Despite their frequent friction and occasional bickering and butting of heads, when it comes down to it, McCoy gets extremely protective of Spock and leaps to his defense like an activated tiger every time his integrity is questioned or challenged by anyone, even Kirk himself, in multiple episodes. This is most clearly and dramatically evident in The Menagerie Part l, in which McCoy thoroughly excoriates Kirk and practically takes his head off for even considering the mere possibility of doubting Spock. This is reflective of the actual immense regard McCoy holds for Spock, and which they both hold for each other.

I find it interesting that Kirk putting the crews safety first is what saved him. He immediately calls for a red alert. And the flashing red light is what allows him to find the phaser. @michaelbarlow66102 ай бұрын
@scoobydoo23320. In the Star Trek episode, "The Conscious of the King", Kirk DID start looking for the overloading phaser after issuing the Red Alert warning to the crew of the Enterprise - he knocked aside books stacked on the shelf behind his desk and opened a box on that shelf and then after ordering Spock into the corridor to clear that deck and the adjacent decks, he looked on the floor in the sleeping section of his cabin, knocked more books onto the bedroom section floor and then walked forward into the office part of his cabin and while covering his ears glanced up at the Red Alert light and saw the phaser pistol illuminated by the Red Alert glow!

A similar scene took place in Kirk's quarters for the 2nd season episode, "Obsession", and another in sick-bay for the 1st season episode "The Enemy Within". In all 3, Spock and McCoy understand that Kirk is in trouble, or risking hus command, and go to confront or help Kirk, always privately. It goes to show that both are great friends to Kirk, who are unafraid to challenge him, if necessary, but ultimately go to help him figure things out. He repays their friendship and loyalty by being honest and appreciative, ready to listen, and change the course of his actions, if needed. Great trio, great writing and stellar acting.

I always felt Kodos had no choice but to put those people to death and make the food last longer. Look at it from his pov. He had a difficult decision to make and he made it.

I always got the idea that it was more his method than anything else. He decided who lived and died instead of drawing lots, or making it random in some case, or asking for volunteers (which I know sounds crazy, but hey, it happens). If memory serves, he applied his own ideas of eugenics and then carried it out ruthlessly. Deliberate play on the emotions when Spock is pointing out how children watched their parents die, etc.

Kirk actually activated the phaser remotely. He waited until Spock was in his quarters to activate it so that Spock would see that someone was trying to kill Kirk - you see, Kirk needed an alibi. Kodos's daughter did not put the phaser there. Kirk did. Kirk needed to find a fall guy for the executions. Then he would once again be able to sleep peacefully, knowing that his secret was safe. That in fact, Kirk was Kodos the Executioner.

Not quite 3 seasons in 1960's terms. In today's terms it would be 4 seasons or so.

Insane to think a simple side arm has enough power to blow up a whole section of a starship if it's on overload.

0:43 What is Kirk writing? He's using a tablet stylus to write on a piece of paper?
@Solitaire0012 ай бұрын
It just looks like paper. It's actually an input tablet, Kirk writes on it with a stylus and his writing appears on it. When he fills a page he taps a button and the text is sent to the main computer and the text disappears from the page, leaving it blank for more writing.
