I used to spend 3 hours in traffic in PH going to multiple ATMs that were out of cash. Total nightmare. Never experienced that in any other country. Moved to Cambodia and got a local bank account in 15 minutes, and Visa card printed in 10 minutes, and a free app with QR that everyone uses for transactions. The Philippines is falling behind. It will never catch up, sadly.

When travelling, those backup methods run out fast. Try to have several. Both my Cambodian banks blocked my purchases in Thialand last month, even though I told both where I was going before I left. It's a hassle.

I always tell people, keep your wallet in your front pocket........Do Not Ever put your wallet in your back pocket, it could possibly slip out while sitting down or you could get pick-pocketed in a crowd. If you wear shorts all the time, try and find some with zippers on the front pockets. If you are coming from the U.S. get yourself a Charles Schwab debit card, you will save a ton of money by avoiding ATM fees.

Yeah, it would be a good idea to have alternate and split up Debit and Credit cards...ATM/Debit cards aren't as secure/not as much protection as Credit Cards. The money from debit cards comes straight out of your account and is really up to the bank to deal with and any discrepancies, even though it is a VISA or Mastercard, it's really not the same. Credit Cards have more protections and the charges are "on credit" so they don't directly hit your account. The credit card companies and VISA/MC will act faster. Good & Bad you can add the cards to your smartphone wallet as well, but don't rely on that alone in the case you lose your phone. I recently got a Fidelity Debit Card as it also covers foreign charges...Great advice though!

When I am there, I use World Remit and transfer to myself 500 each time for pickup at any Palawan. I have done it at least 15 times over the years and each transaction has taken less than 5 minutes. Cost is $2.99 per transaction. I do not know if there is a maximum. Excellent video. Thanks.
@jons493424 күн бұрын
You transfer to yourself where exactly? You need to be a Filipino citizen usually to open a Gcash or bank account over there.
@vgwalldecals24 күн бұрын
@jons4934 you transfer as a cash transfer not as a bank deposit. All you need is an ID.
@jimscholz299724 күн бұрын
There is a Palawan Pawn shop in just about every decent sized town. You just send money from one of your accounts back home over to yourself via the World Remit system.. Works the same as Western Union...
@jimscholz299724 күн бұрын
I send her money every week via World Remit... Takes 1 mintue to set it up and she can pick it up usually seconds after I authorize the transfer. Other outfits like Zoom and Remitly do similar business....
@brentstrippin886724 күн бұрын
That sounds like a great solution. Thanks for sharing!

I send money to myself in 200usd transfers through western union. I just go get the cash as needed. I have a list of the transfer info with me ( looks like phone numbers in my notes). If I don't use all if the transfers, I cancel when I get back to the states. I have the app and with a VPN I make transfers from Chicago" any time.

You can buy a Skype phone number in order to call US phones directly. Which will be easier for you to call your bank. You still have to keep a regular US number using a sim in order to receive texts from your bank.

Not the only choice google voice with US number works for texts and calls.. You do have to have a legit US cell number when signing up.

How's it going Brent? I've been here in the Philippines almost 3 years and I never use my ATM or credit card unless I'm purchasing a plane ticket or rooms for vacation. I always transfer myself money once a month and sometimes I might need a little extra so I'll send myself what I need and definitely have more than just 1 account. As far as your drivers license here, it's so easy to transfer to a Filipino one. If you have a vehicle license with motorcycle they'll give you the exact same thing. No test only filling out paperwork. I'll be heading back to Texas in September. Anyways take care my friend and safe travels retuning home to America.

Don't use credit/debit card anywhere that doesn't have CCTV.. Likewise, don't use/take your cellphone out anywhere without CCTV.. if they have CCTV they will 100% be honest and return your belongings. They don't want any trouble with the police here.. Brent is right, cash is KING and have several different methods of access. Keep those methods secret at all cost. Most of these vloggers over here are risking a lot by telling you what they do and how they do it. Show them respect for sure.
