That's absolutely stunning, Pete This is top-level old-school artisan watch-making. As you said, people are getting tremendous horological bang per Buck from Dornblüth. And (like the early buyers of F.P.Journe 20 or more years ago) it might turn out to be a pretty sensational 'investment' too - if one were looking at watches through that particular prism. Either way, I find it stunning. PS it isn't important, but just on a point of pedantry, D.Dornbüth und Sohn ("ts-oh-n") is singular - i.e. Dornblüth and Son. It's not to be confused with the pronunciation of A.Lange und Söhne ("ts-oo-uh-ne") which is plural - i.e. A.Lange and Sons 😀

1. Actually since I ordered it the price has gone up 20% already so you might be on to something there - although Id have to be in pretty dire straits to sell this one. 2. You're 100% right, I was lazy, repeating the Lange pronouniation without thinking its actually a different word - which is really annoying because I was trying to get my german better. Thanks for the tip.

What a beautiful new acquisition Pete. I’ve been admiring Dornblueth Watches for a long time now. I just wish their website was a little more informative regarding pricing and purchasing. Their basic Small Seconds Watch (using the 99.1) is the one that drew me in but seeing your dual time version on camera is eye opening to the beauty of these Watches in the metal. Congratulations on acquiring this beautiful Watch Pete and wear it in good health. ✊

I know - their website is pretty awful. I worked with an AD, Fabio at timeonly (www.timeonly.com/) who has connections to the brand and family. Cant recommend Fabio highly enough if you're interested in knowing more.

Its worth the wait. I ordered the Big Date in December and was informed that the watch will be ready next March. Hell . you wait as long or longer for a machine made Rolex.

I have no problem waiting in a situation like this - and importantly its only waiting - there no 'preferred customer' rubbish.
@thethirdman225 Жыл бұрын
’Preferred customer’? Really? When a company starts treating its customers like that it’s time to move on. Even TAG Heuer, at their worst, never behaved that badly. They are not making customer-oriented watches. These guys, on the other hand, are the bomb. I’d have one of these in a heartbeat. I had reservations about German watches until I bought a Laco and the customer service was amazing. I expect these guys would probably be at least that good.

I'm fortunate to own a Cal. 99.1M. It is such a special time piece. Nothing quite like D&S on the market. Timepieces truly made the old fashion way. They have a feel all their own. Incredible company and products.

I really hate thinking of luxuries as value props - feels like Im treating them like a vacuum cleaner or microwave - but its also a hard idea to remove. I prefer to think of it this way (which may be just semantics but it works for me) Its even more of a luxury because I feel a huge amount of pleasure and very little pain when I have to pay for it.

I’d love to own one. I like the vertical power reserve model. I would worry about the servicing and the business being so small it could just disappear overnight.

That the Germans can continue the English watchmaking tradition is to be commended, as it is a sad indictment on my country. What a wonderful watch that understands history.

Remarkable watch and fantastic review! You really hit the unique spirit of independent watches starting at the 6 minute mark. It's just different knowing the heart and soul of the watchmaker is in creating something so beautiful. For me it's a completely different experience and the watch carries much more meaning than something machine made and off the shelf. Thank you for sharing your experience.

@@PeteMcConvill that is great perhaps I was speaking without having a piece that could be interpreted as being superior in quality in my collection. If I ever get the chance to own one I hope it compliments my collection as yours has. Always appreciate your content never miss a video. Thank you

Beautiful timepiece. What was that comment about an oligarch? Whatever the case you have to have enough disposable income to afford something like this. I want congratulate Herr Dornbluth and his staff for keeping this wonderful German watchmaking tradition alive. But you have to have enough money to afford something like this.
@PeteMcConvill8 ай бұрын
Sorry, I may not have been clear here - my point is that this watch is great, I love it, the quality is brilliant BUT its not Roger Smith or Philip Dufour quality. But then again its 10k not 1mill USD, if you are a pretty ordinary guy or girl a Dornbluth is possible whereas for a Dufour you arent in the running unless you own a premier league football team.

This watch is outright remarkable. European traditional watchmaking at its best.
@PeteMcConvill2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. In fact there is something very european about it, this might be weird but it reminds me of shopping for ingredients and home cooking in europe compared to home, the US or UK - a bit closer to the producer, perhaps a bit 'messier', less clinical, but also more flavourful.
