I’ve been fasting for 5 months now, my feet hurt so bad , I was bed ridden and I didn’t want to poop as much, so I would just eat something once a day or I wouldn’t eat at all, now I’m to the point of just fasting 18 hours a day, and since I’ve started to went from 330lbs to 290lbs , I don’t drink sodas and all I eat are home cooked meals. Fresh ingredients, I went to get blood work done and they said I have high uric acid so they recommend I stay away from eating meats. I don’t have diabetes but I do have high blood pressure, and high insulin resistance. My feet still hurt as if I had neuropathy, I can’t walk without crutches, they gave me steroids and vitamins to heal but I still need to see a neurologist or rheumatologist . I will continue my journey, so far I’m getting better.

I believe fasting ( 1- meal a day) enhances brain power based on my personal experience. When I was 25 yrs old to 29, I had a very strenuous job that required me to sit all day in the office and skip lunch, not by choice but by necessity coz lunchbreak gave me the opportunity to attend to piles of technical papers that accumulate on my desk over the working hrs from my subordinates. I was a chief design engr and much time is needed mentoring, guiding my people thru the day. Nights were not spared for I' d bring work at home and go through them after I consumed my OMD quickly through the wee hrs. I lost much weight but didnt complain coz my brains worked so well during those times. ( only my wife did complain, for lack of intimate hours so much so that it took 5 yrs before we had our 2nd child, which materialised when I transfered employment). Looking back, now I am retired, I savor that experience and attribute it as responsible for my better health condition ( I am 71), longevity and managing birth control.

I'm constantly changing what I'm doing for fasting whether it be not eating or only eating certain foods. DO NOT pick one thing and stick with it. As paradoxical as this sounds the human body actually hates consistency. For example if you want to bulk up will you do so by doing the exact same exercise regiment for a year? No, you continuously add more to it so your muscles get more intense work outs. Have some days where you eat 1 meal, then a day of 1 meal with no carbs and sugar, then a day of 2 meals, then do a 3 day fast, then eat once every 2 days for a week. Keep changing it up and I promise that you will never have to deny yourself of certain food ever again. I have done this for 1 month and a half and I've lost 30 pounds, and while everyone says I look like a twig now I know I can lose another 20. I will never stop doing what I'm doing. I will always do this for the rest of my life because I have complete control of my cravings. I can eat whatever I want, I simply choose WHEN I can eat it. I don't have to say no to a bag of chips, instead of having it as a snack at 3 PM, I have it as an appetizer at 6 PM by waiting 3 hours and eating with my dinner. WHEN you eat is FAR MORE important than WHAT you eat. I suggest this. Never eat breakfast and instead switch over to bullet proof coffee in the mornings. Basically coffee with butter and coconut oil (I also put Cinnamon as it's very good for you). The coffee WILL help you last the WHOLE day up till dinner time. I have gotten to the point where I'm addicted to the feeling of not eating because I am so focused with my senses sharpened that I have the ability to get so much work done, and now when I do eat I feel like my brain just shuts down. I'm going to experiment to see if cutting down my portion will help alleviate this because it's annoying me greatly. I'm 21 years old and 5' 9". There was a time when I was 260 pounds. Right now as I'm typing I'm 173. I have lost a lot of fat and also gained considerable muscle and I've only just begun. If someone as hopeless as I was could transform this much then I assure you that you can as well! Good luck.

Awesome, you are finding what works for you by actually doing it and examining the results. I have no doubt if you continue in this manor you’ll reach different conclusions. WHEN you eat is important bit what you eat is just as important. Test it, and see that your brain won’t shut down if you eat CORRECTLY after a fast. Correctly would be Dr. Bergs healthy KETO along with Dr. Bergs general instructions. No processed foods, carbs, sugar, alcohol...etc. Try it and see.
@dontfit63802 жыл бұрын
Your 21 years old as long as your active you should be able to eat what you want. It doesn’t mean you should though. I have to disagree with you. It is always about what you eat not about what time you eat. Sounds like you may eventually lose the weight you want through calorie restriction but understand it’s not just about weight loss. There are many skinny diabetic and unhealthy people. Eating high carb foods will still cause inflammation and can still cause insulin resistance regardless of your weight. Watch more of Dr. Bergs videos. I wish I’d have know at 21 what I know now about how and what to eat.

I feel like crying. For two years I had that foot pain, it just started randomly one day and it would hurt especially when I walked. Nothing showed up in xrays and I went to many doctors and they just gave me pain suppressants. I also developed numbness and tingling in my feet and hands and would get dizzy when I stood up. My eyesight was worsening and I had brain fog and anxiety and palpitations and I was severely anxious and depressed and food was my only savior. I even developed PCOS and I am only 20 years old. Ever since I started keto all of these conditions have improved. Thank you so much Dr. Berg!!

You are so wonderful! At menopause I crashed unable to think, confused, terrified of wtf was happening, knowing no MD would have a clue. Now,12 yrs later with diagnosis of AS I knew I was going to use diet to heal and began searching for solutions. Former vegetarian my food is medicine and while keto helped it didn't stop the day & night time hot flashes. Carnivore was better but...now Paleo Ketogenic (thx for interviewing D.r Szophia Clemen's) and finding better results. Was enjoying my ghee in bulletproof coffee but it became an addiction. Tough to find comfort foods in a new diet! But it's happening, especially as my gut rebelled with my occasional binges into pastries, ice cream & whipped cream. Thx for your article on the dangers of those foods too. Big hugs & loving to you Dr. Eric Berg. You are so kind, great to look at & the tone of your voice so soothing. I hop-e your wife has lost her competitive jealousy to realize the quality of her lover & partner by choosing her own goals not in competition. I’m doing the 23hr fast for the 3rd day now. It is a bit weird to only eat 1 hour in the day, but I’m starting to reep the benefits. More time to do something else, it’s easy, certainly when doing meal preps too, it enhances my focus on what I’m eating and I start to love it! I’m no longer bloated, I do have cravings every now and then but they don’t bother me as much, and I’m really really excited to go eat! It was usually just because I was hungry or had a craving. I’m more in control now and it helps to watch your video’s about fasting because it’s like my body speaks to me while watching like a little kid. Saying things like Oh please can you do this!? I would love to get some autophagy and gut repair, and please spoil me with a 72hrs fast because aren’t I worthy after all I did for you?! 😂❤

I'm a few days shy of 6 months on clean keto. Although I've seen some great benefits, my memory and focus have sadly gotten worse. I've really stuck with it and haven't cheated at all. I wanted to do intermittent fasting right from the start, but I couldn't. I had the most powerful, painful, awful hunger pains that would actually wake me up early in the morning. I absolutely had to eat something to stop the pain (usually a handful of macadamia nuts or some cheese). After a little more than 4 months, those pains finally started to subside and I could fast throughout the morning. Yay! I now have 4 weeks off and I've started walking every day, although I get serious muscle fatigue after just a few minutes - so I've increased my electrolytes. As well as walking, I'll also try to wait longer to eat. I've been at 16 hours for about 2 months, so I guess it's time to try 18 hours! I'm going to have an incredibly busy September to December, and if my memory and sleep improve, it will make a huge difference in how I can enjoy this very busy time! I sure hope it works!! 🙂
