I am purchasing the previous gen e208 in march. With this new model, It is un acceptable that with the reduction in battery costs that the EV version is £12000 more than combustion, think about it, its all the same base parts minus combustion engine related parts switching out to battery, motor and charging parts. They could have reduced the cost by at least £4000. Peugeot seriously need to rethink their EV pricing, car companies are refusing to pass the reduction in production cost to the buyers.

However, if I was to buy one myself it would be £10,000 more. That’s nuts and I can see why private buyers are put off, especially as the GT model I have is £35k and that’s almost as much as the MG4 XPower. Saying that there are huge discounts on the e208 if you look for them. To Peugeot's or Stellantis' defense, having a regen that won't bring the car to a full stop and thus force you to use the actual brakes a little will prevent the brakes from rusting and becoming useless when you really need them, which is a known issue for EVs that are driven with strong regen only. I tried it this weeknd and to be honest I was a little bit underwhelmed… It did not feel quick, tight and fun like a GT in my opinion should do. The brakes need to be pushed in half the way before gripping? The sport seats were soft and plush? The steering was kinda fun and alright. The sport mode did not feel different from normal to be honest and the touchscreen, where do I begin? Confusing and messy, never found what I was looking for and struggled to exit when I clicked wrong. The cruise control? Useless and not intuitive at all. Why is it so hidden and why isn’t it on the steering wheel? So old school that it is sad actually. Since we are looking for a new ev to change our VW e-UP to get one with more range we tought it would be a nice upgrade alternative. Sat down in the 2024 version at the dealer. And the seats are the same, the brakes feels the same, the screen do not seem to be upgraded much either and the cruise control, still the old solution with a cheap lever. It is not a bad car at all, dont get me wrong but it is just so underwhelming. Perfect for getting from A to B downtown. But it stops there unfortunately:(

I think price is THE main focus for most of us when looking at new cars, not just one. They have to get these prices down to match ICE vehicles if they want to encourage people to switch.
@ysarn11 ай бұрын
This huge difference in prices between the ICE and EV versions is unacceptable. Current average cost per kWh of EV battery packs is $139 (this is the whole pack, not just the battery cells), so a 51kWh battery pack by rough calculation should be $7089. Charging £12000 extra for the electric version (and the electric motor should be cheaper than an ICE engine, as it is far less complicated and intricate to manufacture, as seen by the trend of cheaper cars having awful 3 cylinder engines to reduce costs) is just obscene and an afront to us consumers who want to buy a less polluting vehicle. All new ICE cars should have a £5000-£10000 levy applied to them if the car manufacturers are going to behave in this way.

Something we have known for a while and maybe have forgotten, When making ICE cars, manufacturers used to sell them for a pittance and then earn their profit on servicing and spares. With EVs, they are not going to be able to claw anything back after the sale. Is this how things will be then? Expensive to buy but cheap to run? Well, the Chinese, Koreans and Tesla may throw a spanner in that particular strategy. The legacy automakers have got to get much much much much more efficient at building their cars or die I think. I do like the little Peugeot though. Why can't other cars be as fun to drive?
@Neofolis11 ай бұрын
I don't think the price would be so much of an issue if it had more range and more power. I fully appreciate that city cars can generally get away with smaller range and power is less of an issue when city driving, but people are unlikely to want to pay that amount, especially when the Citroen eC-3 is going to be starting at £21,000. The Citroen won't be as nice inside or out, but it's so much cheaper that people won't care and they are unlikely to want to pay an extra £11,000 for style and quality, when they can get something like a Volvo EX-30, which offers far more for around the same price as the Peugeot.
@ysarn11 ай бұрын
I very much doubt that the Citroen eC-3 will actually be £21,000 as people are saying, my guess would be £25,000; I'm happy to be proved wrong though. As we have no EV subsidies like the French, and it will have to be right-hand drive you can't just do a straight euro to pound price conversion. Also for some reason car manufacturers think that the United Kingdom is a discerning market where buyers will only buy the premium (i.e. more expensive) varients of car models. Sometimes manufacturers will not sell the base model of each model in the UK. Some cars do not even make it to the UK, like the Dacia Spring electric and I'm not sure if the rebadged Renault Twingo electric will make it here either. We are crying out for cheap good affordable cars in the UK, but the car manufacturers do not want to supply them here. Ermm... eat words time, just looked at the Dacia website, and they say that it is coming to the UK this year.

I bet they won't lower the price until the R5 releases. Between this 208 and the Corsa, Stellantis faces almost no competition in this segment. The Zoe is too old tech and the Dolphin grew 20cm for the european version.

Thanks for all the "work" 😁. Nice review. Nice car, but at least €8.000 to high in price. We will wait for what Renault brings with the R5 E-tech. More in the €25k section and V2G functionality 👍👍

Great car but crack pricing will ultimately see more sales go to the Far East. I don't know how you can remove a complex internal combustion engine and driveline and replace it with a simple electric motor and small battery pack and end up with something costing 12K more. Either Stellantis have a massive hole in their pension scheme and are looking at this baby to top it up, or they take the public for fools. Shame, I like it a lot but not at that price. It's a no from me.

Isn’t that indicator noise from the “popcorn” trak…🤔 Manufacturers need telling about this pricing strategy for EV customers… it’s really silly..! I’ve followed EV development from the 50mile range Th!nk cars and for years they wrote how much cheaper EV’s are to produce than an ICE car..! ICE have 1000’s of precision made parts that need experts to assemble, setup and test etc … I know the manufacturers are hiding behind this battery expense thing but jeez they need to get a grip..!

Why are we still being given such ridiculous mileage figures from all the car companies, doing a proper on road range test would be much more helpful when considering spending up to £36K for such a small car 🤨🤨

I love it but a nicely specced GT is getting seriously close to Tesla money. The price is just to high.

Should have come with 65kWh battery and 200-240 HP. Why bother adding 18 HP and 2kWh to your platform? Oh, and the great thing is, you can get the old drivetrain in the new car as well...

I wouldn't be surprised if it was software tweaks for both the motor and battery.

This would be a great car at £25,000 but it's not £25,000 so will pass. On the plus side this will probably be 15000 in a couple of years, so maybe get it as a second city/local country lanes run around (if my wife ever learns to drive!)
@ISuperTed11 ай бұрын
The reality is you can buy them for £25k anyway and £15k a year old. Not a buy at that point but I wouldn’t get a new one even with a big discount.

How does it stack up with tax incentives added on? I'm genuinely curious, not because I want or could buy it, but because I feel like that's so often left out of the equation for most people whining about price (like some comment warriors on this very video) For the record, I've been driving the 2021 model from a family member, it's the most fun thing I've driven. I dislike some things like the kind of tasteless fake carbon, how the AC is a touch control (and the lag of the capacitive row, ugh) and the steering wheel corner that perfectly covers the speedometer when overtaking, but it's just so fun and zippy and leaves every other car in the dust at intersections at half throttle. I've been having way too much fun in this thing for it being a silly little city car, I just wish they wouldn't cap its speed at 150kph because it really starts to struggle with the zippiness on the Autobahn, otherwise it's perfect.

I always enjoy your reviews. 👍 I was never a fan of hatches. As soon as you said this doesn't have 1 pedal driving, its a hard pass for me. Otherwise, great review. 🙂

Some reliability issues are reported too, just in case private buyers aren't put off already by the price. In fact without the company car scam I doubt many EVs would be viable in UK

An extra 2kwh hour battery at 3 miles per kwh means another 6 miles there no way ever outside of a lab it will get 248 miles
@ISuperTed11 ай бұрын
Take it from me as a current owner, you get 4.0 per kWhr in summer and 3.3 in winter. Even if the new car has a useable battery of 50 that gives you 200 miles ish in summer and 165 in winter. 248 will never happen!

Blood daft that its so expensive, car designed for the younger market presumably, not many mid 25 yr olds i know can afford over 30k on a car, and in the middle of the financial woes we have at the moment.
