The costs there are consistently lower compared to here in the States. You can enjoy a full meal while an avocado costs $5 at my local corner store.

@@DelightfulTravellers depends where you live and shop in the US, our local farmers market in Florida has prices that are actually equal to or lower than yours quoted! Also we pay far less for the mortgage on our home that sits about 6 miles from the ocean in southern Florida! I think the higher prices are what you state cause its a tourist area, where inland with locals its cheaper, but crime might be higher! All said we do enjoy your videos showing off areas! We've been to the DR about half a dozen times, mostly to the northern coast which we like much more than the southern coast! The east coast is incredibly expensive!

@@bobbear4437 It so depends yeah. Fruits and Veggies are wildly cheaper there. Things like wine are more pricey than the states. Restaurant prices might be the biggest difference though. Drink prices alone in the states are quite costly - Trevor

Loved your video. A lot of development in Cabarete and North Coast. Playa Encuentro is developing quite a bit too. Janet’s is also building another grocery store in Cabarete across from Gorditos taco. Just got back…..stayed at Cabarete Palm Beach Condos just down the alley from the new construction you were stood at. Love the place. Saw you on the beach a couple of times, didn’t like to intrude. Met some people at the place you’re staying…..which was on my list, and will be for when i return. Enjoy, what’s not to! Grab a pizza at the place up Calle de la loma…..good prices and good food, although the power went out while I was there due to a storm, but what a fab experience!!

I have to agree with you both on Canada. I travel back from Germany yearly and I have noticed the changes in cost of living. Twenty years ago I found that things in Germany were more expensive, especially after they adopted the euro but since then the prices increased at a much slower rate than in Canada. I could not afford to move back nor do I want to. I did however find some affordable places on Baffin Island. I just need to learn how to hunt. I have also been to the DR about 8 times and am considering on moving to either Sosua or Puerto Plata.

Sorry but those Janet's prices are ridiculous for Dominican standards even though things are now clearly more expensive since the C virus but still those are clearly expat prices. Local Dominicans shop at Jumbo, Ole, La Sirena or Plaza Lama for the best prices. EL National or EL Bravo, don't have great prices but have the best qualify and variety and lots of American, South American, and European Imports.

Everyone in Cabarete knows that Janet's prices are quite a bit higher than other 'big' grocery stores. That's a no brainer. For us to drive 1 hour to Jumbo in PP makes no sense. We will shop at those spots and Playero in Sosua when it makes sense though - Trevor

Great Video guys!!! I really want to get to Cabarete to give it a try. We usually go to Las Terrenas but for retirement I think Cabarete is a bit cheaper. We to love shopping at the local markets for the fruits and veggies. So cheap compared to home even with the exchange on the US dollar. Plus I know it is very fresh. You can't even compare it to what we get here in Ontario. Looking forward to future videos guys!!!

Although I work across different provinces and territories in Canada I am based in Ottawa . I can confirm that fruits vegetables, rice and bread are much cheaper in Ottawa compared to Punta Cana. I was in Punta Cana in September and I was shocked at how expensive things were. I have not been to other places in the Dominican republic so I can only speak for Punta Cana. I am currently located in Whitehorse in the Yukon and the prices here are comparable to Punta Cana. I prefer to travel where my money goes further so the DR did not do it for me. Cabarete is a far cry from Miami. When people compare things like this it doesn't make sense because you need to compare apples to apples and not apples to plantains. The people of a developed country earn much more than those here and enjoy much better support systems. There is no welfare here, very few have a pension scheme, and the list goes on, but developers want you to pay almost what you would now for a place on the beach as you would in other places where labour costs are higher...and this creates social ills because Dominicans are being out-priced out of their homes and have to travel further to earn the same pesos. Think about the damage many expats are creating😢

Awesome to see you guys are back! Wife and I just bought a really cool older house down the road in Kite Beach. We’re fixing it up and gonna be doing an apartment or surf lodge there. Hopefully we see you around town sometime! Would be great to get together and share tips on spots as we’re learning so much about our new home but there’s always something we didn’t know. Cheers!
