All great tips. It didn't go into the greatest of details, but did at least touch the basics to making it work right - stretching the strings is critical with a Floyd Rose or other floating bridge. I'd also recommend making sure the bridge's posts/studs are lubricated with something like a PTFE dry lube, if it's a new guitar, the springs for the bridge also need to be stretched a bit, and personally, I've found the NYXLs to be more stable than the XL strings.
@1000eyes55 Жыл бұрын

I found a deck of cards works well to get the perfect height on the bridge when removing all the strings! Push the bar down slightly, stack them until you have the perfect amount, then take not of the tuning... might be a few cents flat, remove strings and retune to the previously noted pitch and remove the stack of cards (you shouldn’t be far off perfect pitch). Another tip use a bit of masking tape to wrap around the cards that goes behind the bridge and write on the masking tape with marker what guitar/bridge the height of cards is for!
@chrisgoblin48572 жыл бұрын
I use playing cards as well. Exactly as you say. 4 of the 5 guitars I own have floyd rose bridges which includes a Fender Strat with a Kahler and an Epiphone Les Paul so I've got it at the point where my string through body 7 string takes longer for me to restring. I'm definitely going to take that tip with the masking tap and use it, cheers mate.

Floating bridge guitars are the manual gearboxes of guitars! You just have to have that extra bit of love and desire to learn and use 'em, and they're very rewarding once mastered :) Some great ideas in here I'll have to try, but one question... instead of clipping the ball off the string as the first thing, why not just insert the string from the opposite end at the start? Then you can just clip the ball with the excess string after it's locked in? Obviously not a big deal, was more curious if there's a reason you choose not to? :)

I clicked on this video hoping to find some love again for Floyd Rose bridges, but it reminded me why I only use fixed bridge guitars since my first one. I'm starting to think that guitars with a Floyd are more common than I thought, for example my dream guitar is a Jackson RR and I can't find one with a hard tail bridge, but I don't have the money for it anyway. Guess it's not something I should worry about just yet.

I've been preaching this all over KZbin for a little while now. Trying to reduce some of the Floyd Rose hate with a little info. They really aren't that bad to deal with. Some people just never take the time to learn how to deal with them and make it much easier. The only time I take more than one string off at a time is if I'm going to do some maintenance on the neck or bridge.
@F4ngel2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. First time stringing can be a little painful but the sound and tone the guitar gives is worth it
@raakareiska9804 Жыл бұрын
Mostly dont like floating cause the tuning changes from minor things like the angle you hold it. Herman demonstrated that in other video.And once you pull up your tuning your tuning is sharp. Once you dive bomb its flat. The string change is easy piece but all the other little annoying tweaking and retuning is a mood killer

I shove a Shredneck Tremblock under, (What Mr. li demonstrates and shoves under his bridge) take ‘em all off, clean the board, restring, tune every string to near pitch, I aim for a fret below pitch e.g Low E I tune it to D. And remove the block. When you remove the block the guitar is near enough in pitch and then just tune and stretch from there. It really isn’t hard lol.

new comment.. please dont do anything this guy says. there are much easier ways then his super over complicated way. just block your trem. remove strings. replace strings. retune slightly, enough to hold the bridge from fully collapsing. then just keep tuning the stings top to bottom until there good. then lock the nut. then retune. play with wammy bar. retune fine tuners. job done. in a day or so unlock the nut and then retune all over again. its super easy. if you think you cant do it thats a lie. just do it and learn. its way simpler then what hes making it out to be.
