It's a personal choice, that also means get rid of people in your life that makes you feel little and unlovable. It's hard enough to change the way we view ourselves and trust that we are deserving of love. Those people can be hurting you unintentionally due to unhealed trauma, but it's not your job to heal them, you gotta focus on yourself. Choosing yourself is worth it, it's not selfish, it's necessary and right.

I love your message here. There are not enough voices speaking these truths. I believe they are the most fundamental of fundamental. There are more and stronger arguments to be made toward innate worth . The reason I say this is because , probably like many of us here in the comments, the “demons” we wrestle are speaking very loud and extremely cruelly.

I’ve been following you for sometime, and I get so much out of your videos. Currently I am in an ACA (Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional families) program, and this has meshed so much with the tools I’ve needed on my journey and path to recovery. Thank you so much for all that you do. I look forward to the next video 💙

I feel I don't clearly understand the meaning of "lovability" .. if I now settled myself that I'm lovable but then when I interact with people I feel they aren't interested in me or find some people don't like me.. how can I still be convinced that I'm lovable when it isn't true in reality?
@DrMaikaSteinborn5 ай бұрын
Good question! There will always be people who don’t love or even like us - but that doesn’t mean someone is fundamentally, generally unloveable. No matter what you think about yourself - some people will like you, some won’t. Best free your opinion of yourself up from situational approval from others because that’s not a steady thing we can rely on. Also, it’s important to surround yourself with people who love/like you for you 💕

I haven't decided to value myself. It feels false to think otherwise.

Dr. Maika, if someone attacks our character to evade helping us, would you count it as constructive criticism or our own illusion of our worth (blindspots of our own flaws) to stand up for ourself during such moments? I mean the grey area = limitations of others to help while our own authentic need.. When does believing in our self-worth/standing up for oneself becomes self-deception? Thank you for your videos.
@DrMaikaSteinbornАй бұрын
I once read the term "open-eyed honesty" in a book and really liked it. I think that's what's needed to avoid standing up for oneself turning into self-deception: to be 100% honest with yourself.

@DrMaikaSteinborn many thanks Dr Maika for replying to me. I am a subscriber of your channel and have watched many of your videos and KZbin shorts to learn.. Could you please let me know if you have a video which I may have missed on such a concept. Also, psychotherapist Esther Perel talks about measured honesty (balancing it with kindness and context like when to speak the truth and when not to while talking)... Could you please let me know your thoughts on such things or a video of yours that I can refer to... Many thanks

@@Snailsonthebeach Yes, I mention this I think in these videos about hidden emotions kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqrImnisgcaUms0 and hidden insecurities kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2KrYWiHaLWBp5o Also, this goes into this direction as well, it explains dysfunctional coping with a low sense of self worth (like standing up for oneself in a self deceiving way): kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5mVhGZ6iptgnpo Measured honesty sounds very good - it's about balancing authenticity and tactfullness/kindness, I agree with Esther Perel. I don't have a video on this specific topic (yet 🙂)...

Actually I felt this way before but recently something has happened that made me feel even worse. Unfortunately i don't have support from my family and I can't take antidepressants for health reasoms. Can you please recommend some self-help tools that could help ? Thanks.

Mankind is created in the image of God. This is what sets us apart from all other created things. This is why all human life has unique value. Further, people ( our essence or souls) are destined to exist for eternity.

I certainly don't need any god's approval for my existance either, thanks very much.

Doesn't the bible teach that we are all tainted by original sin? How much more unlovable can you be then to be cast out of Gods garden.
