From a sales stand point Drake has some of the highest numbers of all time. I think those numbers are inflated because of the streaming generation. If bunch of people play a few songs from his albums repeatedly, it counts as an album sale. Overall Drake's vanilla rap reaches a wider audience just like the ice cream. He cannot connect with the social/political undertones of other artist. If you listen to each one of his albums back to back he has similar songs/vibes on every album which shows his lack of creativity/growth as an artist. The man makes music that degrades women / all fans for being less financially successful than himself. Many rappers do but switch their styles up to add variety. His lack of versatility means he isn't a GOAT contenders for me. Club hits don't make you the GOAT in my book.

Drake may have brought mainstream legitimacy to the Toronto scene. But being from here...I can tell y'all that there was a time when Toronto hip hop was all about the ART, especially in the 90s/early 2000s. Since Drake blew up, now it's all about riding his wave and copying his style/sound...the city lost its originality. Btw, Toronto was never called "the 6" before Drake...it was either T-Dot, T.O. or the 416.
@x234715 жыл бұрын
Had to respond because that's my EXACT sentiment. Toronto had some of the most unique sounds but was always overlooked. K-os("I wish I knew natalie portman"), Shad ("Rose Garden") just as a few examples were hits that didn't quite propel their careers into superstardom. Drakes little Wayne cosign did and thus he became a legitimate rap act for the past decade. But many torontonians didnt champion toronto hip hop legends like k-os, and thus everyone just crowned drake Canadas rap star because he was and is the most poppin atm

I believe this proves Justin could make a GOAT piece on anyone. Compared to other so-called Hip-Hop elitist I'm a HUGE Drake fan. Hated "Views" but besides that rock with all his albums. However, that comes from my acceptance of who and what he is. I know I grade Drake on a curve. He raps better than 95% of the game, but how much of it is him? I choose to believe that when it's really dope and introspective, it's Drake. I believe it's him for the obvious reason: How could you let another person write out your most personal thoughts? This is with the knowledge that - a guy who should be in a GOAT piece, btw - Royce Da 5'9" wrote Dr. Dre's dedication to his deceased brother. And this is where it gets a little deep, because Dre OBVIOUSLY to ME would never be included in these discussions. Neither would Kanye or Easy-E or Diddy... But where really does it stop? For me? At Drake. He's the dividing line. He'd never be on my top ten all-time list, but I'm not arguing too much with anyone who has him there.

PAUL HERBERT because they don’t full understand or listen to his music. They think his hits are everything. If they actually took the time to listen to his raps to they’d understand why he has so many fans. Just closed minded people. Drake even said in 2008, “don’t you see if I just spit bars and couldn’t write a hit, they’d be calling me the real MC”.

Drake is a pop artist. He's not a rapper and he sure as hell isn't an MC. Like every pop artist, his job is making money (and he's great at it). People don't talk about how Drake contributed to the culture or how he's an expert lyricist. Its only about catchy music which he himself doesn't write. The worst part is, most people who think Drake is the GOAT, don't actually listen to or have an indepth knowledge of Hip Hop.

Too me drake is the GOAT. Drake can literally do everything when it comes to music. He can sing pop music type (One Dance that hit number 1) make love song, he can rap songs that get in your feelings, album after album is a fucking hit, the media makes challenges out of his trending songs (In my feelings), drake is just an international icon. He also gives back tot the community. He puts people on the hip hop/ rap game (Blocboy jb). He literally ended Meek Mills career. Nobody was fucking with meek because of drakes diss. Drake brought him back with going bad. He ended and resusitated a career like cmon. This man drake can literall do it all. And that is whats makes the GOAT.

PAUL HERBERT drake is the GOAT at being accessible. He sells records. That’s what he does. He has arguably the most crossover appeal of any artist EVER. People wanna get on records with him because he makes sales and he’s one of (If not the most) popular artists in the world. I never said he can’t write, I’m just saying I put him into a completely different category than I would put a real Emcee like King Push
