Good almost afternoon. Got a late start today. Was Spring cleaning, and making beef roast with carrots and potatoes in the crockpot all day yesterday. Not bad for a 67 year old. Tomorrow will be laundry day at a friend's house, since I live in a small apartment. No room for washer or dryer. Gina, you make my mouth water every time you make something. Purple cabbage is my all time favorite; purple onions are another fav. Thanks, Al, for another interesting video. This is the channel I go to first. Good morning Lumnahs... yes! Gardening after the animals are cared for. I've been waiting for this for a while, only because this is my favorite channel and I'd like to see how you grow things in your neck of the woods. Here in Hawaii we have banana trees, mango trees, pineapple, lilikoi (passion fruit), papaya trees, and Hawaiian orange trees are the norm in some backyards. There's tomatoes, bitter melon, squash, zucchini, cucumber, eggplant, corn, and various cabbage and potatoes that grow well in our area. I'm very excited to see what you're growing in your garden. Let's do this victory garden together! Have a blessed day everyone 🤙

How about some tips on starting seedlings? I cut up plastic jugs into strips like plant stakes and apply my labels to those. These last for years, even the labels from my Brother label maker stand up to wet and weather with no signs of wear. Great use for old laundry jugs when empty. Rinse them out thoroughly and use the flatter side portions to cut out your stakes. A razor knife and metal ruler or heavy kitchen shears work well for cutting. I've also used the bottom portion of these jugs as starter trays for smaller quantities of seeds. Drill some holes for drainage and leave an 1" or 2" for depth. Cut out a 4" square of stiff paper. Fold over 1", then fold back 1" and fold back again. You should end with a folded paper that looks like the letter M in profile. Dump your small seeds into the trough of the M. You can now spread your seeds out better and using a toothpick of wooden skewer count out the number of seeds you want per cell very accurately. Hold the trough over the individual cell and the toothpick moves the seed(s) out one end and into the cell.

Hi, Steven. In November of 2019, I ordered 10 of those seed starting trays from HOSS TOOLS. After seeing how sturdy they are, I went back in December and ordered 10 more -- plus 20 of the water catchment trays. Yes, they are a bit spendy... but I do a lot of gardening and will never have to replace those flimsy trays again. You will not regret getting the trays! Good luck and Best wishes to you from Kate in Olympia, WA

All this compost prep, seed germinating, silage tarping going on across the various homesteads I follow is making me wax nostalgic for my basement red wigglers; best non-meat composters on the planet. With the Shepherd gone and living in a little white box, I have no garbage disposal and it *irks* me that I am unable to recycle all that good stuff back where it belongs! I am tempted to put a worm farm in the closet and another hiking partner is being sought. We'll see what the spring brings to the little white box... ;)

Potatoes can go in the ground now. They are a cold weather plant that grows under ground. You cover the top of the plants as they grow up, by pulling dirt up from around them with your hoe, which is called hilling them. I'm in Southwestern Virginia. Scrape up all of that wasted beautiful hay and either add it to your compost piles, or spread it thinly on your pasture. Everything is looking good! Gina, I’m impressed at how you dumped everything into that mason jar and made perfect mayonnaise! My grandmother taught me to drizzle the oil in slowly or that it wouldn’t make. Next time, I’m going to try it your way!

Not sure, but I think the trick was setting the cup of the immersion blender over the egg and holding it there. Basically she was whipping the egg and the oil was "drizzling" into the mixture through the openings in the immersion blender. Same principal, different tool.

Judging from the removal of the apple trees, I would guess either a high tunnel or a heated greenhouse. I live in Maine zone 5b. I have a small unheated greenhouse and am just now starting cool loving vegetables. Al and Gina are in 4a - they will need heat or have to use Elliot Coleman’s methods for growing in a cold climate.
