The churches should have to pass a type of a mental capacity test to keep their tax-exempt status, and update it every two years. And they should also get it revoked for interfering in politics or for overt racism. That last one might be a tough call, a matter of opinion. But sometimes it's pretty obvious.

@julienielsen3746 just stop "medium brown"... pls DARK skin is a dominant gene, it is the most dominant expression. And dominant genes are always first, it is when mutations happen or people break away from the equator that recessive genes appear. And because recessive genes are degenerative in humans and every other species, it historically makes no sense as to why the first people even biblically/theological weren't black. Coupled with the fact that Africans have been around for SOO long there's more genetic variation amongst each other's neigborhooring country's than with any other race outside Africa, including white people. This is all searchable.

The honest truth is, the white members would have made a HUGE problem out of it at that time. My great uncle (we're Tongan) was serving an LDS mission in Fiji in the mid 50's and on his mission, the Fijians could hold the Priesthood. (Fijians are black) my great uncle wrote in his journal that he had approached the Mission President and asked him "How come over here, they can hold the Priesthood but not in your home country? (USA)" The mission president looked at him and said, "In all honesty, my people (white members) in the US, the gentiles, are too stubborn and prideful of a people at this time to accept it. They would cause havoc and division and possibly bloodshed within the church considering the civil unrest over there at this time, and the church leaders do not want to risk having chaos. As bad as it is, it is the greater of the two choices for the time being. The members of the church have quite a while until they wise up and unify as equal children of God. Just like you folks here (Polynesians) in the Pacific do. When that happens, all men who are worthy will be able to receive the Priesthood authority. Until then, my people have a lot of self-improvement to make. I pray that God gives them the enlightenment needed to realize this and move forward." When I read this, I was shocked. I have a pretty good idea. I grew up in the pacific northwest of the US and have been with three Jack-Mormon girls whom were all constantly, but subtly pressured by their bishops and family to come back. Guilt trips, fear mongering, promises, judgments, harassing family members, lies, and those creepy plastic smiles were just a few ways they TRY to keep people that leave Mormonism from cutting ties. I've seen and heard it first hand (phone calls on speaker, being in another room, etc.).

I love how Marie says of a woman, "As far as speaking her mind, that should be the man's job." So It's the man's job to speak the woman's mind. I guess because he decides what she is to think, so instead of asking the woman what she thinks, just go straight to the source: the man.

Oh wow! I just happened on this video and I'm blown away! As a former member of this church I have to speak up. First of all I left the church of my own free will, (I had my name removed from the rolls) because I couldn't stand the stance any longer on how the church feels about blacks and the LGBT community. As a straight Christian woman, I believe we are all God's children and we don't have the right to be judging someone else if they have done nothing to offend us or hurt us in some way. I don't want to have to explain to God why I judged someone who did nothing to me. I don't like racism and bigotry. Children of gay couples are not allowed to be baptized before the age of 18 simply because of their parents and what the church perceives as its business. When a church says Blacks can't hold the priesthood yet the church will take their money in tithes and not allow them in the temples, something really wrong here. I can't believe Donnie doesn't know the reason Blacks can't hold the priesthood. Well one reason of many is, the church believes that Blacks are of Satan! Complete BS of course but that is one reason. Again, the church will let them be members and take their money thru tithes. Can't be too bad then if they are actually allowing them in the churches! And Marie!? Allowing another to speak and think for you!? Seriously? This is what happens when you're brought up with a certain belief and never question it!

That's nice but we are not all Gods children. Even the Bible calls some children of the devil. only people who have received Jesus are Gods. And there is righteous judgment as well. The bible said that we will judge angels one day so why come we can't judge small matters. Meaning judge them right and Godly. God loves gay people but hates the sin of it and no sin will be allowed in heaven at all. God judged the sin of being gay a long time ago and His judgment is righteous always. we have gay people in my church and they are welcomed and loved but can not teach or run anything in the church. God never set up space for that. We have to be Godly in all matters which does not mean hating someone but being Godly always still the same because we can't jump on the bandwagon and say anything goes and say we are Christians. Treat everyone in a manner befitting Christ but never say something is right when it is wrong in God's eye.

@@giftedandblack494 Sorry but I no longer believe in the bible. I've read it. It was written over a very long period of time by many men with differing perspectives and beliefs. This is why so many are confused by the bible or better yet, and I love this one, it can be translated in many ways by the individuals who read it. The bible has been translated who knows how many times in how many languages and anyone who understands languages knows that much is lost in translation. But that doesn't shut down the fact that it was written by so many with all their differing opinions. I am a straight white woman who accepts everyone of any race or sexual orientation. Why? Because they are human beings. Being gay is not a choice any more than being straight is a choice. If your church doesn't allow it's gay members to do church work than there is something very wrong there! Yes people can take on the ways of the devil after birth and that's for various reasons. Did you know there are some animals in this world that are "straight"?

Well, Marie divorced her first husband. Maybe the reason, she couldn't speak her mind at the time. Got married again to another guy. Most likely learnt to speak her mind in that marriage, which most likely ended because of it. Remarried her first husband, and things look like it's working out better, because both partners can speak their mind now. Also, back then, not sure how she would've felt about gays, but now, she don't care. Marie said SO WHAT IF MY DAUGHTER IS GAY. My neighbor is a Mormon. She told me that in their church, they say that a man can be sealed to as many women as he wants, but a woman can only be sealed to one man. Let me get this right. So, is Marie sealed to her first and second husband, but Marie is only sealed to one of them? If married twice, which one? I mean I heard that their church really don't believe in divorcing people, even though they gave Marie one back then. Anyway, does anything about their religion make sense to you? I didn't know that God favors white people over black people, and does not want a black person to be a Priest. Not in any Bible I know of, that God said he didn't want blacks in the priesthood. I didn't know that in Heaven there is 3 kingdoms. The Mormons are on the top kingdom, and can go visit people in the 2nd and 3rd kingdoms, but people in the 2nd and 3rd kingdoms can not go up to the top kingdom, nor see or be with God. "EVERY KNEE" Shall Bow Before Me. I think everyone will see God. Not just the people, that are in that one true religion, that the Mormons claim they are. There is only one Heaven and one hell. Not 3 kingdoms and an outer darkness.

Racial discrimination policy under Brigham Young After Smith's death in 1844, Brigham Young became president of the main body of the church and led the Mormon pioneers to what would become the Utah Territory. Like many Americans at the time, Young (who was also the territorial governor) promoted discriminatory views about black people.[5] On January 16, 1852, Young made a pronouncement to the Utah Territorial Legislature, stating that "any man having one drop of the seed of [Cain] ... in him cannot hold the priesthood and if no other Prophet ever spake it before I will say it now in the name of Jesus Christ I know it is true and others know it." A similar statement by Young was recorded on February 13, 1849. The statement-which refers to the Curse of Cain-was given in response to a question asking about the African's chances for redemption. Young responded, "The Lord had cursed Cain's seed with blackness and prohibited them the Priesthood." In the Journal of Discourses, Brigham Young said: "You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild, and seemingly deprived of nearly all the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind . . . Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been killed, and that would have put a termination to that line of human beings. This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin," (Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 290). "In our first settlement in Missouri, it was said by our enemies that we intended to tamper with the slaves, not that we had any idea of the kind, for such a thing never entered our minds. We knew that the children of Ham were to be the "servant of servants," and no power under heaven could hinder it, so long as the Lord would permit them to welter under the curse and those were known to be our religious views concerning them," (Journal of Discourses, vol. 2, p. 172). "Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so," (Journal of Discourses, vol. 10, p. 110).

aww how sweet , reverently put marie! and the more part of the story is this, due to the severe persecutions the church was receiving for giving the priesthood to the blacks in the early days, we had to wait for those who hated them to thin out, to reinstate what we had already been doing. I remember one white master saying, I wont have my slave have any authority over me in the priesthood or anything else, for example. Glad you guys finally came around, for only in America the blacks couldn't have the priesthood, but they were receiving it in other parts of the world.

Wow! Did she really just say it's the _man's_ job to speak his mind? CRINGE. This is one of the reasons I _love_ the Jesus of biblical Christianity. He gave women _equality._ He gave them value and worth. He gave them prominence. Another characteristic I love so much about Jesus is his compassion for women; how he was always reaching out to heal them or help them in their time of need, as well as coming to their defense from the bullies of his day: the Pharisees, the Jewish religious leaders, and demons: -Mary Magdalene -the woman at the well -the adulterous woman -the woman bent double 18 years -Martha and Mary -a widow's only son -a Phoenician woman -a woman with chronic bleeding -a twelve year old girl He never beat them, never shunned them, and he never made them walk behind him. Jesus respected women, and he loved them, with a _pure_ love, not a selfish, self-serving "love." Jesus was, and is, a _true_ gentleman. Sadly, however, alot of women and teenage girls don't realize these things about Jesus, either because: they've never read the Bible (or haven't read it in a really long time) they've listened to the lies others have told them about Jesus they've suffered abuse by men (fathers, clergy, boyfriend or husband) they've been hurt by those professing to be Christians (we're not all like that though) My hope and prayer is that every teenage girl or woman who reads this post, will pick up a Bible and read the gospels, from Matthew all the way to John (over and over and over again), and will discover, for themselves, the true God, the living God, Jesus Christ; the one who died on the cross for your sins and mine. I look forward to meeting you in Heaven one day, but you must be born again. Right now, because after death comes judgement (Hebrews 9:27). Maranatha! "Unpopular the Movie" (28:55) This is a wonderful documentary that presents the gospel of Jesus Christ in under 30 minutes. I've seen it seven now, and I highly recommend it.
