The later parts of Super have been very enjoyable, expands the dbz universe, literally, but Z had those "moments" we have seen a million times yet still go and rewatch. Also Gohan before end of cell games was the MVP. But I go back to Dragon ball the most and the older quests with the gang are always refreshing. Super as a show if separated from Z is fantastic but the past can really wear on the present. Miss the adult humor from dragon ball too but being 26 that makes sense.

There were just so many episodes in Z, that transformations had time to be developed for the most part, save SS3 of course. If Super had another 140 episodes, and no more transformations than it has now, it would feel a lot better I think.

Just a thing worth mentioning, when Goku Black came out nobody knew what him really was, and that led to many theories and hypothesis, while in dbz all villains where pretty clear, that makes Goku Black a great villain IMO

They did the same with Kefla but sadly it was a halfway between typical Shonen villain and new grounds of characterization. In dbz not every villian was clear... You Just said that because you know and watched dbz many many times and now you know everything. But think about it. Future trunks comes up and saiyng about some androids, so they fight with them (c19 and c20), then trunks said thats wasnt them :| it was like wtf, they are androids they come in this time like trunks said, how they are not them :o then of course we have c17 and c18, but what then? Kami seen some evil creature and agreed to fusion with piccolo. It was big and another villian in one arc? How? Who was that? Then piccolo goes to fight with it and what? This green, bloody monster was sucking people by his tail. And still, how is it? It was a big and another plot twist in Just one arc. And then cell was hunting for biggest villians for now - androids. Really think about it. Then we had buu arc, where kai come to earth and said that someone want to revive old demon. Who is this demon? How strong is he? Ect. Dude you Just watch dbz in your early years(so you didnt have people to debate about it ect) or just you could watch all episodes and doesnt wait week for one episode, so all this mystery and plot twits werent with you for week, when you had some mind fuck you just play next episode(or you had it next day) and you dont even have time to think about plot twits, mysteries and debates.

I have to disagree with you on the Zamasu argument. Yes, Baby had valid motivations, but has Dragon Ball EVER shown a villain getting born, being developed, as it did happen with Zamasu? His motivation is also a show of lots of things: How gods like the Kais are NOT infallible beings, the way their rules of non-interference may actually be harmful in multiple ways (such as, you know, Buu), INCLUDING the way Gowasu was teaching Zamasu, who personally saw contradictions between his teachings and sentient beings' nature and instinct, and how lack of touch with mortals caused Zamasu to view them as absolutely inferior when the Kais may actually be no different. The only villain who got CLOSE to get me to such a level of insight (and even then we never saw him forming as a villain as Super did with Zamasu) was Frieza. Don't get me wrong on what I say of Frieza, he's still the best villain Dragon Ball has EVER conceived. Cell was not able to do that. Buu wasn't able. Seeing a villain getting born the way Zamasu did was actually refreshing.

if I had to watch either super or Z.....I'd choose Z simply for those certain moments it had. Gohans ssj2 transformation...Majin vegeta's sacrifice...the final showdown between buu and goku...there were just... MOMENTS... Super had a few but none that were on the level Z pulled off. I appreciated DBS for what DBZ lacked, but that doesn't mean it's inherently better. DBS is written in a way where it has characteristics of both DB and DBZ., and what I liked the most in DBS was the DB aspect. Aka, the more slice of life, character moments/interactions that were a rare, treasured thing in DBZ. But, the DBZ aspect of DBS could have been better, which was the suspense and dire situations in each saga, and of course, action packed scenes.

Sometimes I think people don’t realise that the pacing of Z was actually perfect. Take for example the Namek and Frieza sagas, a lot of people say Kai was better because it removed some of the panning shots of grass on Namek. I say those shots were important - They kept reminding you that our characters were on a different planet, away from home, in treacherous territory. Those shots also foreshadowed the destruction of Namek as throughout the saga the shots became more and more breezy, more violent and destructive. Z was and still remains a master class in building atmosphere.

There’s a couple of things I agree with you. 1. Dragon Ball Evolution didn’t do SQUAT to revive Dragon Ball. In my personal opinion, it’s probably an attempt to appeal to the young adult audience way before all the movie adaptations of young adult novels (and I’m not just saying that because I’m a salty 18 y/o hipster) 2. The humor in DBS keeps a smile on my face! 😁 3. The move retelling were quite unnecessary. Recently, I learned that they were there because Toriyama worried that kids have yet to see Battle of Gods and Resurrection F. I would recommend watching the episodes leading to the actual events of the film and then watching the movies.

While I personally really like Super (way more than GT), it's prezty obvious that aside from the difference in artstyle, Z had way more competence behind it regarding things like pacing and presentation. Some people say that Z was dragged out, but I honestly think that its pacing and speed of progression were exactly right. Z had the luxury of taking time while Super tried to do everything as quick as possible. Just look how long different arcs were during Z compared to Super. The Cell Saga almost counted 100 episodes! Compare that to the Trunks arc in Super which was completed with about 20 episodes. It just felt a bit rushed for a Z Purist. While I also enjoy MANY fights in Super, I also HAVE to give this to Z. Z fights are legendary: Excellent Choreography and Action! Supers fights sadly often felt hollow compared to that. They often kust lacked a sense of power and speed. Sometimes it just didnt feel like the characters are truly powerful. Sadly this was often due to bad pacing and compesition (just compare how the environment interacts with the combatants in Z compared to super). I really hope that they fix some of these problems when Super returns in 2019.

Z and Super have both had animation problems, but taking poorly draw in-betweens and saying that is bad animation makes people look dumb. That's a dab drawing, not the animation. There are often in-between shots that look poor even in series with good animation. This stuff happens. DBS really stepped it up once the tournament of power started, and you could often pause a fight at any time and that frame would be drawn beautiful enough to make it a poster.

I like DBZ more, but there’s also a lot more content in DBZ. Z had a lot of character development and better arcs IMO. I do like the new transformations and power ups that are in super, but I still think z was much better at building hype for transformations

I have to disagree with geekdom on the fight choreography I think supers fights are better than Z, I get technological advances from Z to super but Zs fights after goku turning super saiyan was mainly fast paced except for strikes were it gets slowed down, I loved dragonballs slow pace technical fights and super blends both dragonball and Zs fights nicely, look at beerus vs ssj3 goku or the entirety of jiren v goku, any of hit, roshi fights but this is just my opinion

Artimiss Barker dbs ep 130 was literally what we all knew was going to happen before the ToP even kicked off 😂🤣😂🤣 goku mastering mastery of the asspull-movement in 3 mins of using the form and overpowering jiren. Visually the fight was cool though, but lmao, it wasnt even close to a goku vs vegeta or gohan vs cell- type of fight. Mui goku vs full potential jiren was 1 episode in total lmao, and we all knew how it was going to all end at the end of the day. No intensity whatsoever, typical friendship-shonen boost that gave goku the edge over jiren, fight choreography and logic was meh considering jiren was mostly using ki-attacks against mui goku which makes no sense considering dodging is gokus strongest attribute. So nah.

Gohan vs cell and vegeta vs goku were much more intense fights, the choreography was much better, plot-induced it was a lot more advanced aswell, everyone knew goku was mastering ui and overpowering jiren, thats plain boring. The fight itself was cool and all but the choreography and logic was meh as jiren was using a shitton of ki-based attacks when he is aware gokus main ability is dodging those like I stated earlier, thats a great example of illogical decisions in fight choreography. I am not blinded by shit, I dont give a fuck what the name of the show is, I am just a dragonball fan, and having watched both dbz and dbs thoroughly, I can without a doubt state that dbz is far better. Not everything in life evolves, in a lot of cases actually a continuation of a movie or show is often worse, because it is difficult to create something of which people obtain the same feeling as they did in their first viewing experience. The villian point was very interesting and I disagree with you Geekdom. Dragon Ball Z had one interesting villain and that was Cell. Frieza felt like the generic evil ruler and I have always found Buu to be quite annoying and out of place. When he is handled seriously as Kid Buu he has no personality at all. Meanwhile, Goku Black was a great villain and Super made Frieza interesting by showing his psychopathic traits.

I like the think that Team Four Star's DBZ Abridged also contributed. Which I admit I'm most likely wrong but it did reinvigorate the interests in DBZ in many original fans as well as bring in a new audience. In many ways it was better, also it became so successful that TFS was invited to voice a few of the characters in Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2.

@@chrispolo25 that's subjective kid but whatever And the super saiyan forms get a pass now? 4 was special and felt very primal 1 was very iconic and phenomenal but it started to get less special once the buu saga started maybe even before since goten and trunks got it so easily and because it simply became useless against enemies because it wouldn't be strong enough, not used enough etc. etc. Super saiyan 2 worked well but only because of gohan and as we moved on it gets less special. Sure goku and vegeta got super saiyan 2 too but they didn't make it special to begin with. Super saiyan 3 was more disappointing and the previous super saiyan forms got less special and it wasn't used enough plus gotenks got it too easily which just ruons the idea of this hard to learn all powerful form. I think you're ignoring dragon ball z had problems too. Like the feats as an example. We're supposed to believe every enemy is stronger than the other, every blow/ki blasts they deliver is stronger than any was before but the way they show that is just by doing the same thing over and over again. Like once you've seen those feats many times they aren't gonna be special anymore. Oh look that beam goku is firing into the air is growing larger and larger and even larger as it flies of to space and then ends in a giant explosion. Let's copy and paste that many times over and just say that blast is stronger than the previous one. Feats because less special like that And why are we neccesarily moving on to forms whilenthe original topic was about discussing the laziness of super We were talking about super being lazy or not. What do the forms have to do with any of that. Nothing. And honestly I think you're really devaluation the super saiyan forms introduced in super. I do like Goku Black/ Zamasu more than Buu and Cell. I just think the concept of an evil goku was very cool and hasnt really been explored. At first I kind of hoped that Black really was an evil goku, because we haven't really seen it, the closest we have gotten was Ginyu taking Gokus body, Turles which doesnt really count because 1 hes a movie villain and 2 hes not any form of goku he just looks like him. And now Black, which is pretty much just like the body switch thing we had with Ginyu. I did like tho that Black got the chance that ginyu didnt, getting to learn how to properly use gokus body and his powers and pushing them beyond even what goku was capable of.

For one, the fights were far better paced, the action was always faster and more energetic (although the fight scenes in the Resurrection F arc were shit). The fight scenes in the Tournament of Power arc were also much better animated than DBZ, although earlier arcs were much more debatable and the first 2 arcs were undeniably worse. Super also has better lore and worldbuilding than Z.

Matheus Rubim de Paoli Super wasn't executed Properly the Tournament of power is a prime example of that the concept was good we could've had a 1v1 instead we got this mess where every characters fight in the same ring and we don't know wtf is going on for example we say no items are allowed one minute later u see Kale and Caulifla using potara to fuse nobody call them out for cheating Goku gets energy from his friends who are outside of the ring when they erased Frost for trying to attack when he was also out freaking Toppo gets a new form and can hakai anything only for him to get one shotted by Vegeta in the next episode so what was the point of that form ? the pride troopers all get eliminated in a single episode Jiren is one of the most inconsistent character I ever seen in anime he goes from a proud silent warrior to a cocky bastard bragging about his power to a crybaby when they revealed his backstory to wanting to kill Goku friends says I don't trust anyone yet he's in the pride troopers Goku mastered a form that the gods didn't in 48 minutes then proceed to say to Vegeta I can't use it anymore u master something but u don't know how to do it anymore how does that make sense?? then in the final episode we learn Zeno did this to teach the universes something when he only did this to erase the weak universes because why else didn't he invite the strong universes? Whis can apperenlty revive the dead which makes the DRAGONBALLS pointless since Goku and his friends use it 90% of the time to revive and the list goes on u see this is what I mean stuff like this are inconsistent asf

Goatoki giving energy is way different from trying to kill someone, toppo only got beat by vegeta because not only vegeta used the tactic of attacking while he was recovering from using the hakai and almost blowing himself up, it was never said the other gods don't have it or mastered it, it was only said that it's hard for them to achieve and the only one that we know that has it is beerus, goku mastered it in the sense that he can use both attack and defence not he actually mastered it in the sense that e can use it any time he wants, jiren was cocky ever since he appeared, he just talked more later when his ideals were being questioned, he didn't try to kill goku friends, it's heavily implied if not outright said that he did it just to prove his point, the tournament being a battle royal is on toriyama and if it was 1v1 it would be even more drawn out that it already was making a lot of people lose interest in it, they complained about the items when they appeared and zero allowed it thus making it legal to use it, if zeno said his motives it wouldn't have much impact on the universes now would it, the whole point is that he was gonna erase them because they were fucked, and with the tournament they made this plan to make the universes understand that they could've been done for good and it they could still be erased if they don't get their shit together because this time they got lucky, not that hard to understand Most of the things you said made sense and were acknowledged in the show, and still gt was still executed more poorly as a whole while in super most of the things were right, aside from the trunks arc ending, but aside from that it was good, the u6 tournament was executed right for what they wanted, the movie retellings aside from the animation were better than the movies from a plot standpoint and while the ToP could be executed better it was still good enough

I would say Super has definitively worse animation, with its best animated moments still only being about mid-Z tier. And I'm not talking about random stills. That's not animation. I mean how the frames flow and how fights are depicted. That and the pacing/choreography of the fights are... jarring. I liked Goku vs Caulifla because it felt the most like Z again. But nothing comes close to Goku vs Cell or SSJ2 Goku vs Kid Buu. While I don't always agree with Zeon, his vid on the animation problems of Super is pretty good. Granted it did improve, but still not to the same level of Z. Both Z and Super use cost cutting measures, but Z's are more stylish.
