There were 2 loads for the .577 , 650 grain,modtly for BPE and regular .577NE , then the fullbore 750mgrain and its load. Probably regulated for 650 to begin with this was .
@pamtnman15153 жыл бұрын
MrPh30, when the late 577 BPE guns transitioned to the 577 "light nitro" or "light cordite" load, their new barrels were upgraded to handle the 75/650 load. The full nitro load is 100 grains of smokeless pushing a 750 grain bullet, which is going to be too harsh on the old BPE frames and receivers. I have a 577 very similar to Alain's rifle here, originally built in 1891 and rebarreled in 1922
@MrPh302 жыл бұрын
@@pamtnman1515 I had a Ruger nr 1 in .450 NE, could load up and down. It handled alot and pressure wise it was something interesting from the classic one. Down to .45-70, up to 2450 fps or so on top. 300 -550 grain.

@@MrPh30 recall that today’s Nitro Express rounds started out as Black Powder Express: 450, 400/450, 500, and 577. Literally every case stayed almost exactly the same but was loaded with smokeless powder and shot out of much stronger, heavier rifles

Wonderful gun, thank you, Alain. The engraving must be subsequent to manufacture. Though the engraving is nice, the Scots do know how to spell Edinburgh! I would have wanted a serious chat with the engraver. That Bertram brass is what fits in my 1891/1922 Westley Richards 577, too. Took me a while to find the right brass, because the chambers were never enlarged for the then-more modern 577 Nitro brass for the 100/750 load. Our two rifles still rely on the dimensional brass from the black powder era, even if the gun's chambers are now capable of handling higher smokeless pressures. Looking forward to more videos of you using this wonderful gun

The engraving was upgraded in the 1980's by a Belgian artist who spelt it the French way....I guess that will just have to add to the mystery of Sir Alex?

Bit confusing here, full nitro's are 750 grain from 1800 to 2050fps, not 650grain. 650 grain was always the 2.75" light nitro, or the 577 BPE. The Light Nitro is 650 at 1650 FPS or the 750 at 1600 fps for about 5400FPE. Its a nice gun, what exactly is the regulation load currently?

And how do you know this ? My point is killing is killing . I would assume that you have first hand experience in Africa to be able to be able to form an opinion . It's ok in the USA to kill anything that walks if you have a tag , but in another part of the world it's not ? Consider conservation , do you think that you want this resource gone ? If it makes you feel better than it's better than an for an animal to be suffering in a snare .
