Big tip for thrifting furniture, its a higher price point, but look out for habitat for humanity restores. They have tons of old solid wood furniture for not the worst price. Their chairs and couches are also surprisingly affordable. They also have renovation materials like flooring, plumbing stuff, lighting stuff, and doors and windows. Would recommend if you want big wood furniture that's in great shape for a better price than antique stores.

Yeah it’s definitely a bummer but I guess it’s pretty standard according to our realtor. She told us to not get attached even after our offer gets accepted… so I guess this was a lesson for us to curb our expectations a bit.

So sorry about the house! On the other hand, if the owners aren't willing to work to fix the things that are wrong, it isn't the house you need in your life. Definitely don't take on someone else's money pit. =) My husband and I bought a townhouse in a co-op and while it wasn't what we had envisioned for our home (think "bag end, but more above ground"), we've been making it into our Middle Earth. What we ended up doing was planning for the spaces instead of being rigid on an outcome. And also not being stuck on "well we have this, this, and this which don't really have the look we want but we have them so we have to use them". I will happily donate the things we have and then thrift the things that give the space the feel we want. So that's about where we are now and what we've been looking at when we're thrifting.

As a kid with asthma, a canopy bed was always my DREAM. Thankfully, I outgrew it, and in my 20s treated myself to a cheap metal canopy frame. When I tell you how much joy and whimsy I have gotten out of adorning said bed... string lights, a fitted sheet stretched over top... the possibilities are endless. If my cats weren't jerks I'd probably have fake ivy and/or a wall tapestry at the head. You could make a great thrift video out of decorating your bed alone, looking forward to what you find! Also, YES to cat video please!

I already have lots of clothes but I’m looking to thrift accessories, specifically knitted shawls, wrist warmers, silk scarves, jewellery and beaded or fringe bags. I’m thinking about collecting some vintage jewellery I can upcycle into charm necklaces and bracelets. I also love lace and mesh gloves.

✨ Actually (I'm going to be that person)✨ the medieval times were very colourful. Plant dyes can produce a wide variety of colours and medieval people loved to mix match them. Even castles were fully painted inside, but with time and neglect everything vanished (very similar to what happened with greece statutes). With my need for correction fulfilled I will now vanish fully aware that the information is not relevant for people that want to dress in a medieval revival style. But for real I love that people have so much fun with it, no historical accuracy needed.

I was just telling a friend of mine how I always wanted a canopy bed a few days ago. 😂 I was so jealous of girls I knew who had them. So I totally understand that dream and someday I'd like to achieve it as well. We have a lot of similar tastes in decor and I have a goal or thrifting more this year for my decor. Rather than buying things I see online. It's always more exciting finding something you've been looking for in the wild. Especially if you've been looking for a long time I can't keep plants alive earlier. Despite wanting SO BADLY to be one of those people who has plants everywhere. A couple of my friends have a lot of them and are good with them. I haven't figured out their secrets lol. I've even bought ones described as near impossible to kill and ended up killing them. Maybe I just haven't found the right kind or the right conditions for keeping them. It's a work in progress I guess.

Having a list in mind while thrifting is a great idea. I keep a notebook in my purse with a list of things I need/want and a tape measure to check if the item will fit in my car or where I want it in my house. So sorry to hear about the house. It does mean it wasnt the place for you and your home is still out there.

A month later, they came back to the table and were willing to work with us and we got the home that we wanted at price that was fair to both of us.

Actually a lot of the Medieval clothes were brightly colored and such. Hollywood has just latched onto the relatively small period where everything was Plauge and there was no time for making things fun and been "And thats how it all /really/ was". So any bright and fun Medieval inspired stuff is actually more accurate in that regard :)

The habitat for humanity Re-Store has a lot of old entertainment systems. Sometimes the pieces are super reasonably priced (I got an old sewing machine table for $12, and a decent couch for under $100), but some of the pieces seem overpriced for what you get. I think they do tag color sales similar to Goodwill. There are two Re-Store locations in Colorado Springs, I'm not sure if Denver or any of the other towns along I-25 have any.

May I ask if you guys signed up for a year long lease/ 6 mo/month to month at the place you are renting while you look for a house? Husband and I are about to move states and start our renting before we buy too and just curious to know how you guys are approaching this.

We have a 6 month lease but we did find apartments with as low as 2 month leases. We just chose the one that had a 6 month because they were more willing to work with us on their pet policy. But if you don’t have pets or only one, sometimes you can get one even lower than 6, you just have to call around. We were even told to look into longer term vacation rentals if you don’t mind already furnished homes (if you plan on not taking furniture with you or putting your stuff in storage). Buuut if you have 2 or more pets, prepare to have to really hunt because that was our biggest hurtle. Luckily our current land lord was more flexible as long as we paid a little extra on the rent which we don’t mind since it’s temporary.
