New Zealand isn't a bilingual nation though. We are an English speaking nation. We have some people here that speak all languages of the World. There's probably more people here than Maori, that speak Samoan, Indian, Dutch and Chinese. This woke Maorifacation of our News, Government departments...is just further pushing people apart, it's making information unreadable and out of reach for most of society in New Zealand, as well as those outside of NZ trying to listen and read our News...I have friends that just unplug now, and don't bother. If the locals don't get it, they certainly don't. Just tune out and the information that needs to be heard, is lost. My friends and I now turn to Australia to get our news.

Good point Sean, I understand I have no rights on a Marae, I would not dare to speak or make any statement on a Marae...it's a given. So please don't hold up due process at council meetings that elected officials are paid for by EVERY rate. payer they are paid to work on our behalf that should be a given. I don't mind stating my race, what I find very irritating, and I express this to those from government with these forms, is that these days they do not include my race. My mother was from clan Ross, my father from an English Law Lord. So I am British, like a large portion of Kiwis, but I am unrecognised and have to tick "other". I am not European, although if I could trace my paternal ancestry further back than 1750 then eventually there must have been a Norman, going by my surname. I am not Caucasian as I don't trace back to the Caucasus region, nor asia. While some may argue that Caucasian simply means a white person, and going far enough back I must be Caucasian, well going far enough back we are all Africian aren't we?

Race has nothing to do with it, it comes down to personal responsibility, simple really.

It's not a prayer , they only call it that to make it sound 'harmless' and familiar, it's an incantation and calling on the ancestors for 'guidance , protection', great for maori but many other faiths do not call on the dead it is forbidden which is why many don't want it in public spaces, unless people are permitted to leave first, but then maori would be 'offended' so keeping it completely secular is the only solution

A government using the words genetically superior about a particular race is wrong. It's not true. It's offensive and insulting to other races. Asking for a prayer to be removed from government business is not racist, its trying to keep it secular. In saying that, a Karakia is not religious it's cultural. If everyone agrees then imho it can be appropriate for government business in terms of just wishing for good business and a good result type thing. Im going to say this once, to keep saying there's no full blooded left, as a reason, is not a good thing to be repeating, if you do, Maori will feel threatened and it will make it worse. Do you have proof of no full blooded Maori alive? What is that evidence? Because in the mid 90s i had my English teacher say that, whilst my full blooded Maori Koro( grandfather) was at home. I couldn't care what she thought but it shows she was wrong.

Always the mono culture bent get as much support as you can makes little or no difference racist certain maybe non secular perhaps but continuing resistance to any Maori ideas or practices we get you its mono culture like you're Tupuna who continue to break and show no respect for Maori nothing changes maybe you're gonna take advantage when it suits you for our / your identity and international recognition Used to be proposed as an egalitarian heaven unless you ever managed to or bothered to put light on it. Yeah/Nah

Don, stop using a Maori word to specify a group of citizens of this nation who are not Maori, it's racist and derogatory. It is similar to the now obligatory greeting in Maori by police officiers who then go on to speak with me in normal English. At best it is woke, at worst racist. It tells me that the person will speak to me in English but first they must display what they consider the superior language, so I know my place.

I'm sure there is some Maori science behind this, that will enlighten us all, Like I'm sure we will all be better off if we follow the Maori ways of doing things.

We are all Maori in the linguistical sense. Just like we are all tangata whenua.

I support the Karakia. Why is Mayor Jepson and Don Brash making a big deal about it. What’s the drama about the Karakia.

It's the time it takes up and that time is meant to be used for council business, the only blessing needed is for the work to be done for the tax/rate payers. Simple.

If you don't know then learn about the foundational faith of this commonwealth Nation, Tikanga Christ with Mana of the Christian Queen and her predecessors forever. Defenders of the Gospel of God's law not the tribal cruelty of the jungle, the Chiefs abandoned that and left a legacy of speeches and principles you should read them.
