People confuse "Gender" with personality. There are INFINITE personalities, everyone has a different personality and that is what makes life so beautiful. But what happens is people try to associate their personality and put an official gender name to it, when there is no need to. The fact is, your gender is what you biologically are. I'm a feminine looking woman, but growing up I've always felt more masculine. I lacked interest in feminine things and got along better with boys. Today this means I'm a different gender when in reality there are different ways of being female and I fully embrace my femininity as well as my ruggedness. As an adult now, I let reason and rationality lead the way, not emotion. I've never felt more free than to come to full grip of reality. Sadly and ironically, people today lead their lives with emotion which leads to more emptiness and depression.
@jameswhite34154 жыл бұрын
@Heb725 When experts say sex is on a spectrum they generally don't mean there are a million sexes. They mean you can be born with varying traits. For instance, you can be born with a female brain and a male reproductive system, and male body. Your brain is always going to know your female but will be more okay with these changes if you start at a young age because these traits than match female more than if you wait to adulthood.

Their non-physical traits may exist on a spectrum, like interests, mannerisms, agreeability etc. For example we can have masculine women or feminine men. However, sex is a biological reality. In the example you gave (a male with a so-called female brain), the body will always "know" it is male. Your argument is actually self-defeating--to say there is a spectrum of sexes, while also saying their traits belong to male and female categories.

"Gender" doesn't mean "Your unique expression of being a human being" Some people get 'gender identity' confused with 'personal identity'
@punkgrl3252 жыл бұрын
@Despize Perform Gender is how you’re perceived by society; it has nothing to do with ones’ identity. Anything after that is subjective feelings about ones’ identity as a whole. That’s why it’s usually so strongly associated with superficial stereotypes related to gender to start with.
@godforreal73552 жыл бұрын
@Despize Perform its "subject" to what you present to the people around you and what they decide to label you... doesn't make it objectively true. Anyone can throw on a wig and smear on some makeup. Some people will think you're just some lady, depending on how convincing you are. Others will think you're a man in a dress, and likely to sexually assault someone. What isn't subjective about that?
@godforreal73552 жыл бұрын
@Despize Perform no, that's personal identity. No one feels like a girl or feels like a boy. Society has a roll for you to fill. A place for you to go depending on many characteristics including your personal identity, and what gender you're boxed into. Take a sociology class. Maybe try an anthropology course as well. If you're having gender identity issues, it is completely based on how you want other people to treat you. And just because you want to be treated like a pretty pretty girl or a big tough guy, it doesn't make you actually one or the other. That's a fantasy.
@godforreal73552 жыл бұрын
@Despize Perform imagine you slid out of a womb onto a desolate desert island. Would it be possible to feel like you had a gender identity issue? Without anyone around you to convince? You're confusing yourself. I'm not calling gender personal identity. They are distinctly different, which is a bummer for people who want being transgendered to make them interesting. The entire argument is just double think. "Just because I'm a boy, it doesn't mean I have to like the color blue and guns, but if I'm a girl and I like the color blue and guns, I must actually be a boy. I feel it deep down!" These ideas don't come from the individual, they're arbitrarily assigned by your society at large and if you adapt the right and wrong attributes, all of a sudden you got yourself a personal identity that's 'gender fluid'. My thesis is, be who you are. Like what you like. If your genitals are stressing you out, or the fact that you are the sex you were born, that's a terrible mental affliction and you would probably benefit from therapy. Wishing you were a different gender doesn't make it so. SAS and hormone therapy can't magically make you a different gender.
@godforreal73552 жыл бұрын
@Despize Perform Gender identity is a social construct that you either buy into, or don't. And if you don't, you never have to mutilate yourself to feel more like another gender because you'd be trying to please others rather than yourself.

Yup. Actually, I think she's correct that 'non-binary' is the truly erroneous notion in all of this. Male versus female is a chromosomal and binary condition. (The partial exception being intersex conditions - which are not transgender). However, if people choose to distinguish between 'gender' and 'biological sex', that's their perspective - no biggie. But 'non-binary' sex/gender does not really occur in any form of life, and certainly not in mammals. Certain types of fish can genuinely change biological sex, but they become one or the other. To claim a non-binary status is therefore to claim that your condition sets you apart more from other people than it does from fish or reptiles - which simply sounds like what we call 'alienation', not a medical issue. I was told I was gay all through Highschool. I knew I wasn’t but I was extremely tall for my age, was very skinny and extremely awkward. I grew up in the military and my father, who was what liberals would define as the embodiment of toxic masculinity, was the extremely abusive. Throughout highschool I avoided anyone or anything that reminded me of him (people who liked sports, shooting, cars, outdoors anything) and eventually I found video games which made the time pass by relatively quickly. Years later I’m married with two kids and after years of being married I eventually became comfortable with stereotypical masculine activities. However, I could easily see how if someone in my situation had been comfortable going to therapy, which I wasn’t, they could have been easily manipulated into thinking they were either homosexual or a woman.

I'm happy you share about this because it highlights the stereotyping many use when calling someone gay. If someone isn't a "stereotypical" man or woman, many assume he or she is gay, lesbian or transexual. Many online try to say that tomboys or thinner, gentler male characters in popular media are homosexual because of these atypical qualities. The only makeup I wear is lipstick and I used to dress down a lot when I was younger; I wonder if people automatically assumed I was a lesbian because of that.

Feel I need to put this out because it's probably rare information: many years ago I was going through really bad psychological issues and an interesting thing started happening - I started being more comfortable with "femininity" over masculinity. Masculinity seemed alien to me despite being a man and I felt more comfortable with the idea of the feminine. After doing the inner work and going for therapy multiple times it became obvious that for me (can only speak for myself), due to father issues and years of experiences with violent boys at school and growing up around many women - it became a coping mechanism. My mind had been conditioned to see masculinity as dangerous from a young age (unintentionally) and unsurprisingly I even experienced dissociation from my body for years. Not claiming I am a scientist, but I couldn't help but wonder that if didn't do the inner work to recover for years would I have had a different perspective on this? Would I have projected it onto society? Now masculinity is normal to me, and I feel pretty balanced in both "energies" but I'm still a man.

A trained resistance to cognitive dissonance. Typically, it's uncomfortable to hold opposing opinions together in the same headspace. For whatever reason (which I am sure there are many), people just roll with it instead of being so bothered by it that they actually stop and figure out what the problem is with the feeling of discomfort. Then they blame reality instead of recognizing the problem with themselves. It's probably more complicated than this, but it's a theory I've been kicking around for awhile now. I think it is systemic and no one group is better or worse than others regarding this kind of behavior. But I do feel that it plays a major part in our current paradigm of misinformation. Might help explain the abundance of medicated individuals, no doubt headmeds play a role in the lack of action concerning cognitive dissonance. I dunno, maybe I am way off but it feels somewhat accurate. ETA: the permissiveness of it probably happens because no one has any kind of drive to understand the issue. They just want the dopamine hit of acceptance regardless of merit.

Rogan highlights a good point when he asked her, "How do you feel more masculine?" When ultimately personality traits, at least in the modern world, are no more male or female. Gender is a biological identity, it doesn't extend to our personality anymore, as the the gender roles are fluid in our modern society and either male or female can display traits of aggressiveness or hyper sensitivity... etc So just because a male born individual has the generalised stereotype temperament of a women, doesn't mean they've been born into the wrong body. Both male and females are born with the same spectrum of emotions and capabilities for these temperaments.

You could tell most of the girls at my school we’re just in it for the “trend” factor 🤦🏻♀️now they are back to being strait and housewives 🤷🏻♀️🤔 I was not happy being objectified as a woman and so strapped down my boobs in high school, I think a lot of women/girls are converting their sex has a lot to do with not wanting to be noticed or objectified on a subconscious level. That’s what was happening to me without realizing it. If transgenderism was I thing when I was a teen I bet I would have convinced myself I want to be male as I didn’t know how to put into words how and what I was feeling. But I’m female and happy to stay that way and to be honest wouldn’t want to be a male as they are the ones that made me feel objectified, made me feel uncomfortable as a female.

When I was a little kid, my closest adults were women - my mother and grandmother. I watched a lot of shows about women and women's lives. I began to pretend to breast feed my teddy bears and I used to do that constantly. My mother and grandmother did not scold me. They did not yell at me or mistreat me. They simply taught me about how women have the ability to feed children with their breasts and men do not. They taught me the difference between the two sexes; the clear and defined biological differences. Over time, I got it. I understood and little by little that childhood phase left me completely. I am a perfectly happy heterosexual cis - gender male with many LGBTQ friends. I support the right of Gay couples to marry. I support the right of trans people to join the military and the right of adults (not children) to choose to transition. I think the notion of allowing children - who literally know NOTHING about who they really are - to dictate whether they should choose to be male or female (or some weird neo-limbo non-binary state) is insane. The thought of what would have happened to me if I were a child living in today's society and my parents would have been a pair of ultra - left "woke" individuals is horrifying to me. If an adult wishes to live as Non-Binary, that is fine. If an adult wishes to use the strange they/them pronoun, that is fine and it is that individual's right. And it IS strange because "they" is a PLURAL noun, NOT a SINGULAR noun. And THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING STRANGE. I have my own strange leans. I like to watch horror movies to sleep. That is STRANGE. I acknowledge this. I accept it. Accept your strangeness and be comfortable with it, but don't pretend that it is the norm. And for G-d's sake, stop trying to muddle the waters for children whose minds need direction. If a child shows signs of transgender identity (as I did as a child), gently and lovingly teach that child the biological differences between the sexes. Reinforce that teaching gently, with love - not with shame. Continue to reinforce it, because it will take time for the child to catch on. If the child reaches adulthood and he or she is STILL convinced that he or she needs to transition, THEN - AND ONLY THEN - as an adult, should the option for a surgical transition be considered.
@wyntrheart2 жыл бұрын
In the United States it is already illegal to do most gender affirming surgeries on anyone under the age of 18. The sole exception to this are some states which allow breast enlargement or reduction to be performed as young as 16, but this is a simple and easily reversible procedure, and they have to be living full time as their identified gender for years for this to even be an option. The earliest form of medical transition is puberty blockers which delay some effects of puberty (essentially resulting in a more 'androgenous' appearance that can easily present as either gender) and have no permanent effect when the drugs are removed, and they can only be used as young as 10 years old. Very few people start transition this young. Hormone replacement therapy can cause more permanent changes over a long timespan, but the minimum age for that is 16, so when they reach adulthood a person who grew up transgender won't have any irreversible changes to their body. Only on reaching adulthood do more permanent surgeries become an option. And every part of this process requires approval from psychiatrists and physicians. All this outrage about surgeries on grade schoolers or whatever is based on misinformation. As someone who didn't figure out for sure they were trans until several years into adulthood, it would have saved me a lot of grief to grow up in an informed and accepting environment where I would have felt safe to ask questions and experiment with my presentation and, when I was old enough, take medical measures to prevent the now irreversible changes to my body that will cause me distress for the rest of my life.

Your experience isn't identical to everyone else's. You're not trans. That's why your story went where it went. Now just imagine how different your life would have been if you were trans and had to spend years trying to convince yourself that you weren't just to appease your family and everyone else around you. Then when the 2010's roll around and attitudes toward trans people starts to change you finally accept who you are but you are now so far into being a man that the rest of your life will be even more of a struggle as you work to present feminine and have to have conversation after conversation with the people you know just to justify who you are. Then you lose some friends because they think you're insane and maybe even have to cut ties with family members who don't understand you because you never got the chance to express yourself earlier in life. Kinda sucks, right?

@@FreeState.21ST I think they meant that the trans person was so used to acting like somebody who they weren't, that they couldn't get out of this narrative they built up their entire lives Lemme try to make it a bit clearer with an example- Say a trans man (as in, somebody born a female who identifies as a male) lived their entire life growing up as a girl, trying to ignore how they genuinely felt because they wanted to appease their family, trying to fit in with society, etc. etc. Now suddenly, society has started to change the way they view trans people. They start to be a little more accepting. The trans man may want to fully transition now, since they see an opportunity to live a happy life in a society that won't shame them for their nature. Buuuuut since they grew up as a girl, they might find that to be difficult. They only own feminine clothing, all their friends only know them as a girl, their name might be super feminine, and all of that. It'd take time to buy a whole new set of clothing, to come out to every single one of their friends (who might take it super badly and leave them or worse), and more Does that clear up the confusion? ^^"

@vg14004 жыл бұрын
It honestly depends on where you reside. “Abnormal” psychological behavior is determined by what a society agrees is deviant, dangerous, distressful, and/or dysfunctional (i.e., what is socially acceptable). Socially acceptable and non-socially acceptable behavior can change depending on a society’s attitude to said behavior (e.g., interracial marriage, homosexuality, segregation). Your argument was used to keep races apart and keep homosexuals out of the military (among other things). Though most or some might share your view, it’s clear society is changing their attitude.
@goldenhole3214 жыл бұрын
V G I understand your point completely. However, I think the issue is that trans issues often are related to very serious mental health issues; the suicide rate for trans people is horrifyingly high, and I do not accept the response that this is due to bullying. It speaks to the presence of problems that need real professional help. But to suggest that many kids who are trans may also suffer from related mental health problems has become hate speech in 2020. Not because trans = mental health, but because trans feelings often stem from other issues and not a simple desire to be different.

The fact based narrative is that there are two sexes, but a wide variety of genetic conditions that can alter how you look and feel. And historically, there have been many cases where parents have made decisions based on those genetic abnormalities to raise their kids with gender norms the opposite of the actual biological sex. Most people aren't aware of this because they don't actually study the history of the genetic conditions. You can be born technically male, but have both genitalia. Or undeveloped male organs and hormonal issues that alter looks, behavior because of genetic changes. There are even historical cases of men with vaginas--naturally. It is not a stretch at all to understand why people would be raised a certain way or why they might, psychologically, think a different way. Psychological states are also influenced by chemical states, brain development, etc.

At the end what she said I related to a lot. As a girl going thru puberty I was so uncomfortable with the changes to my body and the feeling of being sexualized. I was so uncomfortable i thought that I was transgender and wanted to be a boy. It tormented me for 2 or 3 years until I could understand myself better. I wanted to be put on hormones and wanted top surgery. But I knew that I would never be like an actual man and that caused me so much pain. As time went by i identified to myself as non-binary then eventually back to female as an adult. Crazy that if I told my parents I could have transitioned when I wasn’t even actually transgender.

The craziest thing is how much I see comments like yours in the comments of clips and videos regarding this topic. One thing I personally think we should focus more on when raising kids, maybe teaching them in school and making them aware of is that hardly anyone, ANYONE (at least it's what I think, people might not agree), enjoy puberty. I hated puberty, how my body changed, getting a period. I still hate getting my period to this day (I'm 25, got it when I was 11) and I avoid it like the plague whenever I can with birth control (approved by doctors and nurses but besides the point). Going from being a girl to a woman or a boy to man is uncomfortable for most people. A lot is changing and it's difficult to understand. Which is completely NORMAL. Acting like we should all go into puberty enjoying every second and feeling like we're completely in love with our bodies is not the reality for most people. I think this is important to show and tell young teenagers that it takes time to come to terms with. So being a girl and getting your period, boobs, hips etc and feeling like you hate your body doesn't necessarily mean you're trans it just simply means you are a teenager.

"we have to be able to have a conversation saying If you feel different that doesnt mean you shouldnt be a woman" 🙏thats exactly what ive been thinking! Tell me about it... as a boy, I never went through the "Girls are icky" phase and always had girl friends. At a certain age, when my guy friends were into masculine things, like cars, guns, etc etc... I had zero interest in those things. As I was always hanging out with my girl friends and we'd talk about fashion, clothes, models, makeup, things like that. For three years, this drove me insane. As it kind of went down the path of curiosity leading to wondering, then questioning, leading to concern, etc. Where I couldn't talk to anyone about it, because I knew the knee jerk go to would be that I was gay. Not that it's bad, but that was so not the case. So it was just utter confusion about what was wrong with me. Turns out that at 15, I eventually began to just naturally gravitate toward stereotypical male pursuits, not because of feeling like I had to, they just began to seem interesting. Where I became a rather masculine guy who used the aforementioned feminine background to become a fashion photographer. Point is, I suppose, is that I physically cringe to imagine boys going through the same thing I did... And being convinced/gaslighted/goaded into thinking they're girls. Or that they're Trans, going on blockers or hormones, etc. When all they really have to do is have someone who loves them explain to them that what they're going through is pretty normal, as in most people do and in a couple years they'll be fine. Then I say a silent prayer of gratitude that these activists and KZbinrs weren't around when I was that age.

@@AnthonySforza thanks for the insight. I think the idea of giving hormones to kids is terrible as they are still in the process of learning about themselves, and so im glad to hear your story. @@SwedishBlouse true, although not nearly as (much*) as trans activists want people to believe. The rainbow brigade consistently refers to gender being a social construct as an absolute truth, at the same time, they allude to these occurrences of rare genetic disorders of biological sex to normalize and validate transgenderism as natural. Their argument is so full of contradictions, how can you to point to biology as the root of gender of trans people, while also claiming that biological sex is NOT the deciding factor in gender identity and it is the result of social factors as well? I think more people need to be willing to accept that in many cases the significant driving factor of trans identity is mental instability, troubled individuals reaching for an obscure coping mechanism in an attempt to heal emotional,psychological, and sometimes physical trauma. If we can get everyone to accept that then society will see the criminal absurdity in supporting (irreversible) hormone treatment in children and physical mutilation.

There’s an interesting cultural component to “feeling” aligned with a particular gender. I’m a woman, and I’m lucky to have had a father who was very present and active throughout my development. My mom and dad raised me to be self-confident, assertive, reasonable, and pretty quick-witted. To me, these are traits we could expect from any young American, regardless of gender. (Maybe I’m wrong..) But when I lived in Japan for about 5 years and exhibited these traits, I started to feel very uncomfortable. You see, the Japanese language is very gendered: there are clearly delineated speech patterns and vocabulary for men and women. (There are “neutral” patterns and vocabulary, too, but those are considered “polite language,” and if you use that among people with whom you’re expected to be familiar or intimate-close colleagues, friends, lovers, etc.-it’s considered very callous and rude.) The problem that I encountered, as a self-confident, assertive, reasonable, and quick-witted American woman, is that the expected feminine speech patterns/responses didn’t allow me to express those personality traits in a way that felt genuine. (This is certainly not to say that Japanese women don’t or can’t have these traits; I want to be clear that this isn’t wholesale linguistic determinism.) When I expressed myself in casual settings, I found myself reaching for the masculine expressions, which confused a lot of people. And then I got “confused.” I became very despondent (read: clinically depressed) that I couldn’t be myself without adhering to the gender norms of a culture I didn’t grow up in or even really like anymore. In the end, I finished my studies and moved back to America where I slowly regained my sense of self and self-expression. But the experience was eye-opening about how gender norms and gender identification are strongly inflected by (if not entirely dependent upon) cultural expectations.

This is almost correct. Think about why we wear the type of clothes we wear, is it because we have a certain set of genitals or do you think that the behavioural types we observe are molded by the evolution of culture. Think back to the olden days when being a real man meant that you wore 10 different colognes, a fluffy, fabulous outfit made with the finest fiber, stockings, and a most fluffy wig. Now, think about the 1950s and what a real man then meant. Suit and tie, clean shaved, can't wear any colours, a fedora. Did you know that the fedora was actually a women's article of clothing at first. This is the difference between gender identity and sex. @bustanut55014 жыл бұрын
I am really irritated in a way when I hear that the concept of male and female is a social construct. Like, no. Perhaps the roles that you might associate with these terms are, but in general, male and female aren't what you call a person that does certain things in the household. It's about two very different human organisms. One produces semen (male) and the other an egg (female). The male fertilizes the egg and the female gives birth. End of story. Edit: Great, now I feel that my comment is redundant because she says almost the same as I just did. I didn't hear that part when I was typing this.

Ok. She hurt her argument when she said she felt more like a man. What does it feel like to be a man? Perhaps what she meant was that she had more typically male interests. Other than that, I think she is on target. Trans activists, aren't worried about trans people, they're interested in political control & ideology. If they did care, then they would advocate for a more prolonged & holistic preoperative workup. Regardless about how you feel about transgenderism, it cannot be denied that this is a mental problem. It is a mental problem that is only being "treated" with drastic surgery & hormone replacement. That's fine if that's what is needed, but that will make things much worse for the patient if that ends up not being the proper treatment.

Claiming the binary doesn't exist because of Turner Syndrome or Intersex is like claiming people with 10 fingers don't exist because people with 11 fingers exist.
@diamondman2034 жыл бұрын
No, not at all. It’s like saying that people are born on a spectrum from 9-11 fingers, which is true. Just like gender being on a spectrum. Just because most people have 10 fingers doesn’t mean that people with 9 don’t exist, or people with 10.5 don’t exist. They do.
@cmack174 жыл бұрын
This may be one of the most backwards comments I have seen thus far. The proper thing to say would be: This is like saying people with 11 fingers do not exist because the majority of people have 10 fingers...which is demonstrably wrong btw. Also... What does "feel like a man/woman" mean anyway? How does anyone know what it "feels" like. other than using external descriptions given to you?
@Naskinlahtaaja4 жыл бұрын
Do you not understand what "binary" means? "Binary" means that there are literally only two possibilities, for example you wouldn't say that 0000111100001112 is a binary sequence "because the 2 is just an exception", would you? The accurate analogy would be you guys insisting that people can literally only ever be born with 10 fingers, reasonable people pointing out that what you're saying isn't true because some people are born with 11 fingers, and you guys proceeding to say "but those people are an exception, therefore it is still true that people are literally only ever born with 10 fingers".

One of the phenomena that Jung explained was projection onto opposite gender (anima and animus). One of the issues is man projecting onto a woman is an assumption of repressed traits onto the opposite gender. Or a woman projecting onto a man. So what we are dealing with is projection. Just because one has a strong transference onto the opposite gender as a child or adult doesn’t make someone the opposite gender. Instead of transition the older idea was to end stereotypes and expand what it means to be a man and woman.
