i really want a horror movie where the protagonists want to buy a house and instead of telling them how dangerous and haunted the house is, the neighbours keep praising the house and talking about how perfect it is. this goes on until it starts to get unsettling because even people who have never seen the house or set foot inside it keeps talking about how it's the ultimate dream house and how it will drastically improve the lives of the people who are buying it.

The writing/dialogue in Dream House is SO funny. It's like they gave the actors one line, and told them to deliver the same line 5 different ways, but then they used every single line read and stitched it together as if it's somehow a cohesiveness and normal way to speak. "It's no ordinary house. It's just like any other house. This house is special. This house is pretty normal though. The thing about this house is, it's kinda normal. Anyways, that's why you shouldn't move here."

Cheney. obviously i don't like anything else about him, but his daughter is a lesbian and he was pro-gay marriage before all these democrat politicians. point being - it's not really a left vs right thing, and up until about 10 years ago, the democrats wanted nothing to do with it. i feel like a lot of younger people might not realize this.

... Are we seriously trying to apply logic and morality to the actions of a serial killer...? Like... Dude. I'm TOTALLY sure that Jack the Ripper was really a good person, after all he was killing prostitutes, and I'm sure it wasn't because they were easy prey or because he just liked killing them specifically because of his fucked-up mental state or anything like that... Obviously it was for logical moral reasons. Come on. You gotta see how stupid this is. Real life serial killers kill who they kill because of past trauma they're imprinting onto a specific demographic, because of ease, because of fucked up sexual desires, because they like how people with red hair look, because of any number of illogical personal reasons. They have a type, sure... But are you really asking for that type to make logical moral sense?

This is a case of "The movie changed every single thing about this book except the title and made it SO MUCH WORSE." I highly highly recommend the book to anyone who is curious about the initial concept being done WELL

Somewhat ironically, "The Shining" didn't get a lot of appreciation at the time because it was a pretty significant departure from the source material, at least in terms of the themes. Most of the elements about being a writer and the alcoholism were toned down or removed. Of course today it's seen as one of the best horror films ever made (and rightly so), but that wasn't the perception at the time.

@@capnmaee He hires people to do the captions for him, which is why there are occasionally typos. Either way, he's a great example of what KZbinrs SHOULD be doing. I have very great hearing but I do struggle with processing spoken language, so captions help me understand what people are saying. On one hand, I get why KZbin removed community captions (people were abusing them to promote their own channels or promote terrorism/bigotry, also sometimes people would just write really cringey shit lol). On the other hand, not many KZbinrs actually take the time to put captions on their videos. I think a great solution would be for KZbinrs to allow people to submit a caption-style script (with timestamps to avoid confusion) to them, this way the KZbinr doesn't have to do all the work. Then the KZbinr can edit any specific typos (the amount of times Drew's captioners have misspelt "Bim Bim" is insane). It's the best of both worlds, except the KZbinrs get to cherry-pick which community captions actually do their job.

My roommate and I found curse of the zodiac in a church thrift store a couple months ago and watched it. It is truly hard to even explain the absolute fever dream of a film that it is. Almost every shot is Dutch angled, underexposed, double exposed and with a green filter on it. The best part is when we looked up his filmography after and found out its not even the only film about the Zodiac killer that this director made.

okay but to be fair, "There's someone inside your house" is an adaptation of a book, where most of the kills do occur in the victims house, and a lot of the book is very different to how the film plays out. The book is waay better than the film, atleast from what i remember cause i read it like 5-6 years ago lol. But in my opinion, I was pleasantly surprised by the film. It's no masterpiece, sure, but seeing that netflix logo on the cover had my expectations reaaaal low, and at times, especially the opening kill, had some pretty decent scenes.

Like it is cool when I go out to my parents house late in the evening and I don't really ever see the bats, just see motion as they zip bye and maybe a quiet solitary flap of a wing.

I instantly recognized “there’s someone inside your house” because of the egg timer, but that was one of the only things they kept the same. It seems like some characters were the same, and they kept the fact that the climax took place in a corn maze, but so much of it was changed that it became a different story. They didn’t keep the victims the same, they changed the killer’s identity and motive, they changed the protagonist’s traumatic past, and they changed the big climax (the corn maze wasn’t on fire, for one). The original killer’s motive wasn’t “people who have secrets,” it was “people who were going to leave the small town he lives in.” The first victim was a girl who was a talented actress who would probably head off to Broadway. iirc a few of the other victims were a religious kid who was going to go on a mission trip, a girl who got into a prestigious college, the protagonist because she probably wouldn’t be here for long and was an “outsider,” a football star who was going to get scouted, and so on. The protagonist cut her friend’s hair off and let her wander into the water, where she almost drowned… it had nothing to do with fire. The killer’s identity was also known well before the climax at the corn maze. I can’t tell from this how many other things they changed, but I don’t have high expectations. No wonder the movie was so incoherent and contradictory… they changed random elements of the book to the point where it’s an entirely different story.

Whose* parents. And you shouldn't let what others think determine how you see yourself. Most people who judge others for things like that are often some of the worst people out there. They try to make themselves look less vile or hide their actual evilness by finding reasons to accuse others of being that. Yes, some addicts are bad people, but the two things don't automatically go hand in hand, as many sober people are bad people. The thing that makes someone a bad person is how they treat others. As long as you don't harm others, you're not a bad person.
@fawnieee
@fawnieee 10 ай бұрын
I try not to judge any group of people, but when my mum started working as a nurse the amount of bruises and assaults and verbal a buse she had to endure because the addicts she was trying to help turned violent when they didn't get the drugs or whatever substances they wanted. I also suffer with a chronic illness that demands me to be in hospital very frequently, and it still baffles me how well addicts are treated compared to other patients (I don't believe addicts should be mistreated btw). I wasn't allowed to leave the hospital for longer than an hour (went outside for fresh air as hospitals can be traumatic for me due to past experiences) because I would lose my bed. The addicts, however were allowed to leave for the entire day with their venflon cannula still in their vein which they were clearly using to a buse drugs, and they never lost their bed. I've seen addicts hit, scratch and kick nurses and doctors so many times and nothing is done, they're never held accountable. That is a serious failing of the system. I've seen them drink something to make them throw up so they can appear more ill, I've seen them bully and harass other patients. They're also seemingly treated very well where I'm from, not only can they get away with assault and I've never seen anyone kicked out but I've seen addicts get to lay in bed while myself and another patient with cancer had to sit in the hallway due to there being so few beds. That person took priority over someone who has cancer. Cancer. A person whose issues are self inflicted get treated better than someone suffering with something like cancer. And once there was a woman crying for about 16hours a day scrraming about how much pain she's in and that she needs morphine and she kept everyone else awake. Now, if I disturbed people like that and clearly expressed drug seeking behaviour I would be kicked out immediately, but she gets to stay and disturb all the very ill patients who need to rest. I remember crying myself to sleep and she would not stop. I begged the nurses to be moved away or to do something, but they told me I cannot move and it's up to the Drs. And ofc, as soon as th Drs visited her she was all smiles and politeness, especially when they gave her morphine. I think on morphine she was quiet for maybe an hour if the rest of us were lucky, but once her "high" started to go she went straight back to crying and screaming. It's just such entitled behaviour. My mother even told me a terrible story while she was working on the wards (usually she works in A&E), during covid the beds were packed. A mother who had just seen and experienced her newborn passing away in her arms... And she had to listen to an addict cry, threaten, assault and a buse while saying incredibly disgusting things apparently. I can't even imagine what that poor woman must have been feeling, to have lost your baby and now you have to be next to an a busive addict that shouts constant demands and hurls nasty words at anyone. I even saw an addict trying to threaten and intimidate a poor girl who was on some kind of opioid in hopes she'll give it to him. I had to tell a nurse that a nurse or staff member must be present when she takes her pain relief because of that man's behaviour. He still wasn't kicked out. I have way more stories but this comment is already long. I don't want to generalize people, and I'm aware they're sick mentally and they just need help and support. But resorting to a busing the ones they're trying to help is never acceptable.

As someone who lost their sibling a couple weeks ago (they were an addict for 15+ years and likely died from an overdose), I don't think that's silly at all. You deserve respect and love, just as much as anybody else. You're still a person. You were wronged by the system and yet you were left to pay for the consequences. That is not your fault. Just know that there are people out there who love you and who want the best for you. Please be sober for them. Be sober for yourself too. I cannot stress enough how much it hurts to get the call that someone you love has been found dead with a syringe next to them. You deserve better and so do your loved ones, whether you have loved ones now or whether you will find them in due time. Be safe, use responsibly if you ever relapse, and please always keep trying to stay sober.
