Donna never looked like a man. She was beautiful, slender, and petite. Donna was a beauty and she could have easily been a model, but instead she decided on a music career and i am glad she did. Who ever started that rumor was malicious and jealous about everything that Donna represented her voice and looks, her slender build and petite frame, and her georgous face.

The music industry was threatened by Donna. She was outselling white rockers and dominating the pop charts. I think she had the best voice in music. She was the first true female superstar that had mass appeal. She was a beautiful woman and of course, that meant she had to be taken down by the people that hated seeing her succeed. Stupid rumors like this plagued her. Also, she started singing Love to Love You, Baby back in concerts starting in around 1999.

I totally agree with you. I think that Diana Ross was a major super star of that era but her rise to fame was gradual while DS was a meteoric rise and I do believe that white rockers resented her powerhouse fame, voice and talent. I remember in school how the white rocker kids who had a very narrow and compartmentalized view of music would try to stigmatize the power of her music and disco in general.

I had the honor of meeting Donna Summers in the mid 90’s . I was in my early 20’s working at Neiman Marcus. Ms. Summers was absolutely stunning. One of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen. Plus her personality was as beautiful as she was. She was 5’7 with heels on so she was over 6ft tall easily. In no way did Donna Summer look like a man. For those who said she did were very jealous of how beautiful she was. Pictures don’t do her justice. Rip. Such a beautiful person gone to soon. ❤️

@@Nstar365 It has nothing to do with needing to. The "needing to" part has nothing to do with it. It enhances her brand of fun, amusement and pleasure that she can provide (I do not mean this mainly in terms of sex). Folks in America like to make everything boring for some reason, probably just because that is the way for of in which the politics are set up, as it has only gotten worse over time. Disclaimer-I owned all of Donna Summer's albums, had posters of her on my bedroom walls, and I was absolutely aroused by the talk of her being a man. I did not take it over-the-top literally, just that she has got some of the robust features, power jerks in her steps and pulls, plus rough-and-tuck skin, yet that is still femininely smooth and female-scented. There is no question that Donna Summer is way more feminine than say a Whoopi Goldberg, yet she would be better able to protect me from Whoopi, if I was with her, and Whoopi just all of the sudden came at me to land a sucker punch, than the average woman like say a Megan Fox or a Tracee Ellis Ross in such respect could.

Your commentary was excellent!!! I was there! I was born in 1960! So when LTLYB Came out in 1975-1979 I went from 15yrs old to 19yrs old. In High School I was class of 1978. And as Latinos and Disco WAS ON THE POP CHARTS!! Like RAP-HIP/HOP IS NOW! That's all you heard on the radio. And that's ALL WE HAD WAS A RADIO!!! AND VINYL, CASSETTE & 8TRACK TAPES! Donna Summer was our "BEYONCE"! She was my first concert at 16yrs old. And every time she had a tour she would to Miami my town. I would see her comes twice! She is my favorite SINGER STILL OF ALL TIME. from 1976-2009 I saw her in concert over 50X. Her voice is operatically trained in Vienna. She has the Guinness book of world record longest note held on a top ten peak at #2 song: for 17Seconds for " DIM ALL THE LIGHTS! She loud and effortlessly with ease & a breathing control uncanny unnoticeable, what a pair of lungs. When singing MacArthur Park(My favorite) And the duet with Barbra Streisand was a vocal powerhouse of Female Capacity never heard before or anything like it afterwards! Called NO MORE TEARS/ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. l have everything she has ever recorded all 19albums & special Dance Remix & Ballads & Ballad movie themes & she wrote original gospel Songs on compilation albumsl of course I have to have them! She made my teenage 20s & 30s & 40s VERY HAPPY! Her last mini performance was in 2010 with DAVID FOSTER. & FRIENDS "THE HIT MAN" a DVD& CD. IT IS EXCELLENT! One last thing that bugs me. There has always been Dance Music since the beginning of time! And every decade. But it was called a different name. And didn't dominate the pop charts like the 70s&80s & middle America resented it! I LOVE YOU DONNA FOREVER! PROBABLY SINGING TO THE LORD NOW! Sincerely yours, AL Garcia from Miami.btw you're style of commentary is very pleasant to the listener! Thought about having your own show or Journalism!

I NEVER believed those stupid rumors about what she supposedly said about our LGBTQ community either. It's sad how she's still doesn't get her just recognition as a true artist and singer because she could literally sing just about anything and had many other talents. She broke many barriers. I didn’t know people accused her of being a man…She was absolutely beautiful. It’s upsetting, because as you noted it still happens today. There are a group of KZbinrs who like to do videos claiming certain black female celebrities are actually male (Serena Williams, Angela Bassett, Michelle O…). Serena Williams has been attacked via the media as well…very hurtful. I don’t understand the agenda, but it’s unfortunate. But just with any lie, that’s what spreads and many people want to believe that. I remember reading The Narrative of Sojourner Truth, and she too was accused of being a man…In order to prove she wasn’t, she showed her breast at one of her speaking events, and reminded those men that her breasts were what fed their children. Sad…she shouldn’t have had to prove anything…no woman should.

Spring Affair was the Bomb‼️ It came out, just as I was being sent to Germany, in late 1976. She was based in Munich, in the State of Bavaria (München, Bayern). Married Helmut Sommer, father of Mimi. After the divorce, she anglicised, the German name, Sommer to Summer. I bought that 1st album, released in the U.S.(Love To Love You-late 1975) (1st album, in Europe, was "Lady of the Night") ; and the poor photography and German-styled make-up, DID make her seen like a drag queen ; HOWEVER, the subsequent albums & the Ebony Magazine coverage of her and family, including an almost identical younger sister, removed all doubt‼️ She and Mimi were on the cover of Ebony. She later married, Italian, Bruce Sudano.... father of her other children. He's the policeman, on the album cover of the "Bad Girl" double album. She had an operatic voice. Learned German quickly & was a member of the Munich Light Opera, after appearing in the German-language, hit stage play "Hair". Those early albums displayed German make-up artistry and German fashion couture. On my free weekends ; I headed south to München, because of Donna Summer & Silver Convention (their hits "Fly Robin Fly" ..... "Dancing In the Aisles of a 747", etc ). That's where she and her producer, Giorgio Moroder, were based. The Club Cadillac & The Yellow Submarine (club shaped like an actual submarine‼️ We both returned to the USA, about the same time, early 1978. I remember, that she sang a few bars of "Love To Love You, Baby" for Dick Clark, on American Bandstand, IN GERMAN‼️👍 She was Sooooo versatile❗ Check out her 2008 album " Crayons"..... she even sings the blues, but, "I'm A Fire" & "Drivin' Down Brazil" 🔥 Not to forget the 1982 hits "Finger On The Trigger & State of Independence"‼️‼️‼️ Hidden platinum masterpieces..... CHECK THEN OUT ❗ That last album, "Crayons" shines ; because, she was already deathly ill ; but, you won't hear it, in her artistry‼️👍💪💔🙏 Munich is my favorite big European city ; because, of DONNA SUMMER‼️♥️ Rest In Paradise.

Donna was amazing and fresh from the on start . Hearing Love to Love You in 1975 was so new and breathtaking that it just blew everybody away, even those people that swore they hated it. It was not a song to be ignored!! My favorite songs by her are mostly her early disco albums. I can still listen to her first five albums constantly to take me out of a funk or if I’m in the mood to dance. She did a version of Andrea Boccelli’s hit, Con te Partiró in the 2000s that I find truly beautiful and the voice is still in tact. That’s what’s so amazing about her, that her voice always remained so pure and expressive and the emotion that she transmits through her songs is so poignant. As for the Adam and Steve controversy, if it’s really a rumor then shame on the person who created it because that really hampered her career from continuing in the same force that it began. It coincided at a time where she became a born again Christian and those people were so heavily opposed and vocal against the LGBTQ+ community that by not addressing it, it seemed like she was complicit. It was hurtful and perceived as a betrayal to a community that so worshipped her. She waited way too long to address that and when she finally did, it seemed dishonest.
