Driving is about being aware and concentration, which unfortunately not many people do. I'm a chauffeurs, minimum mileage a yr around 150000 thousand. My father said never take your mind off the road never take anything for granted and if you have quarter of an inch you can get through. I'm by no means a perfect driver but I adhere to what my father said.

I don't drive for a living but I've put on quite a few kilometers over my time on the planet and in all those many years, I have never even once felt like I was going to fall asleep at the wheel, and I mean 18+ hour trips with everybody else snoring away in the backseat. I've had one accident that was actually a freak accident and I hit no one and nothing, my truck took the damage. Your dad gave you great advice. I'm far from perfect as well, but sadly even simple common sense has gone on hiatus as we can see from the idiots causing these horrific accidents. I was a combat medic in Vietnam, Trained at the Army combat medical school , Ft. Sam Houston Texas (Conscience Objector) attached to the 1st/502nd Infantry, 101st Airborne Div. When I came home I got a job as an ambulance attendant. Later became an EMT l and EMT II. I Went to work for the Arizona Highway Patrol (DPS) and was sent to Paramedic school after the academy and a 6-month probationary period as a highway patrol officer. I think I've seen as much as the next person. I retired from police work after being severely injured while undergoing training for acceptance as a motor office. #1. 90+% Of highway fatalities could have been prevented. Simply obeying the laws of the highway will automatically shield you from death or serious injury. DWI, fatigue, unlicensed (Illegal Aliens) who obtain a vehicle and attempt to "learn as you go" with no past experience (wrong way on the freeways) driving and texting, driving while preoccupied with anger or intention..... Unsafe tires/brakes, rain, or icy conditions. RED light runners, this example, if followed will keep you and yours out of the funeral home. The worst I've ever seen? Too many! When a car full of children is hit from behind by an 18 wheeler and driven into another 18 wheeler... No bodies were recovered. This was a Toyota with five children and a mother and father. Envision a can of tomatoes being run over by a train. The vehicle was covered and taken to the impound lot of a private towing firm. The Fire department jaws of life crew. along with the medical examiner's office.... a forensic anthropologist, two opposing tow trucks to "unfold" the vehicle, and a crew from the NTSB. Red slurry mixed with plastic and clothing, the upper torsos of three children, one being a connected head and right shoulder with arm intact. people praying aloud, vomiting, fainting.... sorry for the grammar, my hands are stiff and the light here is very dim. This truck driver should’ve been paying attention to the road . Maybe my nephew would still be alive . He was a good man and a hard worker that provided for his family . Seeing his work boot on the freeway broke my heart . Myself being a truck driver for 5 years , I’ve been in situations on the freeway where I’ve prevented accidents with stalled out cars in my lane by slowing down ahead of time , because I was paying attention and driving the speed limit . I put money on it that the truck driver was speeding over 55 miles an hour with his attention diverted else where . Being a truck driver is putting safety first and keeping your head on a swivel and your eyes on the road at all times . Expecting the unexpected. Apparently, this truck driver takes safety lightly and the fact that he operates a commercial vehicle and trailer that weigh up to 80,000 pounds . I’m glad he was able to go home to his family . Us truck drivers know the caution we need to utilize for other people’s safety when we get behind the wheel . It’s our responsibility!!! The Title to this video is not the truth . It should say , “Truck Driver crashes into car .”Rest In Peace Nephew . You were an awesome man to your family .

It's so hard to have remorse for these people in California! I mean the speeding violent crashes, seem to be 3 times worse here than the rest of the U.S..

So these accidents are exclusive only to California residents??? What a stupid comment of yours!!! It's all about who and where the recording takes place. Have you seen how many of these happen in Houston ?? Florida?? Phoenix?? Lately i ve been seeing many videos such as these happening in other parts of the country, Who told you speeding is only a California issue??? Now yeah it's true tragedies like this happen say two or three times more often here in CA because of its high population but that's a different observation, but as far as the speeding, drunk or distracted driving and severity of the accidents, that's everywhere, you talk as if you are exempt from this type of situations just because you live in another state!!!

Did the semi truck driver die too?

I cannot fathom the power behind an impact that can tear a laced boot right off of your foot, that seems insane. Or maybe he changed into shoes for the drive home?

That looks like the semi hit the car . The car wouldn't crumble like that on it's own. He/she was smashed in between the tree and the semi is what it looks to me. Saw one yesterday that looked about the same and the semi hit the car and smashed around a tree, looked like a roll of foil.

Instead of putting crosses there should be billboards with pictures of the bodies of these people.

Horrible . More fast we go . Is like riding in side the egg. No proteccion at all. Thaks for the firefighters. And for sharing this . Condolences for the family of the driver.
