Uh oh, flinch at first pull! I think I felt that kick all the way over here. You and I both own old double rifles that are apparently better made than the modern ones. Now that hurts.

LMAO that definitely was a surprise and a painful one at that. Love your recovery though....priceless and indicative of the hunter's focus on target impact. Bottle or quarry, no matter it was hit.

Reminds me of Peter Hathway Capsticks book and how in a chapter he goes into detail stating that a gun of a hunter would go off by simply taking the weapon off of safety. I'd take the double whammy from both barrels rather than accidently putting that gun off of safety.

Oh, my shoulder felt your pain! The fact that you managed to hang on to that rifle afterwards says volumes about how many T-Rex killers you've shot over the years! I'd be interested to know why that rifle discharges both rounds though; this video was entertaining but if you'd been hunting and missed your first shot, there'd be no follow up, oops!

usually on doubles, it's too little sear engagement (or it's been rounded off, or it's a negative engagement (the interaction is such that the hammer wants to slip off, rather than be solidly stopped by the sear)). When the first barrel fires, the whole gun recoils, and the hammer for the other barrel bounces off the sear for a brief moment, and then the sear has to catch it before it goes too far forward. You sometimes see something similar with auto-loading pistols, where someone has messed with the trigger mechanism (or it's worn out) and taken so much off the sear hook/notch in the hammer that the hammer follows the slide closed (usually those have a half-cock notch that will stop it from going full-auto... at least until something breaks). Most of these internal hammer guns don't have a half-cock notch, as there's really no way to utilize it, so the gunmakers started using safeties that lock everything up. Some also have intercepting sears (think of it in almost the same way you would a firing-pin block on a pistol), which would prevent the hammer from falling all the way and firing the barrel unless the trigger is fully depressed, this one apparently doesn't/ somethings wrong with them lol the 3" .500NE and the 3-1/4" .500 BPE/NFB are good chamberings... so long as the gun is functioning properly lol.

@@wildrangeringreen Your explanation was useful as I'm a bolt guy. I've got an old Ithaca 20ga SxS that fired both barrels at once because I'd managed to set the barrel selector sort of in the middle. A bit of a surprise but nothing like two 500NE's firing together. I pushed the selector to one side and it's never happened again. Anyways, thanks for the explanation, much appreciated!

@@daniellouw9798 FYI I've been shooting big doubles for over 35 years and killed all the dangerous game in Africa with them and tons of buff. Thats not the gun. Always shoot the back trigger first because of the recoil your finger always slips and taps the back trigger which in turn causes big PAIN
@randomidiot81423 жыл бұрын
How does that work with recoil yanking the trigger away from your finger? Your finger would have to somehow get around the front trigger as the rifle is recoiling rearward in order to hit the rear.. I could almost see it being more likely to double on the rear as the rifle shifts itself back in your hands and makes hitting the front easier.
@talisikid16182 жыл бұрын
@@randomidiot8142 no. If your finger is moving backwards it will hit back trigger next. Fire back trigger first. Your finger can only slip past the back of the trigger guard. Then reach forward for front trigger.
@453421abcdefg1234529 күн бұрын
@@talisikid1618 On a properly made double you cannot touch the rear trigger if your finger is properly placed, you finger has to be moved around the trigger to get on to the rear trigger, which is very easy, but requires an extra movement, a badly set up rifle is useless for purpose, it seems that this bling thing is not correctly set up.
