I’m deaf, so thanks to Closed captions I was still able to learn all about the Arby’s engine and the Arby’s cooling system. Glad that you have the meats Edit: thanks for the upcoomies, but the real hero here is the sandwich company that makes such an impressive engine

Stuffs super helpful either way, it's so much cheaper to fix things yourself as long as you know what you're doing, always helps to have a mechanics manual on the pc or better yet print out the section on what you're working on. We rebuilt our polo engine (admittedly 3 times in a row because we got cocky and didn't pay attention to certain things) and it still only cost us half of what VW quoted us 😂

One point you didn't mention at the flywheel. Some engines are externally balanced, so it is a good idea to mark the flywheel bolt hole to crank bolt hole. If you don't plan to reuse the crank, this is less important. You should also check the turbo for signs of oil starvation in this specific case as the bearing would seem to indicate an oiling issue.

Some other notes: You can also remove the radiator to give you more clearance. It's also advised to NOT remove the trans on RWD/AWD unless you're swapping or working on it, too, but it's fine either way. Use diesel for cleaning parts and grease. It's cheap and it's extremely effective at dissolving that crap. There are lots of while-you're-in-there improvements to make, such as removing rough casting ridges in the head and the block and port the heads to improve airflow and performance.

Nice description of how to use a bore gauge. Following the block through the machine shop process would be awesome. A lot of people throw around machining operation terms, but haven't seen the processes involved. For checking warpage, you need to run your straight edge in several different planes. Straight across the bores like that doesn't tell the whole story.

Love watching and re watching all donuts videos while I work on my cars, watched/listened to the video Zach found the spun bering while I did valve lash and scoped into my pistons. Makes me glad I'm not the only one having engine problems and just fixing it before it blows up. Seen to many people just shrug off sounds and blow things up because of ignorance.

Awesome video, definitely one of the most informative and entertaining videos I've seen for engine building I just did my first full engine rebuild, down to the crank on a SOHC EJ25 this past fall. I like seeing the comparison of steps to take to get to the block. Going to the extent of measuring and talking about machined surfaces is what I appreciate most about this video. There is a lot to rebuilds, not to mention the cost, but if you commit to it and do it right, it definitely pays for itself

Dude. I’m a mechanic for Lexus. I haven’t done my master tech ASE’s yet. I have suspension and steering, brakes, and manual transmission ASE’s. But I’ve been working for Lexus for 2 years. In experience, I’m already a Lexus, Toyota master tech. I’ve taken all their engines apart and put them back together a millions times already. And I have probably learned more from this channel when I was in my program than I did in the actual program itself. I will forever be thankful for this channel. And you guys all seem like a really cool team of people. Thanks so much for this.

I know this video is two years old, but I can almost guarantee the fact that you spun a bearing is the lack of the oiling issue with the RB’s coupled along with the fact that race bearings were used race bearings are good for their application but to be honest I’ve seen so many people spin bearings at 3000 RPMs I just built the motor and it’s because those bearings are built to get very hot very quickly and then cool down there not for sustained long high rpm use for an extended period of time if you’re going to street drive vehicle like this and bring it to the track or anything along those lines high quality Street bearings are always the way to go, unless you’re building a specific vehicle for a specific reason like stated then you are better off using those race bearings😊
