Peter Jackson created not so much a 'safe' space on those sets as a 'respectful' one. This meant that the actors felt as though it was their duty to soldier on as their work was being appreciated and had artistic merit. Of course, he also hired actors that were generally well rounded human beings, as opposed to these... 'unstable, sweet summer child-things' that were only hired because they were pretty and/or fit the checkboxes!

@@ShopFloorMonkey Peter Jackson at least back in the LOTR days came across as a director who wouldn’t make his actors do anything he wouldn’t do & actors will always respect that and almost a brotherhood is formed out of that where people will go above and beyond because the person in charge & everyone else around them is putting in 100% but also giving each other respect for doing so & it clearly worked considering they all got a LOTR tattoo each to remember their friendship & work they did together.

My favorite thing to think about it when they were filming ALIENS they were talking to the actress who played NEWT, the little girl in the movie, and they had to talk to her about a scene she was gonna do when a xeno takes her after she falls in the water. They didn't want to traumatized her and had someone on set to talk to her or to consult her if she can't handle the scene. She powered through it and thought it was fun, if I remember correctly. So a little girl had more balls and courage than these "adults" in modern movies.

Back in the day, when fencing was massively fashionable among actors, Tyrone Power, Basil Rathbone, Errol Flynn, etc had to be banned from having impromptu sword fights for fun between scenes, just because an accidental injury ran the risk of derailing production. A few years later you had guys like Harris, O'Toole, Oliver Reed, etc going out drinking, fighting, womanizing, and turning up the following morning hungover AF still ready and able to do the job. Now "I heard some hurty words. A stuntman in an orc costume growled at me. Where's my therapist? " Actors have fallen off.

More like they are now selected for different reasons than doing the best performance. There has to be a buch of female actors in the global talent pool who are IRL powerful women, physically fit (I mean, jumping on your own horse with enough dexterity that no one is afraid you'll injure yourself without using a step ladder), mentally tough and also mostly matching elven look, but instead someone cast Clark. Oh well its not just acting, same for the writers and even costume and set design. Amazon spent an egregious budget to get everything substandard, while original LotR had constrained budget and looked epic and "complete"?

I remember Liv Tyler being so happy when the 20th anniversary reunion happened and calling everyone on the set "a family", everyone had a great relationship with each other and so invested in what was happening. I look at the RoP news and cast and can't help tp think that everyone has their head up their own ass and thinks only about themselves and their personal career, not giving a shit for the source material or their colleagues and crew.
@AnarchHive
@AnarchHive 11 ай бұрын
That's another problem. They are not in for the 'project' they are in this for themselves. How come the Disa woman has so many words for how great it is, that she is, supposedly, the first black dwarf - but not once mentions her black colleague who plays a black elf? The LOTR cast and crew respected the original work and the lore and that had an unifying effect on them and spurred their motivation and passion. Apart from that I think those actors were all a different kind of breed of actors.

When filming the "The Descent" movie, the director kept the girls and the underground monster actors apart on set. They dined in different areas and never had any real-world contact during production, so their panicked reactions would seem more real. They felt like the enemy, not other actors, and scared the crap out of the girls. In Alien, Veronica Cartwright (Lambert) wasn't told (much) about the chestburster scene during dinner, and when the blood splattered onto her, she nearly fainted for real. Compare that to the Rings of Power actors. They are a goddamn joke.

These people seem to not undestand, that a horse was DOMESTICATED to serve man. They have been our companion for thousands of years, and for most of that time were an important part of our civilization. Breeds were specialized, some are literally work horses, and are happy only when working/pullling something, while other enjoy galloping etc. It is the same with dogs, centuries of specialization. Animal cruelty is bad, that is obvious, Accidents do happen. A stuntman can also die, or cripple himself during shooting, or even a random crewmember can be killed by a famous Hollywood actor etc. A horse is also a part of the team, and in modern cinema animals are treated well, because nobody wants to piss off animal lovers. It is not like someone is intentionaly harming them.

The Punisher with Thomas Jane. The fact that he didn't even flinch or even yelled in pain was something. Also the scene in the first LOTRS film in the fight between Aragorn and the main orc, where he threw the knife at Aragorn and he intercepted it by breaking it with his sword? That was a real knife and Viggo did that take on pure instinct and they kept it in the film and that showed how dedicated he was as an actor.

Sophia Nomvete can rightfully accuse Amazon of silencing her, marginalizing her and erasing her, because there is a new ROP coin collection, but there are only three characters: Guyladriel, Arondir and Elrond (? European Lore has several videos on this). Why not Disa? SN had to come up with a story after Ishmael Cruz Cordoba talked about his victimhood last week. He said he needed therapy onset because of all the racism. Morfydd Clark needed therapy because the choreographed fight scenes with stunt actors were scary. If SN's family had been threatened for real, she would've called the cops and it would've been all over media, so I'm gonna need to see some proof of her and ICC's accusations. I know from certain who individuals who have connections to the show that it was a knightmare behind the scenes. people were fired left and right, writers couldn't agree what story they wanted to tell, the show was originally about a young Aragorn, some wanted to adapt the Silmarillion but didn't have the adaption rights to the book, the Tolkien estate giving them a long list of things they could and couldn't do on the show such as referencing the movies (even though the showrunners wanted to connect ROP to the movies) writers being fired because they wanted to insert more woke elemets into the show and was met with disapproval, a Tolkien scholar being fired, Jeff Bezos allegedly visiting the set and was furious on what he saw and demanded changes to be made in the middle of shooting. All in all, this show was produced with everyone's hands tied behind their backs, not really knowing what they wanted to do and the clock was ticking, and the best they could come up with was fan fiction.

Good point re Kubrick. Just watched The Killing for the first time last night. I was like "why is the background audio mixed so high - it's so discordant." I then clicked of course that it was designed to create a heightened feeling of tension and mood. Then you notice the framing and light choices where characters fall in and out of darkness and shadow. Modern movies try this with lazy post prod filters etc. But his work is so much more natural and subtle.
