I recently returned to fasting. 3 weeks on of fasting 36 hours twice a week. I still make family meals. I still sit at the table with them. The benefits of mental clarity, needing less sleep and of course weight loss are worth it. If you want to go 36 hours or more, I encourage you to practice extending the 24 hour fast. Fasting really is like a muscle. It gets easier the more you work it.

This is GOLD! I’m 41.. I started fasting 7 weeks ago . My period has always been on time and never irregular. I did a few longer fast and I had a regular period within a week I had another 7 day period and it was heavy!! I had no idea there was a certain way to eat within the month. This is eye opening and such great information. I’m going to rewatch this video and write all the info down! I think this should be a class taught in high school. Girls literally have no idea how the body works or their cycle. Thank you❤️❤️I’ll be sharing this info with my teenage daughters

I had the same experience. I am 46 with a 90% regular menstrual cycle. I did a 2 and half-day water fast. I got my period 5 days early. It is the brightest red and HEAVIEST bleed I have ever experienced. I am worried enough to look up Dr. Mindy for an explanation. This is not normal for me. On the other hand, I am thinking the heaviness is from all the water I drank. Maybe I can celebrate my body-depleting toxins 🤷♀️ I am like an annoying kid who always asks "why". Dr. Mindy was explaining the cycle days, I wanted to know the why in more depth. I need to read her books.

At first, I had to look up the schedule and plan for what to eat and when according to the cycle. After a few months of eating according to Dr Mindy's guidelines, I am so much more in tune with my body that I noticed it naturally craves the foods she recommends to eat at different points in the cycle. I no longer deprive myself of any food group, but I have started to eat way more healthy fats and meat (steak). It's how I repaired my gut and my skin. No bloating. I'm turning 45 this year. Fasting every day and training hard is no longer good for me.

This makes complete sense! This video is packed with amazing information. I'll be honest though. It's going to be really hard for me to eat on my scheduled fast days the week before my period. I can tend to lean towards an all or nothing mentality and think I will just give up if I don't stick to a regular schedule. But, I want my progesterone too. lol. Very interesting and informative! IF is certainly a mind set. I remember when I first started IF for 14 hours every day and then started adding in a 18-20 hour fast once or twice a week. Eating breakfast at a later time and then skipping breakfast entirely was a whole new mind set (it actually went against everything I was taught growing up). Recently I was doing an18 hour fast and then when the time came, I decided to go a bit longer and honestly, I wasn't hungry!! I did my first 21 hour fast!!! I can see a 24 hour on the horizon! Amazing!!! I need to do more research into what to eat after breaking longer fasts, as I felt a little bit frenzied! I have read Dr Mindy's Fast like a girl from cover to cover and have it in a convenient place for constant reference. Thanks, Doctors for all the great advice!!

I think the gathering portion of our ancestors eating habit is not discussed. It wasn't just meat, it was berries, grains, milk. Our agrarian patterns also matter. In other words, a mainly vegetarian diet with portion control is a good place to start (along with exercise).

Agreed. I made a similar comment regarding it not just being meat eaten by our ancestors.

This also ties in to how those first few days on our period we should be resting and abstaining from food for 24-36 hours, and then slowly replenish ourselves over our period, and then enjoy food whilst we ovulate, enjoy our increased appetites over the luteal phase feasting on the hunts and our veggie stockpiles, to build towards another extended fast at the beginning of the next cycle

day 1-10: body is producing oestrogen, oestrogen strives when insulin is down, so a fast longer day 10-15: oestrogen, testosterone, and a little progesterone are surging through. progesterone doesn't like cortisol, so no long fasts (13-15 h is optimal). switch focus to the kind of foods that help to metabolise these hormones. day 16-19: long fasts are fine (24h or longer) day 19-28(week before the period): no fasts (no longer than 13h)

I learned so much. I have done extended water fasting (21) and recently completed a 10 (had one or two coffees /teas on that one). I had no idea about planning around the cycle or even breastfeeding. My 21 was actually during extended breastfeeding (kiddo was probably 2). I was so amazed that my milk didn't dry up but I didn't realize it could have been harmful. I did get very sick on that fast. I think it helped with the temptation because I knew I wouldn't be able to taste the food anyway!

So I did the 36 hours and the physical and mental results were phenomenal. The challenge is working back up to another 36. But it definitely works. This is only a month...so I'm trying to do the 36 once a month. But it really gives you this odd burst of energy at 36 hours...its mind boggling.

Wow ! So insightful! I was doing it completely wrong! Was fasting till my cycle started then eating during my cycle due to low energy and brain fog. Starting what dr. Mindy suggested and bought the book. Excited to try this since I was actually gaining weight and frustrated !

How do you fast and not tank in the gym during your regular workout routine? I have just recently started fasting 15-16 hours at a time, but I have no energy when I go to the gym. What time should you break your fast in relation to working out? Thanks

⚠️Zeolite ruined my system. I started beef liver capsules months prior and they were so positively effective, my hair texture was returning and my nails looked like they were acrylic, then I did a zeolite detox while maintaining nutrient intake and everything good that happened was reversed. I’ve been off zeolite for four months now and my hair and nails STILL have not returned. It depleted all of the good with the bad. I heard charcoal does the same thing. So now I’m taking chlorella instead as it’s supposed to remove the bad but not the good. No adverse reactions yet but I’m in my first month so I don’t know if this will successfully help repair what zeolite decimated.

34:37 I went to my gynecologist for the first time in my life. She looked at me; I was in my late 20s, maybe 65 kg, a bit overweight for my height of 158 cm. She asked me if there were any family illnesses, and I started listing heart attack, breast cancer, Alzheimer's, diabetes, stroke... She then told me that all of those are a BIG possibility for me if I don't take my weight seriously. She really bummed me out for little to no reason. I wonder what she says to her obese patients.

Excellent interview - great questions and thorough answers, thank you _both_ so much! I can attest to progesterone hating fasting; I unwittingly stopped my period from coming at all by doing a 3.5-day fast right before my period was due. Oops...good to know! I was also wondering about how much time between refeeding categories since Dr. Mindy's video on the bone broth to meat regimen of refeeding didn't say. So, after my 3 day fast, I just ate them all in order...didn't know to wait an hour between but I lived to tell the story, LOL! Next time! I just bought "Fast Like a Girl" for kindle. Can't wait to get into even more of the nitty gritty. Blessings!!!
@allhimwithme5115 Жыл бұрын
P.S. I stopped IF immediately having learned that I'd stopped progesterone in its tracks and missed my period for doing a 3.5-day fast right before my period was supposed to come. Went to my next cycle time and got my period, yay! Now, 10 days of OMAD here I come! It's been a bitch eating all day every day to let my hormones balance out; I _love_ fasting, but fasting like a girl is much healthier, thank you!!!

Dr Mindy, a friend of mine had told me about you and your method of fasting around the menstrual cycle. My question is- I don't know where I am in that. I am 47 year old. I have been on hormonal long term birth control for the last 13 years. I have no side effects and no period, not even spotting. How should I fast? What do I need to take into account?

There is nothing you can do about it, other than start fasting for 48 hours or 72 hours. I personally am 56 and fast for days and very little weight loss. Welcome to aging. I’m going to start fasting for a week at a time and see if that will help me lose weight. It’s impossible!!

I've intermittently fasted most of my life and never knew thats what I was doing. Even as a child and certainly by junior high I was not hungry until dinner time. I'd have a lunch with me and rarely eat it. And breakfast, no way. My parents gave up on that altogether! The same has continued pretty much throughout my life with rare exceptions. I'm now late 40s and having various premenopausal issues including weight gain and the way I eat, or when or how often hasn't mattered either way. Maybe I.F. works if someone has eaten 3 meals a day their whole lives, but it hasn't made me escape the hormonal surge from hell and weight gain at all.

Wait until you pass 50. Every year over 50 is impossible to lose weight, and so many other things happen to you. It’s unreal. I do OMAD every day, and I haven’t lost one pound!! No matter what I do, no weight loss. I need to fast for 48 hours at a time. It’s extremely frustrating!!
