The best the things you find sailing are often unplanned. Forced to leave Montserrat in a hurry to get out of the way of a cargo ship that wanted to anchor in our spot, we set sail unprepared for our next destination. As we sail out of the anchorage we decide to make an unintended stop the island of St. Barts. We sail overnight and Brady gives us a demonstration of how our tethering system for keeping people onboard Delos at night, and we also talk about some of our rules for sailing safely at night. We’re immediately blown away by the stunning beauty of St. Barts and decide to have a day exploring the waters and beaches in Delos style.

Now a question for the crew...With your resupply missions, you buy hundreds of lbs of dry and canned goods. Is there often anything left that you don't end up using? A can of corn or a bag of lentils or something that was anticipated as part of a meal that didn't happen. There are always those well intentioned food items, I know, it seems my home pantry is right full of stuff, stuff I wouldn't even pass off on a food bank.

She's Le Grand Bleu, formerly owned by Roman Abramovich (who now owns the second largest private yacht, Eclipse). The sailboat is reported to be 73'. The powerboat on the starboard side is reported to be 68'. We ran our dinghy around her in Virgin Gorda's North Sound a number of years ago, while Abramovich owned her. We didn't get close and didn't look menacing (two guys with a couple kids in an empty dinghy), but a crew member walked around the deck as we circled, never taking his eyes off of us. We couldn't see his hands, but we all swore (later over sundowners) that his arms hung like he was holding a firearm.

Love your very reasonable rules for leaving the cockpit at night. My boat was much smaller and the crew was just me and my wife, so my rule was NOBODY leaves the cockpit at night unless it was a life or death situation. No deck sight seeing at night. And, the person on watch in the cockpit was harnessed with life vest and hooked in. And each vest had a packet of mini flares. Like I said, smaller boat. Massive paranoia on my part but, we never had an emergency, of that nature. If you fall off a boat at night off-shore, huge chances are, you are going to die. Even in the daytime, if the boat is making any way at all, if it is not discovered almost immediately, you are going to die. So the FIRST safety rule is, never fall off the boat.

Wow that's an awesome boat...Delos of course, but also Le Grand Bleu. It is one of the largest private yachts in the world at 113-meter (371 ft) in length. She was built at the Bremer Vulkan yard in Bremen, Germany, and was launched in 2000. She was previously owned by John McCaw, Jr., an American businessman, who sold her to Russian businessman Roman Abramovich in 2002. In June 2006, Abramovich gave Le Grand Bleu in a gamble to her current owner, friend and business partner Eugene Shvidler. The boat also boasts two additional yachts on individual cranes that she carries on the topside of the aft of the boat - one is a 73-foot (22 m) sailboat (on the port side), and the other is a 68-foot (21 m) powerboat (on the starboard side) Credit for this info goes to Wikipedia

Wow that blue mega yacht was anchored near my house in NJ a year or two ago. It has a sailboat and a pretty large motor boat on it and an aquarium. It was moored by the Statue of Liberty and they made them move it .

One idea about safety I came to think last months. Why a MOB device either personal or life rafts don't contain a radar tube type compact reflector. On either types it will very easy to add a inflating tube like divers location type with the radar reflector on top. Not sure if say it right as I am Spanish speaking..but I guess you get idea...actually it could save many lives. Whistling on a storm to windward won't help much or waving..either way you are low on water...we need a tall as possible thing able to deploy with system included etc. Or you could inflate yourself if hat fails..and so on...best luck...saludos de Ecuador..

I spend as much time as possible out on the water here in the Seattle area, in honor of Captain Brian. Today I departed from Yarrow Bay Marina at 9 a.m. Did some wakeboarding and swimming...at the nude beaches, too. Then joined up and tied off to another friend and his trawler, near Seward Park, on his way to the Ballard Locks towards the Puget Sound for a fishing trip. We peeled off at Ivar's on Lake Union for beverages and happy hour! Spent the best day today on the water and an 83° Seattle day!

That boat was originally built by Seattle native John Mccaw. His brother Craig Mccaw had a yacht called Tatoosh that is 303 ft long. Paul Allens estate owns that now along with Octopus which is 414 ft long....

@Sailing SV Delos did you know that macadamia nuts can have candida present in them? You can kill it by lightly roasting them or if you are prone to certain activities then some moonshine might be in order after eating them. If thrush turns up on the boat while macadamias are being consumed, you can guarantee that is where it came from. cheers.
