Very nice surprise, thank you Suzuki! But seriously: when you are already updating the engine with new valves, camshafts, exhaust system, electronics etc... would the implementation of a six-speed gearbox really have been an unsurmountable technical difficulty?
@martyn_g21 күн бұрын
I don’t think it’s a technical issue, more of a cost issue - I’m pretty sure that would have jacked the price up further- they probably made an internal estimate of price, versus engineering cost, against how many they’ll sell. I’m pretty sure this is the only model with that engine… I’m not sure about the following, but I think a change of that order would mean more emissions testing, which may jack up the price again.
@kaptainkyle7021 күн бұрын
@@martyn_g You’re probably right about the increase cost but they’ve failed to upgrade one of the top two things former DRZ owners have asking for. The SM would have been in contention for my next bike if they’d put on a wide ratio 6-spd.

The DRZ400S was my first road-legal bike in 2006 when i was 19. I kept it untill 2020 with many great times. I did own other bikes along side it and honestly, the only issue i had with the DRZ was the transmission. I bought a '21 690E a few years back and while it was double the price, it was worth it. I put the ACT wide-ratio gearset in my DRZ and it made it more versitile but it was also over $1,000 to do. I assume the bike doesnt have a 6-speed as to not compete with the DE adventure bikes, and a market analysis that shows people will still buy it. Unless it is under $8G USD, im not in the market.

With a 5 Speed, how will the gearing look? It'd be nice if it can comfortably cruise on 110kph, to join the fun roads on long adventures!
@MichiganMotoADV21 күн бұрын
It looks great. Only real concern is that with EFI how limited are the long range fuel tanks going to be for extended off-road travel? You likely won’t be seeing any big Safari tanks fitted to these. Also, will the aluminum subframe be able to handle the same weight load for adventure travel as the old steel frame? For most people this bike isn’t just for a few hours ride in the woods, there are far better trail bikes for that. DRZ’s are notorious for being outfitted as small long range ADV bikes with better off road capabilities than big road oriented “ADV bikes”. Hope that aspect hasn’t been lost.
@kaptainkyle7021 күн бұрын
@@MichiganMotoADV You do realize that the WR250R/X which came out in 2008 has EFI, an aluminum frame with a steel subframe. I currently have an IMS 3 gallon tank (there’s bigger) on my X and cary all my camping gear in a Giant Loop Coyote bag. The tank was super easy to swap as was adding a fuel programmer. The wide ratio 6-spd transmission is a big plus and I that wish my prior 2001 DRZ400S had one.
