Dr. Mike...I gotta say man...I've been on vacation for the past week and stumbled across your channel early into it and I've been watching every day since then. Wow...in short...this has changed my life. I've recently turned 50 and I'm absolutely loving using what I'm learning. I've started four meals per day, 40-50 grams protein each. This feels completely normal and sustainable, unlike IF and six+ meals per day. I've lowered the weights and my technique is really on point. Three count negative, two count hold in the stretch, then accelerated positive...it is unbelieveable how the muscles are worked, the joints are saved, and my mobility is up a lot. I'm doing three full body sessions each week...three sets max per bodypart...sometimes two. Each bodypart feels fried ad I'm completely spent at the end. But I feel like I'm growing like a weed...at 50! It's been a really long time since I really put all the pieces together. This is amazing and wanted to share my excitement about it. Thanks!

As someone who has often considered alternative supplements but most likely will never use them, it's still awesome to see that you care enough about the people who do to point them in the right direction, and for the rest of us who are just mildly curious to have a place where we can go and properly educate ourself on the subject. this guy is one of the best. Amazingly informative content (both the videos and the online guides). Definitely someone, I trust and look to for advice. I wish he could more openly talk about "supplements" as I am now wondering if his training recommendation for Training Volume (MRV, MAV, MEV, etc.) are based on the assumption that you are taking "supplements" or not.
@Cwillz303
@Cwillz303 2 жыл бұрын
The training volume recommendations are pretty wide, general windows- and he’s given some pretty good guidelines on how to find *your* volume landmarks (offhand don’t remember which videos but you can probably Google it pretty easily. Long story short, use a baseline performance, ie benching 225 for 10, and add sets to your program until you notice 225 for Reps backsliding; then you know you’ve gone a bit too far. If you can maintain 225x10 or add Reps… seems like you’re doing good!), so it matters less if someone is natty or enhanced, versus if *you* are natty or enhanced while you follow the process of finding the volume landmarks.

52 male here and I have an at home-diy equipment strength training starting at basic body weight stuff. The one thing I definitely have completely squared away is the food choices. I have a strict whole food-plant based diet. At my weight I"m gonna stick with a basic 100-120 grams of protein, but I'm well above on calories. Very easy for me and a big food that has good protein while eaten in bulk is whole wheat bread. Whole wheat pasta and black beans is my staple, with kale and spinach and cayenne pepper. Drinking tea and eating various fruit. No oil, salt, sugar refined foods or refined grains, of course. I can up beans and lower pasta to get a lot more protein if needed. The only thing I need is exercise discipline. :-) *If* I stick with it I will improve pretty fast imho and my legs have been pretty good in the past so restarting that should go faster. So it's mostly whole wheat pasta, black beans, lots of spinach and kale and some fruits. Living alone helps greatly to avoid temptation of other people's foods.

So, currently, I am in mass gaining phase, and I have been slowly adding calories. My question is, how do you determine when to increase? Currently I try to wait two weeks, and if I do not see an increase in weight, I’ll add 100-200 calories. Is that optimal? Or should I take a different approach? Thank you!

1 scoop of serious mass and 1 scoop of gold standard has been my go to mass meal for about a decade now. I'm a hard gainer so it has really helped me drink some extra calories. I started at about 63kg out of high school. I'm now 33 years old and 93kg.

@Person best of luck. My only additional advice is to build calories slowly and try to keep or add in your cardio. I did push calories hard when I didn't need to and made myself miserable when I could have just taken things slower.

@Person also you dont have to use ON gold standard. Any protein will do seeing as the serious mass has a lot of protein in it so your amino acid profiles are going to be fine.

Hey, Seasoned salt is one badass broad use additive. I use it on all kinds of things. Some things it makes taste a bit sweeter, some get some added zing, some it makes more savory, and all from one Shaker, it's amazeballs.

Holy chit! How do you burn 4200 calories a day maintenance? We're same height and I'm around 2500 with six days lifting and...(OK not doing as much cardio as I should). Impressive you're able to keep the abs at that calorie intake. Great channel.
