I know it's your opinion and I can see why fans disliked this album when it first came out, but I really don't understand the hate. Maybe it's because I'm not a big metalhead and appreciate other genres like blues rock which is why I love Load so much. I think James' voice was at it's best here and even some of the stranger songs have great meanings and lyrics (Mama Said). The overall western and bluesy feel really makes this album special in my mind. Personally if they REALLY would've sold out, they would've just copied the Black Album again instead of being experimental. Actually the only real issues I have with this record are the filler tracks and the weird album cover...but the orangeness of it makes sense, as the songs have warm feelings in them. Oh and they're outfits were weird in this era but it never bothered me. Thanks if you read all of this.

sometimes bands make songs that are so weird that they are bad, this album is full of them. it has nothing to do with its lack of metal and everything to do with direction and cramming every song they could think of on 2 discs
@ThierryRocksTV7 жыл бұрын
Yeah i agree with you on the pointless filler tunes. I think about 60 or 70 percent of the album is good imo but yeah they seriously should've just taken the best from both and combined them together into one album instead.

Your not a huge metalhead. So there you go. I it hate mostly because they became a crappy to mediocre rock band. Which represents the worst of the cliches of radio rock from the 80's onward. It is just mostly crap; "theirs nothing more else to say." P.s. They not just betrayed their style they Betrayed their vision. Just do not listen to metal bands that go Rock; unless it is done with as much effort, talent, and passion as their metal; because they can start destructive trends for both genres. P.s.s Metallica so called strangeness, is just a half-ass excuse at sounding different, so they can deflect and say they're progressing!

I laugh everytime someone says metal died in the 90s. Overkill, Testament, Grindcore, Death Metal, Black Metal, Power Metal were still going strong. Maybe not here but in Europe. As for all of you out there were you surprised that they went this way? Seriously watch a year and a half movie again and see how many times James goes to a bar and plays blues and or country.

Load came out in a state in time when grunge and alt rock took over the world, some songs have an AIC or Smashing pumpkins influence. I love all types of music, Jazz, Funk, Rock, Indie, and All types of metal genres. But the only thing I can say is, I enjoy a hand full of songs. The House that Jack Built, Until it sleeps, King Nothing, Bleeding Me, and Ronnie. A band that saved metal in the 90’s was Pantera and Slayer, and thank god for those two bands.

The Outlaw Torn is longer. They had to cut some out because they could not fit it on the cd. You can listen to the whole song on a single. Don't know which single it is though.

I was a teenager when this album came out, and at that time Metallica was my favorite band. I was at the record store the moment they opened the day this was released, and I don't remember ever hating an album so much in my life upon hearing it initially. I became disillusioned, began seeking out darker, heavier stuff, and I can't help but thank Load in retrospect for that. I've listened to it recently, and while I don't think it's as bad as I remember I still don't exactly like it. Oddly enough 'The House That Jack Built,' 'Hero of the Day,' and 'The Outlaw Torn' have aged really well for me personally.

The album cover is a piece by Andres Serrano, that’s his goo in there, not Metallica’s.

except they didn't sell out. They were the most successful band in the world and still are. They were multi millionaires. They did not need the money. They have always said "We do it for ourselves" and they do NOT like to be categorized. It's just elitists like you that make load a bad album but in fact it wasn't.

It was never the bands blood and semen used to create the album cover,it was a mixture of bovine blood and the semen was from the artist who created the image. Horrible idea either way...

fuck that bullshit. So glad the younger generation still into good music and can see that Load was aptly named lol - also lol @ the commentors dissing someone for disliking the Alternica albums. It was a shitty time for metal and he's dead on for dissing Metallica in the beginning for not supporting like 10000 metal bands from Europe that were kicking ass at the time who were coming out (even some from the States too) Lars Ulrch 1998: "we're not metal, we're hard rock". Years later he's saying they're metal again. Trendy turncoat fuck. (Hardwired ain't have bad though I will admit)

This is just my opinion, but load beat the black album by allot. Load was a sacrifice for Metallica, by leaving behind the thrash metal sound that made them popular in the first place, it made room for more progressive and original music that could fit in with the 90s, a time when metal had begun to decay. They gave a massive middle finger to the idiots who thought they could just play "enter Sandman" over and over again until they retired by making photoshoots with their hair cut off. And the music wasn't half bad either, although it wasn't near their best by any means, it had the strong writing and emotion that had only been seen in the first 4 albums, such as in "ain't my bitch", "hero of the day", "bleeding me", "mama said", "king nothing" and "the outlaw torn", the vocals felt genuine and the guitar work was simpler(thought solid). The black album(although their biggest success) is one of their most boring and repetitive albums yet, with overplayed songs such as "the entering of the sandman" and "nothing else matters", and filler like "don't tread on me", "of wolf and man", "through the never" and "the struggle within". Their only good songs being the ones to almost never get played. Even still, Metallica is still one of the greatest bands to ever exist and these albums just form part of their great history, it's always best to appreciate what they have done before it's too late.
