It's confusing she tells Jolene [little girl] that "you know I'd write it about [her]" but its not. [at least thats what it sounds like shes saying?] It's about some bank teller who tried to "take care" of her husband. But the clip never goes into detail about how she gets from point A [little girl with a beautiful name] to point B [homewrecking bank teller] its a strange story, at least how it's clipped here
@jollyquinn4302 жыл бұрын
Well, it doesn't explain it right in the video. If I wouldn't have known the whole story, I would've bee confused, too. In the video she says that she told that little girl:"If you'll ever hear a song named Jolene by me, then you know I wrote that song about you." That's a bit confusing. "About you" not "about your name" "inspired by your name". If I would never have heard the whole backstory and I'd just knew that Dolly told a girl named Jolene:"I'll write a song about you", I wouldn't think the name is the only thing Dolly wrote about the young girl in the song. (Sry for my bad English. It's not my first language)

I absolutely love Dolly Parton I can't say I listen to her music or watch any show she's in or know much about her but I feel like anytime I see her in an interview she is the sweetest most down to earth person ever and she just seems like she's such a lovely person.

“Jolene” could last as a folk song for hundreds of years. It is an incredible achievement. Listen to it if you haven’t. Ethnomusicologists publish popular analyses please.

when i was in about nursery school (literally the grade before pre-k, like 2-3 year olds), my grandpa would pick my and my friend up so we could head over. we both insisted on listening to dolly parton in the car. my absolute favorite was “jolene”. for what reason? i don’t know. i think my two year old brain said, “hey, that’s a pretty damn good song!” it’s still my favorite to this day 🥰
@4luv2cuppycake02 жыл бұрын
The reason it's probably most recorded is because of all the cheating men and all the heartbroken women that can relate to this song

By your thinking I should like this song but I've always effin' hated it on every level. Hate the tune, hate the name, hate the pleading with the other woman.

I saw a different video of her when she’s way younger live , and she said Jolene was a red headed hussy who worked at the bank, trying to take her man. And Jolene whooped her ass but dolly kept her man lol

Why are people not understanding this?? The song IS about the red headed hussy at the bank but Dolly didn't use her real name. She decided to use "Jolene" after that encounter with the little girl.
