my "oldfield story".. u of indiana T&F last chance meet.. off to the side of the shotput ring, Brian is holding court. U of Iowa thrower is asking rapid fire questions, prefacing each one with , "well, i think.... Brian gave the best advice i ever heard...Son, you know what your problem is? YOU THINK TOO MUCH and YOU THINK WRONG. just get in the damn ring and throw the SoB....do the thinking on the sideline......like you said Brian's voice carried all over the field..every heard turned. poor Iowa thrower was embarrased like all getout and was looking for a hole to crawl in... but the advice was spot on..

Should the left leg in the end of the power position stay straight and the right leg bent, or both bent or both straight?straight

viciogames so as you enter into the power position, the left leg is slightly bent. The right leg has a big bend to it. All of the weight of the upper body should stay back over that bent right leg.

Question. My coach used to tell me to step in the bucket, and the bucket is in the middle of the circle but in this video you was landing some inches past the middle. So you don't necessarily have to land in the middle? I have a client that lands where you landed and sometimes he lands like that just fine but then other times he'll land in the same area but his left foot would hit the top of the toe board. I know you should get as close to the toe board as possible but I always thought the closer your right foot lands in the middle the less likely you'd hit the toe board. I'm sort of confused on what he's doing wrong for him to land like that sometimes instead of all the time

This might be a long explanation, maybe something for a different video, but here is how I explain it. When your client does a standing throw/power position throw, where is his right foot? More than likely it is not in the middle of the circle. It is just inside the front half of the circle. So if that is where he puts his foot so he can deliver the most amount of force with his legs, why not land in that same spot when he does a full throw? Why try to aim for the middle of the circle when that is either going to leave him short of the front or open his legs too wide where he can’t produce the maximum amount of force? Now the whole stepping on the toeboard issue could be from a variety of different things that has nothing to do with landing in the middle. He could be opening up too early causing him to step and throw. He could be reaching with his blocking foot instead of putting it down on the circle. He could have his blocking foot too high as he drives across the circle causing him to fall and step on the toe board. Could be a number of things. Bottom line, get his power foot to land in the same spot as when he does a standing/power throw.

@@EliteThrowsCoaching that's the thing though. If a line is drawn in the middle of circle and he does a standing throw he steps on the line. That's what has me confused. But if he does a full rotation he lands past the line. So I should pay more attention to what he's doing before his right foot lands?

@@northalabamathrowsclub3268 how tall is this guy? I have had throwers well over 6’3 to 6’7 that don’t step on the line in the power position. Something is wrong with the set up or he’s well over 6’5. Either way the right foot in the full should be at or very close to where it is in the power position.

@@northalabamathrowsclub3268 wow yeah. Way too wide. Feet should be as wide or just a bit wider than if he was to squat or jump.
